⛩ Giyu is the first demon slayer that Tanjiro meets. He initially attempts to kill Nezuko but changes his mind after seeing her protect an unconscious Tanjiro. He takes them both to Urokodaki in hopes that Tanjiro will master Water Breathing and follow in his footsteps as a Pillar while achieving his goal of healing Nezuko.

As a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful swordsman. He was able to easily defeat the transformed Spider Demon Father and Rui, the Fifth Lower Moon.

However, Giyu does not consider himself a true Pillar, even though he has mastered Water Breathing. He believes that one of his peers, Sabito, who died saving other demon slayers in training, was the only one capable of playing that role. He has developed an additional technique to Water Breathing, which only he knows called "Water Breathing 11th Form: Calmness."
