Rintaro Okabe, often referred to as Okarin or Hououin Kyouma, is a self-proclaimed mad scientist and the main protagonist of the Steins;Gate series.

Appearance
Okabe has the characteristics of a gangly young man, with a square jaw and bony cheeks. He has his short black hair pulled back and has brown irises, with a small amount of stubble on his chin and cheeks.
Rintaro also wears a lab coat that reaches his shins, over a plain white T-shirt (light gray in the anime) and khaki colored pants. The chest pocket of his lab coat has a red pen sticking out, and around his pants he wears a black military-style canvas belt with a gold buckle. He has dark socks and wears green slippers inside the lab.
Ih Steins;Gate 0, he is dressed more professionally than his Steins;Gate counterpart, donning a black shirt, blazer and pants held by a black belt with a metal buckle. His hair is more neatly combed, likely to follow academic standards. He no longer wears his signature lab coat.
In the game, Okabe appeared much more "dusty". His face was pale and unshaven and he looked much more "messy" in contrast to his relatively "clean" appearance in the anime.
In the bonus episodes, when he was depicted in "model-like" clothes and poses, he was perceived as attractive. Mayuri Shiina stated that "we can't imagine Okarin without white clothes," indicating the changes in Okabe's appearance from Steins: Gate to Steins; Gate 0 .
In some dramatic CDs, he is shown in cosplay with beautiful outfits.
Personality
Okabe is a melodramatic, eccentric and rarely tsundere individual . He is a self-proclaimed mad scientist, who likes to take his "real name" "Houin Kyouma" (鳳凰院凶真, Houin Kyouma ) , and often uses it to introduce himself to others. For the most part, people don't seem to mind and instead address him by his real name or "Okarin" (his nickname), much to his chagrin. This makes him slightly hypocritical as he calls Kurisu a number of names that irritate him to varying degrees. On the other hand, some people like his nicknames such as Luka Urushibara with the name "Lukako" (る か こ, Rukako ), which affectionately alludes to his feminine nature.
Okabe was also socially incompetent, to the point that he saw absolutely nothing wrong with yelling in Kurisu's face for calling her "Okabe" instead of "Hououin Kyouma" and couldn't understand why she was crying afterwards, even though she explained why sarcastically. Her social skills were so poor, in fact, that Kurisu considers the child Mayuri normal in comparison. However, he doesn't hesitate to lend a hand to people he has never met, as his first encounter with Luka shows. Although very intelligent, Okabe is easily fooled; when Kurisu sent him a D-Mail saying he was an airhead, he bought the claim that it was a compliment, only later realizing that it essentially meant that his head was full of air.
Okabe likes to pose as an agent working against some "Organization" that he believes is always after him, as he thinks this kind of image gives him a cool, mysterious aura, though this seems to disappear as the story progresses, with SERN presumably replacing the villainous image of "the Organization." In the case of Steins;Gate 0, it's STRATFOR, DURPA and Russian intelligence. He generally comes across as delusional and paranoid, displaying eccentric mannerisms such as talking on the phone and engaging in maniacal laughter; he seemed to have a severe case of Chuunibyou at the beginning of the series, but that's just one side of his character. There are several occasions where the anime displays what is going on in his mind,
It is later revealed that his "mad scientist" persona is largely a facade he wears in order to make life interesting for his dear childhood friend Mayuri and he tends to abandon it if the situation becomes serious. Later, he completely abandons his Chuunibyou facade after witnessing Mayuri's multiple deaths, revealing a serious side of himself that he didn't show during the first half of the series as he works hard to undo all the previous D-mails he made - all in order to get the IBN 5100 and prevent Mayuri's death. After going through dozens of time jumps, he becomes rather cynical, depressed and frantic. He develops a guilt complex, believing himself to be responsible for everything that happens and frequently blaming himself whenever something goes wrong, even when he had no control over it or could not have seen it coming. One example is when he blamed himself for preventing Suzuha from leaving during the night of the storm, which resulted in her losing her memory and failing to find IBN 5100, despite Suzuha's insistence that the whole ordeal was his fault for not going straight. in 1975 and stopping instead in 2010 to find her father.
