A Saint Seiya figure, what is it?
A Funko Pop figure, more rarely called Toy Pop, is a small vinyl collectible doll with rough features: the main characteristics of the characters represented are a very large head, a small body, large black eyes and a simplified look. The appeal of these figures lies in a few well-chosen details: an accessory, a hairstyle or a characteristic outfit referring to a specific situation. Collectors are more and more numerous and participate to the democratization of the phenomenon among the general public.
History of the Saint Seiya anime:
The story focuses on an orphan named Seiya who was forced to go to the Sanctuary in Greece to obtain one of the "Fabrics" the bronze cloth of the constellation Pegasus, a protective armor worn by the 88 warriors of the Greek goddess Athena known as "Saints". Upon awakening his "Cosmo", the power of the Saints which is an inner spiritual essence originating from the Big Bang, Seiya quickly becomes the Pegasus Saint and returns to Japan to find his older sister.
Because his sister disappeared the same day Seiya went to the Sanctuary, Saori Kido, the granddaughter of Mitsumasa Kido (the person who sent all the orphans to train) makes an agreement with him to go and fight in a tournament called the Galaxy Wars. In this tournament, all the orphans who survived and became Bronze Saints have to fight to win the most powerful Cloth: The Golden Cloth of Sagittarius. If Seiya goes to compete and wins, Saori will begin a search for Seiya's sister. The tournament is interrupted by the vengeful Phoenix Bronze Saint, Ikki, who wants to eliminate the trail of the people who forced him to take his training. He steals pieces of the Sagittarius cloth and ends up fighting against the remaining Bronze Saints: Seiya, Shun(Ikki's brother), Shiryū and Hyōga .
After Ikki's defeat, the Bronze Saints are attacked by the Silver Saints sent by the Pope of Sanctuary to eliminate them. When they remain victorious, the Bronze Saints learn that Saori is the reincarnation of Athena and that the Pope once tried to kill her as a baby. The Sagittarius Gold Saint Aiolos saved Saori but was killed soon after and gave Saori to her adoptive grandfather, Mitsumasa Kido. Deciding to join forces with Saori, the Bronze Saints went to the Sanctuary to defeat the Pope, but upon arrival, Saori was badly wounded by a golden arrow from a Silver Saint. Believing that the Pope could heal her, the Bronze Saints set out to find her. To do so, they have to cross 12 temples, each one guarded by a Gold Saint (the most powerful saints of Athena). After several battles, Seiya reaches the Pope's temple and learns that he is the Gold Saint Gemini Saga, who in his madness killed the real Pope to get more power. With the help of the Cosmos of his friends, Seiya is able to knock out Saga and use the shield of the statue of Athena to heal Saori. Shortly after, Saga, having come to his senses, commits suicide to punish himself.
In the second story arc, the Greek god Poseidon is reincarnated in the body of Julian Solo, the heir of a rich and powerful family, who follows his will to flood the Earth. Saori goes to his temple, where Julian proposes to reduce the floods by absorbing the water inside the central pillar of the oceans. After Saori, Seiya, Hyōga, Shun, and Shiryū travel to Poseidon's underwater temple and are confronted by his subordinates, the Marines. As Seiya, Hyōga and Shiryū head to Julian, Ikki learns that the mastermind behind this war is Saga's twin, Gemini Kanon, who manipulates Poseidon. During the final battle, Poseidon's spirit awakens in Julian and manages to defeat his opponents. Saved by the Pillar Saints, Saori seals Poseidon's soul in his amphora.
The third and last arc follows how Hades, the god of the underworld, is released from his seal and resurrects the deceased Gold Saints and the Aries Pope Shion, and along with some of his 108 Specters, sends them to the Sanctuary to kill Athena. The remaining Gold Saints in Athena's service are able to overpower the enemies, but Saori then commits suicide. This act is rather intended to send her directly to the Underworld to face Hades, and the Bronze Saints follow her.Shion reveals that the true intentions of the resurrected Gold Saints were to give Saori her own cloth, and gives it to Seiya's group before dying again. In the underworld, while the saints are fighting the specters of Hades, Shun is possessed by Hades. Saori reaches Hades and expels his soul from Shun's body. Hades then takes Saori to Elysium, and the five Bronze Saints follow them. In the final battle against Hades and his two followers, Hypnos and Thanatos, the saints obtain the most powerful divine clothes and use them to help Saori defeat Hades. However, Seiya also sacrifices himself by receiving one of Hades' attacks, and the Saints return to Earth with his body.
