⛩ The eclipse (literally "occultation"), also known as the occultation ceremony, is a rare sacrificial ceremony that occurs once every 216 years, during which a new member of the God Hand is born.

Griffith's occultation is mentioned in a prophecy by the Holy See, which states that the appearance of a red lake when the sun "dies five times" foretells the birth of an angel, signaling the beginning of an "age of darkness". The Eclipse occurs one year after Griffith is saved by the Band of the Hawk from his crippling imprisonment in the Tower of Rebirth. On the eve of the occultation, the apostles make a pilgrimage to the predetermined location of the event, killing part of the Band of the Hawk along the way.