After Kurisu's death in Steins; Gate 0, he becomes increasingly miserable, to the point of suffering panic attacks due to references to Makise Kurisu and having to actively consume anti-anxiety medication. Okabe had gradually wallowed in his own misery with his guilt complex weighing on him, refusing to make any more time jumps even with Suzuha's knowledge of the inevitable occurrence of World War III in the Beta Attraction Field if he stayed away from acting. He had also abandoned the identity of Hououin Kyouma in its entirety, choosing to live as a normal university student, much to the discomfort within his circle of friends. As the series progresses, he regains the strong desire to see the future of Lab Mems through to the end and returns to his former conduct;
In Suzuha's ending (from the visual novel), Okabe's personality becomes extremely distorted and twisted, as she is forced to choose between saving Suzuha or Mayuri. Despite this, he soon begins to act like his old self again after being confronted by Suzuha. He seemed to develop feelings for Kurisu, as well as Faris, Luka, and Mayuri, though these are determined by the route chosen in the visual novel. However, he openly displays his affections for Kurisu towards the end of the story, regardless of the route chosen.
In the film Load Region of Déjà vu, Okabe has a strong distrust of time travel in general. After his experiences, he believes that no one can alter the past without unforeseen consequences and would rather be completely erased from the world's line than let Kurisu use time travel to try to save him.
Background
Rintaro leads an average life with his small group of friends until he creates PhoneWave (name subject to change) with Itaru. His parents run a family business and he has already received an eggplant for Christmas.
He is childhood friends with Mayuri Shiina . After the death of his grandmother, Mayrui went into a depression and, fearing that she would go away (commit suicide), Rintaro embraced her and said the first thing that came to his mind, which was the ramblings of a mad scientist he had seen on TV. Proclaiming himself a mad scientist, he said that Mayuri was his hostage and as such he could not leave him. Mayuri agreed and this incident gave birth to his character "Hououin Kyouma".
In some lines of the beta world, as a child, he met a woman at the train station who taught him a song.
Rintaro went to the same high school as Itaru Hashida, although according to Itaru, they only became friends in their last year. The two, along with Mayuri, would establish the Future Gadget Lab, a small research institution located above Yugo Tennouji's CRT store. This is an area where he and his fellow Lab Mems create "Future Gadgets for the good of humanity". He calls himself Lab Mem 001 (the first to join the lab).
At the beginning of the story, He and Itaru Hashida are both enrolled at Tokyo Denki University as engineering students.

The death of Kurisu Makise
In order to collect extra units for his university course, Rintaro attends a seminar taught by Shouichi Makise on the fundamental theory behind the creation of a time machine. He arrives early, and upon entering the lecture hall, the building is apparently shaken by an earthquake. He runs upstairs and finds a satellite on the roof of the Akihabara radio tower. As Shouichi starts his seminar, Rintaro, a strong supporter of time machines, recognizes the basic material on which the professor is speaking and gives a concussion, accusing the professor of plagiarizing the idea of John Titor , who had spoken about this theory 10 years before. He is removed from the seminar and meets Makise Kurisu for the first time, although she insists that she saw him only 15 minutes ago.
Then Rintaro tells Mayuri about her Metal Upa, which she lost before she heard a scream coming from upstairs. Rintaro rushes to the source of the sound to investigate and finds the body of Kurisu Makise in a pool of blood.
Rintaro is shaken by the incident and he contacts his friend Itaru about it by SMS. Immediately after sending the text message, the people in the street all disappear and the satellite he saw earlier seems to have crashed on the roof of the radio tower.
He questions Mayuri about the apparent disappearance of the pedestrians, who seems not to have noticed. He later discovers that Itaru received the message, although 5 days earlier, and that it is divided into 3 messages, and that Shouichi Makise's conference was cancelled.
While attending a conference for credits that afternoon, he met a perfectly unharmed Kurisu Makise . After that, he was in shock, frequently touching Kurisu, who then accused him of sexually harassing her. It was then that he realized that it was the real Kurisu.
John Titor and Future Gadget #8
Although he is certain that the events he experienced did happen, he rechecks the events on the Internet, finding confirmation of what Itaru told him. He soon comes across John Titor, a time-traveling character famous for his discussions about the world in 2036, and this piqued his interest in learning more about John Titor and his ideas about time travel.
