Nearly five centuries ago in the Sengoku era, Kokushibo was a human named Michikatsu Tsugikuni, an ancient demon slayer and the older twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni.

Kokushibo is also the ancestor of Muichiro Tokito and Yuichiro Tokito and the man who turned Zenitsu Agatsuma's eldest son, Kaigaku, into a demon and joined the Twelve Demonic Moons.
