Seiko Ayase is a major secondary character in the Dandadan manga series. A famous medium, she is also known as Santa Dodoria and Momo Ayase's grandmother.
In her role, Seiko supports Momo and her friends when they get involved in paranormal activities, especially dealing with spirits and extraterrestrials.

Appearance
Although a grandmother, Seiko appears as a slender woman in her prime. She has long white hair, typically tied in a thick bun, and wears rectangular red glasses. A chain smoker, she is almost always seen smoking cigarettes. Despite her youthful appearance, Seiko is recognized for her beauty, often described as "witch-like." As a result, many mistake her for Momo's mother and are shocked when they learn of their true relationship. Seiko’s height is no greater than her granddaughter's.
In public, Seiko wears a yellow cardigan with large buttons, revealing a crossed-strap top, a blue baseball jacket with white sleeves and a symbol on the back, hoop earrings, and sandals. At home, she opts for a white tank top, shorts, beige haramaki, and light grey wristbands with matching stirrups.
As Santa Dodoria, Seiko dons a mask, pointed gloves, and a full-body cape, leaving only her large upper bow visible.
When Momo was a child, Seiko wore the attire of a shrine maiden and tied her hair in a simple ponytail.
Personality
Seiko has a laid-back personality with very crude language. At the same time, she is altruistic and empathetic, always willing to help others in need when possible. Her best example is offering her home to people who need a place to stay. She believes in the principle of “helping each other.” Rather than accepting a generous reward from Okarun for caring for him while he was cursed by Turbo Granny, Seiko told him that the only way to repay her was to help those in need. When engaging with children, Seiko feels that, as an adult, she should bear their burdens so they can live freely. This is why she was saddened that she couldn't fulfill Jiji’s wish to help him control the Evil Eye and avoid the exorcism of the yokai. Despite her willingness to help others, Seiko is too proud to admit she needs help or burden others with her own problems, initially refusing Okarun's and Mr. Mantis Shrimp's offer to rebuild her house, which had fallen into ruin after the Evil Eye's stay.
Seiko can also seem somewhat immature, such as when she joked about Momo's crush on Okarun because he shared the name of Ken Takakura, asking her granddaughter to imitate Hiroshi Abe in exchange for a new school uniform. Despite this and her crude language, Seiko can be polite when she believes she has made a mistake affecting others’ well-being. This side of Seiko is seen as rare and unusual by those who know her well. Although she claims never to have been moved emotionally, Seiko unconsciously favors those who compliment her, especially her youth, of which she is very proud.
As a spiritual medium, Seiko follows the rules of coexistence between the living and the dead, which involves respecting the dead and sending them to the afterlife, using force if necessary if they choose to attack the living.
Seiko is passionate about cooking, believing that it should not be taken lightly, as "living begins with eating." She occasionally cooks for Momo and her friends and admires people who know how to enjoy the food she prepares, even feeling motivated to make more to satisfy their appetites. She was even willing to feed an entire restaurant of Renjaku High School students, at the cost of her entire salary. On the other hand, she dislikes picky eaters.
Although she believes in spirits, Seiko does not believe in UFOs or extraterrestrials. Even after Momo brought Mr. Mantis Shrimp as evidence, Seiko only saw him as a kappa and had little regard for the extraterrestrial spaceship after the cow abduction. She enjoys watching television, the one thing that brings her joy and laughter in life.
Background
Seiko took in her granddaughter Momo when she was young and wanted to pass down some of her medium skills. She instructed Momo to perform a daily routine of spells to help her unlock her ki. Following her grandmother’s instructions, Momo was bullied by other children every time she performed this spell in public. Momo then accused Seiko of these mistreatments, claiming she was a fraudulent medium, an accusation that deeply affected Seiko. Their relationship gradually improved after Momo apologized to Seiko.

Enhanced Human Condition: Seiko has demonstrated physical feats beyond the capabilities of an average human. During her battle against the Evil Eye, she showed the ability to generate enough physical power to knock the yokai down and create a crater in the ground with a single strike. She also demonstrated impressive speed and reflexes, dodging close-range attacks from the Evil Eye.