Shortly after agreeing to let Kurisu join his lab (due to his curiosity about the experiment Okabe and Daru are doing with the PhoneWave (name subject to change)), Okabe soon realizes that the PhoneWave (name subject to change) is actually a time machine. With the help of Kurisu, Okabe starts to experiment with the PhoneWave (name subject to change) using D-Mails (short for DeLorean Mail. This could be a reference to the famous movie series "Back to the Future").
SERN and the IBN 5100
After running into Moeka, a shy woman who only communicates by phone on the street of Akihabara, Okabe discovers the IBN 5100, an ancient and extremely rare PC that may be in Akihabara. Okabe also has Daru hack SERN to find information about the time machine. To his surprise, SERN has been researching the time machine and has already managed to make one. However, SERN has done 14 experiments on humans, called the "Z program" and all the humans who were experimented on have already died and turned into a frost-like state and were found in different places in the past. Daru found an unknown database of SERN that even Daru can't decipher. Okabe decided to ask Titor for the code and found out that he needed the IBN 5100 to access SERN's secrets. Okabe starts looking for it and finds out that Faris' father once had an IBN 5100 and dedicated it to a shrine. He finally finds it at the Yagabashi shrine and brings it back to the lab.
D-mails and Steiner reading
Okabe begins experimenting with the PhoneWave (name subject to change) by trying to send text messages (which the group agrees to call D-mails) to the past. He learns that the experiments only work at a specific time of day (10am to 6pm). Furthermore, if the D-mails can really affect the past, then the present will be altered and only Okabe can notice the change, because the memories of the other members have also been altered to fit the new timeline. He exchanges messages with John Titor and learns about world lines and attraction fields, and also that he has a special ability, which he can keep memories of before the world line changes. He decides to call this ability Reading Steiner.
Attack of the Rounders
After sending several D-mails, Okabe radically changed the worldline (Faris' D-Mail literally reshaped Akihabara, Luka's mail changes it from a boy to a girl. Also, the IBN 5100 can't be found because of the worldline change). Meanwhile, Kurisu is also working on the Time Leap machine, a modified version of the PhoneWave (name subject to change) which can send the user's memory into the past. In addition, Okabe received threatening e-mails from an unknown person, accompanied by horrifying images. On the night of the day, Kurisu completes the time machine, Mayuri's watch stops, much to her surprise. Soon, a group led by Moeka attacks the laboratory, killing Mayuri in the process. With the help of Suzuha Amane, Okabe was able to use the time machine to travel back in time and save Mayuri. However, no matter how many times he tried, the result does not change: Mayuri always dies. That's when Okabe starts to be terrified of Mayuri's death every time he sees Mayuri's watch stop. Falling into despair, Okabe confronts Kurisu for help. Kurisu advises Okabe to ask Suzuha for an explanation.
John Titor and the time machine
While confronting Suzuha after jumping through time, Rintaro now learns that Suzuha is, in fact, John Titor. Suzuha travels from the year 2036 to 1975 to obtain the NBI 5100, but stops halfway in 2010 to find her father, Barrel Titor, who is currently in Akihabara. Rintaro also learns more about the World Line and Attractor Field and the future of this Alpha World Line (SERN will rule the world with a dystopia, Rintaro becomes a terrorist leader, Kurisu is the mother of the time machine that allows SERN to rule the world), and also that he cannot save Mayuri due to the convergence of the World Line. In order to save Mayuri, he has to switch to another Attractor field and to do that, he needs the IBN 5100 to delete the first D-mail he ever sent from SERN's database. Rintaro and the other Lab Mems (consisting of Kurisu, Mayuri and Daru) agree to help Suzuha to repair the time machine (the machine was previously considered a satellite housed on the roof of Radio Kaikan), which is currently broken down due to rain. a few days before, as well as to find Suzuha's father. Daru manages to repair the time machine, and Mayuri discovers that Suzuha's father is, in fact, Daru (although all the Lab Mems seem to be skeptical about this, Mayuri was able to show undeniable evidence, proving that Daru is Suzuha's father). Suzuha was very happy, she said goodbye to the Lab Mems and went back to 1975 to get the IBN 5100 to give to Rintaro (However, since the time machine was incomplete, it can only go back to the past, so if she manages to get the IBN 5100, she will have to wait 35 years to give it to Rintaro). Back to the lab, Rintaro received a letter from Suzuha was very happy, she said goodbye to the Lab Mems and went back to 1975 to get the IBN 5100 to give it to Rintaro (However, as the time machine was incomplete, it can only go back in the past, so if she manages to get the IBN 5100, she will have to wait 35 years to give it to Rintaro). Back at the lab, Rintaro receives a letter from Mr. Braun, saying that it is a letter from an old friend of his. Realizing that it is a letter from Suzuha, Rintaro collapses while reading it. The repairs to the time machine were incomplete, causing Suzuha to suffer from amnesia and lose all her memories when she returned to 1975. By the time she remembered her goal of traveling to 1975, it was too late to secure the IBN 5100. Suzuha fell into despair. and committed suicide. Rintaro now realizes that he can't get the IBN 5100 in this world line, so he sends another D-mail to prevent himself from the past to prevent Suzuha from leaving Akihabara before the night of rain so that Suzuha won't lose her memories by leaving in 1975. Of course, this would make the other Lab Mems lose their memories of the time they had shared with Suzuha, except for Rintaro with his Reading Steiner.
