⛩ Hatsune Miku, codename CV01, was the first Japanese VOCALOID to be both developed and distributed by Crypton Future Media, Inc. She was originally released in August 2007 for the VOCALOID2 engine, and was the first member of the Character Vocal series. Her voice is provided by Japanese actress Saki Fujita

The name was chosen by combining hatsu ("first"), ne ("sound") and Miku (a personal name that shares its spelling with the word "future"). So it means "the first sound of the future". His name was based on his conception of when a sound is first uttered.

His code name "CV01" stands for "Character Voice 01."