Tactical Intelligence: Seiko possesses great strategic sense. She devised a plan to lure Turbo Granny out of Shono City and trap her in order to exorcise both Turbo Granny and the Earth Spirit Crab. She also organized the operation to free Rin from the Onbusuman. During her confrontation with Turbo Granny, who had taken control of Okarun, Seiko anticipated the yokai's attack from its blind spot and erected a mystical barrier to protect herself. Additionally, she cleverly prepared a secondary narrow barrier to trap Turbo Granny, allowing her to relentlessly strike with her bat from various angles, each blow sending her out of the barrier and increasing the damage caused by the fire ignition.

Mediumship: Seiko is recognized for her deep understanding and knowledge of spirits, making her a highly regarded medium. Her ability to exorcise evil spirits from individuals or locations is considered exceptionally high among even the most experienced mediums. Five mediums previously employed by the Enjoji family to remove the evil eye from their home recommended Seiko to Jiji as a last resort after their failed attempts.
Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Seiko exhibits exceptional prowess in hand-to-hand combat, demonstrating flawless martial arts skills to counter a group of kung-fu jiangshi fighters and defeat them singlehandedly.
Weapon Combat Mastery: Seiko primarily uses her bat, Nessie, to subdue her enemies. She wields it with one or two hands; this approach allows her to deliver more powerful strikes, strong enough to create craters in the ground when she is grounded. In addition to this weapon, she uses her talismans and magic nails to exorcise spirits through her mystical barriers.
In situations where she doesn't have her bat or charms at hand, Seiko can improvise by using anything around her as a weapon, such as using a piece of wood as a blunt instrument to swing in place of Nessie.
Cooking: Seiko is a skilled cook, capable of preparing a variety of dishes for the family.

Strengths and Weaknesses
The primary power of the barrier lies in its ability to allow Seiko to repel evil spirits, using its fire ignition effects to reduce them to ashes. The lethality of the barrier is increased when multiple nails are placed on the ground.
Since her barriers are only effective when the god from whom she borrows power is present, Seiko is limited to exorcising evil spirits within the perimeter of the region where the god resides. In exchange for the privilege of wielding the god's power, Seiko is also required to visit temples for three days to express her gratitude. While this condition was established after Seiko borrowed the power of the Hokkaido god, it remains unclear whether these conditions vary for each god from whom she borrows power, whether they are set by Seiko or the god, or if temple visits are a standard condition tied to her borrowing of power.
Barriers
Seiko uses her mystical barriers to keep evil spirits away from her house by placing her talismans inside and on the torii. To protect herself from evil spirits, Seiko creates a protective barrier by drawing a large circle on the ground with the retractable tip of her bat, Nessie, and placing a charm nail inside it. This method also allows her to trap an evil spirit by drawing a circle around it and placing a charm nail from the outside. The outside of the circle acts as a mystical barrier that triggers the ignition of the barrier if the evil spirit crosses the circle. This makes the evil spirit vulnerable to Seiko's relentless strikes with her bat from various angles, with each blow setting the spirit ablaze. Seiko can then finish off the spirit by placing a charm nail inside the circle.
Seiko is also able to use the barrier for offensive purposes, as she prevented Turbo Granny from eating Momo by drawing a small circle on a brick and placing a charm nail in the circle, using it as a projectile weapon that ignites the barrier's flames upon contact.
Power of Words
Seiko is able to harness the power of words, referring to the ability to alter reality through words spoken with conviction.
Seiko has been shown using the Power of Words in combat to enhance her physical strength. With it, she could increase the power of her strikes and push her targets away with considerable force. She also used it to give herself the strength to lift Rin to the top of the dashi.
"Nessie" Techniques
Seiko's signature and exclusive use of the Power of Words, where she shouts "Nessie" to enhance her physical strength. She primarily uses this technique to increase the striking power of her bat (or any thin, blunt object) and push her target with great force. Seiko developed this technique during training with Momo when her granddaughter was young. She demonstrated the Power of Words by striking a punching bag, sending it flying through the air with a bat strike while shouting "Nessie," a name inspired by Momo's claim that she was the strongest creature in the world.
Equipment
Seiko's weapon of choice is a bat engraved with the inscription "Power of Nessie." Her formidable strength, combined with the power of words, allows her to strike with great force. Additionally, the bat is equipped with a retractable pencil tip, which Seiko uses for her barrier magic.

Seiko's sleep mask is identical to the one used by Sougo Okita from the manga series Gintama.
Although she doesn't associate her powers with yokai origins, an unknown individual seeking to steal yokai powers using Asuras classifies Seiko's powers as such and targets her. It remains unclear whether this is a misunderstanding or an allusion to a deeper, hidden nature of Seiko's abilities.
