Exceeds are creatures with great similarities to cats. They have been living on a flying island above Edolas called Extalia for over 100 years. Happy, Carla and Panther Lily, are of this breed, being native to Extalia.

Importance
The Exceeds consider themselves divine rulers of human beings, guiding them according to the will of their queen. They call themselves angels in the service of their queen, whom they consider a goddess.
The humans of Edolas, generally, hold them in high esteem, as seen when Erza Knightwalker and a group of soldiers bowed to Happy and Carla upon their return (not knowing that the two were allied with the mages of Earthland at the time). Presumably, this is because they are the only beings in Edolas whose magic is located inside their bodies, just like the Earthland mages. Because of this respect, the Exceeds consider themselves angelic beings and above humans in general. Their leader is considered the God of Edolas. However, the only spell they can perform is Aera and as Byro says, the limited magic of the Exceeds cannot be compared to that of the Earthland Mages. This created conflict when they learned that Lucy Heartfilia could still use her magic in Edolas, threatening the power of the Exceeds. Therefore their queen decided that the Mage should be executed.
However, it seems that the humans don't really want to be ruled by the Exceeds as shown in the ultimate plan of the human king: ETD Code. By sending Earth Land's mages contained in lacrima in the direction of the Exceeds' city: Extalia, Faust plans to release an unlimited amount of magical energy to sustain his kingdom for eternity. And in doing so, he has declared war on the Exceed race. Apparently, the God complex has reached the Exceeds , as when Wendy Marvel and Carla try to warn them of their doom, they don't believe them, blinded by their arrogance and start throwing stones at the "mere human" and "fallen angel".
However, everything, including the queen's magical power, the god complex, and ruling humans as gods were lies invited by the ancient Exceeds to protect their race from humans. The Exceeds were a weak race that was often terrorized by humans.
In order to protect their race, the Exceeds elders spread false information that the Exceeds had many powers. This, in turn, gave them more confidence to surpass themselves, while causing even skeptical humans to fear the divine power of Queen Exceed. The Exceeds later added control of human life to their list of powers, but in truth, they never had such power, the power to kill any human being. Chagot was chosen as queen because she had the ability to predict which man would die with perfect accuracy, and the elders used her as proof of the power of the Exceeds.
After Natsu's team and the entire guild returned to Earth Land it was explained by the Elders and Chagot that there was no mission to kill the Dragon Hunters. Carla has the same fortune-telling powers as Chagot because she is his daughter. The reason why the 100 Exceed eggs were sent to Earth Land is because Chagot had a vision of Extalia crashing, so she collected 100 children from the Exceeds and borrowed Anima from the human to transport them. In order not to trigger widespread panic throughout the land, the Elders said they sent them to Earth Land to murder the Dragon Hunters. After explaining this, Exceed exception Carla, Happy, and Panther Lily's race flew off to find the other children they sent.
Mission
One hundred Exceeds eggs, including Happy and Carla, were taken from their parents and sent to Earth Land on a mission to
mission to erase the dragon slayers. When Faust began using the Anima to steal Earth Land's magical energy, Queen Chargot ordered the Exceeds on Earth Land to capture and bring the dragon slayers back to Edolas. The Dragon Slayers would then be used to create a special type of lacrima filled with Dragon Slayer Magic. Carla decides to abandon her mission to kill Wendy and brings her to Edolas not knowing that her mission had been changed to simply lure Wendy to Edolas. She becomes very distressed by the fact that she has unwittingly betrayed Wendy and fulfilled her mission. Happy is unable to remember the details of her mission, but refuses to be a puppet of the Exceed, pointing out that he and Carla are members of Fairy Tail first and Exceed second. This mission was later revealed to be a lie, because of the Queen's power, she could see the events of the Edolas arc, and as such, she saw Extalia destroyed. Thus, in order to keep the species alive, she sent 100 eggs to the earth in order to protect them, and lied about the mission to kill the Dragon Hunters to the other Exceeds.
Happy
Happy is a blue Exceed from Extalia with the appearance of a kitten. He uses Aera. Member of the Fairy Tail guild, he never leaves Natsu since he was born and who raised him with Lisanna and also Lucy since he met her. He is the son of Lucky and Mâr. Happy is in love with Carla.