In the end of Suzuha, Rintaro is unable to decide whether he should save Suzuha or Mayuri. As a result, he continues to use the time machine to go back in time and the events of World Line Divergence 0.337187% happen over and over again. This allows him to relive the last two days Suzuha spent with the group, but at the cost of no progress. However, after perhaps hundreds or even thousands of loops, Suzuha realizes that Rintaro is jumping through time and confronts him. After discovering the truth about her suicide, she asks him to accompany her to 1975 to make sure she doesn't hang herself and get an IBN 5100. Rintaro's emotions start to come back to life after that. The two enter the time machine and travel to the past, and what happens to them remains open.
Repairing Akihabara
After sending the D-mail, Rintaro still hasn't escaped from the Alpha Attractor Field, but because he changed the line of the world, the Rounders' attack and Mayuri's death are delayed by a day. after talking with Kurisu, the two come to the conclusion that cancelling all the e-mails in the reverse order of their sending can save Mayuri. He starts looking for Faris and, discovering that she is in a Rai-Net tournament, he goes looking for her. however, when he finds her, she is depressed that another player has beaten her by cheating. She convinces Okabe to use the Time Leap Machine to go back and give her sunglasses and earplugs before the Rai-Net championship to protect herself, claiming that if he does this, she will remember what D-Mail she sent.
Okabe's time goes back to before the Rai-Net Championship and manages to get Faris to agree to the sunglasses and earplugs, although she is very picky. Faris only uses the earplugs but not the sunglasses, so Okabe has to find the viral attacker in the tournament audience who shines a laser in Faris' eyes and put a stop to it. Faris wins the tournament and talks to Okabe about how she was probably lying about being about to remember the D-Mail she would send, as well as explaining her ESPer "Cheshire Break" ability to tell if other people are lying, say how they feel and predict their behavior.
4 ℃ overhear this and ask his gang, the Viral Attackers, to chase Faris and Okabe, who end up hiding in the same building where Faris May Queen Nyan-nyan room cafe exists in other lines of the world. While hiding there, Faris remembers everything, not just May Queen Nyan-nyan, but everything that happened in other lines of the world, including the D-Mail she sent. After some viral attackers make their way inside and attack, Faris and Okabe manage to escape outside, only to be surrounded by viral attackers and have 4 ℃ reappear, and 4 ℃ beat Okabe bloody. Yukitaka Akiha , Farisse's father presents in a limousine, diving almost directly into the crowd of viral attackers, sending the viral attackers scattering in fear, but actually avoids hitting anyone with the car, and he saves Okabe and Faris.
After that, Yukitaka Akiha takes Okabe and Faris back to the apartment Faris and her father share, where Okabe spends the night, and Faris tells Okabe how her D-Mail saved her father's life and how if she defeats it, her father will be dead. . But Faris also gives Okabe permission to undo the D-Mail and promises to help her, as it is necessary to save the life of Faris' friend, Mayuri Shiina. The next day, Okabe decides whether or not to send the D-Mail to cancel Faris' D-Mail.
Isolated Never Seen
In the end of Faris, Okabe finds himself unable to send the D-mail, not wanting to separate Faris from her father. In desperation, he and Faris create a D-mail intended to save both Mayuri and Yukitaka. When the D-mail is sent, Rintaro finds himself in a new line of the world.
