⛩ Griffith is the leader of a mercenary band called the Band of the Hawk, where he wins multiple battles.
Then he meets Guts who manages to defeat the entire band, except for him. He forces Guts to join his group after a wager between him and Guts, a wager that Griffith quickly wins as it is a sword duel. Due to Guts' skills, he appoints him commander of the cavalry. After reclaiming several territories, he and the entire band are ennobled by the king. He will even capture a stronghold and be promoted to general. The Queen attempts to assassinate him, unsuccessfully, as he survives and has her killed by Guts. Later, Guts wishing to leave the brigade, is reminded that he bet his freedom on their sword fight, and he must face him again to reclaim it. A fight that Guts easily wins, due to the experience he has gained over the years, and leaves.
Griffith is too weak, both physically and mentally, and forcefully reveals the marks of the injuries he sustained during a year of torture. He will also activate the Red Behelit, leading to the'Eclipse'. To achieve his dream of creating a perfect world, he will sacrifice what he holds most dear: his band. Everyone will die except Guts and Casca who survive, but at a terrible cost: Guts loses his left arm, and Casca goes mad after being raped by Griffith's God Hand form, Femto.
Femto seems immortal, he is called an archangel by Void, and has lost all human feelings.
After these events, Guts' quest will be to avenge Griffith and the accompanying God Hands, he will live only for that, even if it means hurting people in his pursuit...
