The Apothecary Diaries Story:

In the back courtyard of the imperial palace, Mao Mao lives a quiet life as an apothecary. The daughter of a renowned apothecary from the pleasure district, she possesses extensive knowledge of medicinal herbs and poisons. Her passion for toxic substances and their effects is matched only by her expertise in crafting remedies.

One day, she is kidnapped and sold as a servant to the imperial palace. Determined to stay discreet and finish her contract without drawing attention, Mao Mao finds herself unwittingly involved in palace intrigues when she discovers that the emperor’s children are being poisoned. Unable to remain indifferent to the situation, she decides to secretly intervene.

Her quick actions soon catch the attention of Jinshi, the mysterious and charismatic court eunuch, who immediately recognizes her exceptional talent. Fascinated by her intelligence and knowledge, he appoints her as the official food taster for one of the imperial concubines. Mao Mao is then thrust into the heart of the palace’s mysteries, where she must use her apothecary skills to solve poisoned riddles, thwart conspiracies, and navigate the complex world of court politics.

Between solving criminal cases, investigating mysterious poisonings, and interacting with the enigmatic Jinshi who seems increasingly intrigued by her, Mao Mao discovers that the imperial palace hides many secrets and that her once peaceful life as an apothecary is now long gone.
