⛩ Guts known as "The Black Swordsman" , is a former mercenary and notable vagabond who roams the world in a constant internal struggle between pursuing his own ends and maintaining his attachments to those he holds dear.

Chapter 1, titled "The Black Knight" is the 1st episode of the manga series Berserk.

The episode begins with Guts facing a group of bandits, easily dispatching them with his massive sword, the Dragonslayer. He then heads to a tavern where he confronts a noble attempting to have him arrested for disturbing the peace. Guts quickly deals with the noble's guards and leaves the tavern, leaving the noble questioning his own power.

The episode then turns to Guts' past, showing him as a young boy raised by a band of mercenaries. He is trained in combat from an early age and quickly becomes a skilled warrior. However, he also witnesses the brutality of war and the dark side of humanity.

The episode concludes with Guts marked with a seal that attracts evil spirits. This mark is a curse that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
