The Whitebeard's Crew was once the most powerful pirate crew in the world. It was captained by Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard, the only pirate who could compete with the King of Pirates, Gol D. Roger in battle. Rather than being under the direct command of the captain, the crew was separated into sixteen divisions, each headed by a commander.

The crew has at least forty-seven allied crews in the New World. Following the deaths of Whitebeard and Ace at Marine Ford, the remaining crew members faced the pirates of Blackbeard's crew during the War of Retaliation, where they were brutally defeated. Afterwards, Blackbeard conquered Whitebeard's territories and Marshall D. Teach usurped the late pirate's position as emperor. As a result, Whitebeard's crew lost most of its influence and strength.
After the ellipsis, it is revealed that the remaining members of the crew, as well as their allies, are being hunted by the Grand Corsair Edward Weeble and his mother Bakkin, who claim to be the biological son and lover of Whitebeard, respectively, in order to gain his fortune.
Pirate Flag
To this day, the Whitebeard flag represents a bone cross and a head in the center with a large mustache like that of Whitebeard.

The original flag in the manga was however a manji behind the skull instead of a cross. But the manji strongly resembles a swastika, which is the opposite, and which is symbolically better known in Western societies because of its association with the Nazi regime. The manji has a long history in many cultures as a religious symbol (notably symbolizing good fortune and representing for Buddhists the footprints of the Buddha, a symbol of good omen) and is distinguished from the Hakenkreuz by the direction of the angles. Despite this, in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 50 of 2006, Oda commented that from Chapter 434 onwards, he should also use the crossed version of the flag in the manga, after having discussed with the superiors of Shueisha who no longer wanted the symbol. The Jolly Roger of Whitebeard is one of the most famous pirate symbols. The anime used the cross version from the beginning to avoid confusion with a swastika.
There is also another flag consisting of a cross and a crescent, which is a simpler version often used as a tattoo, and which is seen on some crew members or allied pirates, like Marco.

It was a crew of approximately 1,600 members all divided into 16 divisions, each headed by a commander (the highest ranking members of Whitebeard's crew). In the course of their adventures, Whitebeard and his men had made many allies, 43 pirate crews to be precise; all of them are known to be dangerous pirates operating in the New World.

Whitebeard's Crew was one of the 4 most powerful pirate crews in the world, as Whitebeard was one of the 4 emperors along with Shanks, Kaido and Big Mom who ruled the New World, the second part of the Grand Line. It seems that of the 4 crews, Whitebeard's crew is the most powerful pirate crew in the world, according to popular rumors.
Whitebeard has the powers of a Demon Fruit. He has eaten the Gura Gura no Mi, making him capable of shaking anything. All he has to do is punch the air and it starts to crack, and waves spread, creating earthquakes or tsunamis. Its effects spread over several kilometers. Sengoku says of this fruit that it is capable of "destroying the whole world".
He will demonstrate his power during the battle on Marine Ford by producing a tsunami on the island to drown the Marines, but will be stopped by the intervention of Aokiji who will freeze the sea. Whitebeard seems to be immune to some of the admiral's attacks. Aokiji tried to lock him up in an ice coffin, but the vibrations he was able to produce prevented the ice from freezing him. He produced various earthquakes and knocked down two navy giants with one punch.

In addition to his fearsome fruit, Whitebeard has a weapon, a bisento, which he wields with one hand. His power is so formidable that he can split the sky in two with his "Royal Fluid". He also has an impressive physical ability despite his health problems. It took 267 sword strokes, 562 bullets and 46 cannon shots to kill him.

- Marco, 1st Division Commander: Marco, in addition to being a very experienced fighter, has mastered Haki and has eaten a Zoan-Mythical Creature type demon fruit, the rarest type of demon fruit according to Admiral Kizaru. The Whitebeard's Crew was a legendary crew even before the golden age of piracy. Their captain, Edward Newgate, was said to be the only man who could rival the former King of Pirates, Gol D. Roger. At some point in the past, Whitebeard's pirates conquered part of the New World, took many islands under their protection, and destroyed many pirate crews. Considering the immense strength of the captain, the World Government named Edward Newgate "Emperor". During this time, the crew gained many allies, including forty-seven powerful pirate crews.
