What is an Evangelion figure?

It's a small toy often made of PVC or resin allowing big anime fans to easily dive into the universe of the anime from the land of the rising sun and to admire his favorite characters in the smallest details. Anime figures are not reserved to a particular category of people or age. They are collected for various reasons. For high-level collectors, the figures serve as a source of inspiration to create a new story. Others buy them in large quantities to display in a window or in their original boxes as decorative gems. Older people are also concerned by the collection of anime figures. For them, accumulating these small characters in statuette is a way to cultivate the memory.

History of Neon Genesis Evangelion anime:

Neon Genesis Evangelion aka NGE tells the story of Shinji Ikari, a student recruited to pilot a giant biomechanical robot created to fight mysterious alien entities (called angels) attacking the post-cataclysm territory of Tokyo-3. Shinji's father, Gendo Ikari, is a high ranking official in a secret government program called NERV, which was created to combat these attacks. Because of his hatred for his father, Shinji has complicated feelings about being given such a huge responsibility. Gendo blackmails Shinji into piloting the robot (known as Eva) by threatening to force Rei Ayanami (another Eva pilot) who is already severely injured to fight instead of Shinji.

Rei, Shinji and a third pilot named Asuka Langley Sohryu (a bratty and arrogant half-German, half-Japanese schoolgirl who may or may not be sexually attracted to Shinji) fight a series of increasingly powerful angels in their respective Eva units until Asuka. Eva, faced with defeat in battle, slips into a catatonic depression. Shinji, whose Eva had previously gone mad, slowly discovers the truth about his colleague Rei, who appears to be a clone created by Gendo and his dark organization, to be sacrificed repeatedly in the fight against the angels. It is also hinted that Rei was created from the DNA of Shinji's mother.

In reality, Kaworu Nagisa, another Eva pilot, is brought in to replace Asuka. He fights alongside Shinji, and the two form a somewhat homoerotic relationship - until it is revealed that Kaworu is actually an angel in disguise. Kaworu breaches a secret crypto-government base in hopes of making contact with Lilith, an ancient angel that Gendo's organization had kept hidden underground. Kaworu's contact with Lilith has the potential to destroy all life on Earth. Shinji reluctantly kills Kaworu to save humanity. Now, here's where things get really complicated: it turns out that NERV was serving as a cover for an even more clandestine organization known as Seele. Seele had been studying the Angel phenomenon for a long time and, informed by ancient prophecies, had actually orchestrated an apocalypse that would transform all life on Earth into a giant soup of semi-sentient sludge - assuming that this new existence would represent a higher form of mass consciousness that transcends human limitations. Shinji is left with a choice: save humanity and individuality or allow all human life to dissolve into an amorphous collective consciousness.
