⛩ Maomao is the main protagonist of the series The Apothecary Diaries. After being kidnapped and sold, she ended up working as a maid (and later as a lady-in-waiting) in the Imperial Court of Li. There, she was able to put her resourcefulness, sharp deduction skills, and deep knowledge of herbs and illnesses to use in solving the mysterious problems of the Inner Court.

Maomao is a highly pragmatic and educated person who is fully aware of her position in the world as a “low-born” girl whose life “holds little value.” Although inquisitive and with a strong sense of justice, she distrusts the intrigues of the Inner Court and tries to stay out of trouble—without much success. Her curiosity, or requests from higher-ups, often get her caught up in difficult situations.
