⛩ Yami Yugi (also called Yami or the Nameless Pharaoh) is one of the two main protagonists of Yu-Gi-Oh! DM, along with Yugi Muto. He is the spirit of Atem, a long-buried Egyptian Pharaoh, who resides in the Millennium Puzzle. Since Yugi completed the puzzle, he shares his body with this spirit. Along with Yugi, he is considered the King of Games, the best Duelist in the world.

When Pharaoh Atem defeated Zorc the Dark 5000 years ago using the power of the Millennium Items, he sealed his soul and Zorc's in the Millennium Puzzle, using his own name as the key. The puzzle was discovered 5000 years later by Solomon Muto, who was tricked by his guide. The spirit of Pharaoh Atem appeared to save Mr. Muto, who then gave the Millennium Puzzle to his grandson Yugi. Yugi solved the Millennium Puzzle which allowed Yami Yugi to exist, now sharing the body of his partner.

Yami Yugi seems to know a few things about his past, such as that he lived in Ancient Egypt, but does not know that he was the Pharaoh at that time.
