⛩ Giyu is the first demon slayer that Tanjiro meets. He initially tries to kill Nezuko but changes his mind after seeing her protect an unconscious Tanjiro. He sends them both to Urokodaki, hoping that Tanjiro will master Water Breathing and follow his path as a Pillar, while also achieving his goal of curing Nezuko.

As a Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful swordsman. He was able to easily defeat the transformed Demon Spider Father and Rui, the Lower Moon Five.

Giyu, however, does not see himself as a true Pillar, even though he has mastered Water Breathing. He believes that one of his peers, Sabito, who died saving other demon slayers-in-training, was the only person fit for the role. He developed an additional technique to the Water Breathing, which he is the only one to know: "Water Breathing 11th Form: Dead Calm."