Apparence
He is a small blue cat with a white belly, he is an Exceed with the ability to fly and talk. He has pink pads, white wings, and two light blue spots on his cheeks. He often carries a small green bag that contains fish and a green band around his neck. His guild tattoo is on his back, it is green and is often hidden by his bag.
Personality
He is a cat who likes to tease his friends about loving each other, saying "C'est beau l'amourrrr" while rolling the "r". He gets teased by Lucy, who steals his line, when he falls in love with Carla. He always tries to "flirt" with her by offering her fish, which she always refuses. He also sometimes makes fun of Panther Lily during thunderstorms, as he is afraid of lightning. He often says "Aye Sir!" when he agrees with something or when he is happy.
Happy also loves fish: he always keeps one in his green bag and he often eats it at Lucy's house. He hates dogs except for Plue, (Nikola du Chiot being the generic name), Lucy's spirit.

He seems to hate it when people ask him what he's doing there. He seems to hate that he is not counted when other mages are counted, and lets it be known whenever he is not counted. He can be very brave at times.
Carla
Carla is an Exceed, just like Happy and Panther Lily but also Wendy Marvel's cat, but claims to be her housekeeper. She is also the princess of Extalia, so she is the daughter of Chagot. She uses Aera. Originally a member of Cait Shelter, she later joined Fairy Tail. After the events of the Tartaros Arc, she joined Lamia Scale alongside Wendy but returned to Fairy Tail when it was reformed.
Apparence
Carla is a little white Exceed with pink ears and brown eyes, which are smaller than Happy's eyes. She also has two whiskers on each side of her face. Carla wears a pink bow near the end of her tail. Carla's usual outfit consists of a mustard yellow and pink top with a pink bow tie and a pink skirt. Carla, like other characters, seems to change outfits with each arc. When Carla uses magic, she has wings. Her guild mark is pink and, like the other Exceeds, is located on her back.
Personality
Unlike Happy who is quite carefree, Carla is very strict and serious, rarely showing her emotions. She cares about Wendy as a mother would. After joining Fairy Tail, she was initially very aloof, turning her back on everyone but Wendy. She also tries to hide Wendy's shyness and make her more sociable (which is ironic since she herself is not very sociable). She likes Darjeeling tea and does not like male cats.
When she learns about her mission as Exceed, she is shocked and sad. She shows a worried look when she thinks about it, she later revealed to know about a prophecy involving Extalia due to her ability to see the future that she inherited from her mother, Queen Chagot.
Lily
Panther Lily, or more commonly Lily, is an Exceed similar to Happy or Carla. He was one of the commanders of the royal army in Edolas and is now the "cat" of Gajil Redfox who discovered him on Edolas, and brought him back to his guild.
Apparence
His head is that of a black panther and he has a scar over his left eye. Like his fellow commanders, he wears a personal ensemble of battle armor with a long cape draped around his body, as well as a helmet vaguely similar to Leon's.
However, when he reached Earthland, he took on a form more typical of the Exceeds, looking like a bipedal black cat with round ears. He retains his facial features although they have changed a bit, he can return to his old form but only for a limited time. His guild tattoo is on his back in the same place as Happy and Carla in white color, he carries a red Musica sword that can change size at will.
Personality
He seems to be grumpy and hates noisy people. On his first appearance, he told the other commanders to calm down and according to Sugar Boy, Lily was much more upset than usual. He also seems to have reservations about the DTE (Total Destruction of Exceeds) operation, unlike the other commanders. This is probably because he doesn't want his own race to be destroyed, but he had also said that for him Extalia was not a real nation and that he had rejected it long ago. However, Lily is on good terms with Mistgun since he saved the young prince from death when he was young. He likes Koko very much. Panther Lily does not discriminate between Exceeds and humans, and treats them all as his equals unlike the other Exceeds of Edolas who consider themselves to be superior Beings. He enjoys everything as much as Gajil did against a tough opponent. He is a mature and responsible person. He is usually thoughtful and calm, but can sometimes be troubled (during storms). He is also very observant, he analyzes those who face him and does not let himself be insulted. He is quickly on good terms with Happy and Carla. He respects and appreciates Gajil with whom he trains.
According to his guild card, he loves kiwi to the point of always carrying a pack of Kiwi Juice and hates thunder (as seen in the Tenro Island arc). He also seems to have a penchant for oversized weapons, as shown by his wielding of the Bustermam' sword and his fondness for the Musica sword.