Okabe goes to check the divergence counter at Yugo's, seeing that it is -.275349ω. There, he meets Nae, but she doesn't remember him. He then goes to the lab, finding it vacant with the PhoneWave nowhere to be found. After that, he heads to May Queen NyanNyan, where he discovers that Mayuri doesn't remember him, Daru and Kurisu. He also learns that the Future Gadget Laboratory does not exist. Inside, he also finds Daru, only to learn that Daru only knows him as "Houoin Kyouma", his Rai-Net handle. Before leaving, Okabe tells Faris to watch over Mayuri and make sure she doesn't die. Faris finally returns home, telling Okabe that she is alive and well. The next day, the RaiNet tournament starts,
Delete Luka's D-Mail
After reversing Faris' D-mail, he checks her and confirms that things are back to normal.
Later, Okabe confronts Luka at the shrine and tries to explain everything to her, only for her to get angry when Okabe said he was a boy and Okabe leaves after seeing this. Okabe is later confronted with Kurisu and he explains the situation to her.
Luka then reluctantly agrees to allow Okabe to cancel the email on the condition that he agrees to go out with her. Okabe agrees and gets dating advice from his friends. When the date comes, it goes awkwardly because Okabe follows the advice and doesn't warn himself. He comes to see her at the shrine and apologizes for missing the date, and the two make out. Luka then spends the rest of the day training with the Samidare sword with Rintaro; both of them feeling really comfortable in each other's company. Luka then remembers what they meant, Okabe having saved Luka from street harassment. However, this memory is from a world lineage where she was born male, and she reveals to Rintaro that she was in love with him since that first meeting that she shouldn't be able to remember, and that she will always love him no matter what, female or not. Rintaro smiles and sends the D-mail, bringing Luka back to being a man.
Link of corruption and rebirth
In the end of Luka, Okabe decides not to send the D-mail that would allow Luka to become a boy again. He convinces himself that Mayuri will still die no matter what he does, so he can't sacrifice Luka's happiness for something unnecessary. After Mayuri's death, Okabe stands in the laboratory, refusing to leave. After a few days, Kurisu manages to convince him to continue his relationship with Luka.
Realizing the devastation she has caused, Luka feels guilty for Mayuri's death. Remembering that Mayuri wanted Luka to cosplay at the next convention, Luka, with Okabe's help, goes back in time to give Mayuri at least a little happiness. Rintaro jumps to words again and Luka explains that the plan was a success, showing him pictures of Luka, Mayuri and Okabe at the convention together, though Mayuri's fate is ultimately unchanged.
The scene ends with Luka producing the photos they took with Mayuri at the convention and with Rintaro at peace now that he has given Mayuri happiness. After the credits roll, it is shown that Rintaro has fathered a child with Luka.
Recovery of NBI 5100
With the little information he knows about her, Rintaro is able to find Moeka's apartment, but he also discovers that Moeka committed suicide. Rintaro rushes to the laboratory to jump back in time to when Moeka was still alive, but before he can do so, he realizes that someone is using the time machine (Nae). Unable to find out who it is, Rintaro decides to forget about it and jump back in time. He went to Moeka's apartment to find out that she is in a kind of trauma because her boss, FB, seems to have abandoned her. After some difficulties, Rintaro finally takes Moeka's phone, and with the help of Kurisu (who is in the lab at the time), he sends an e-mail to cancel Moeka's D-mail. However, nothing happens as he realizes that the world line has not changed (his Reading Steiner has not activated) while Moeka is constantly knocking on the door. Soon, he realizes that Moeka has lied to him about the contents of the D-mail. The real content concerns the location of IBN 5100. Once again, he sends a D-mail to cancel his D-mail, but nothing happens because the Moeka from the past seemed to ignore the mail and was still looking for IBN. 5100. he then confronted Moeka, had another fight with her and was forced to kiss Moeka to shut her up. He then gives Moeka back her phone, and offers to help him find FB,
After a stakeout in front of a locker (in which Moeka hid the IBN 5100), Rintaro and Moeka followed many people who took the IBN 5100 and spent an all-nighter to find FB, who, to their surprise, turned out to be Mr. Braun. After hearing Rintaro's story about Amane Suzuha, Mr. Braun uses his gun to kill himself. Rintaro then grabs his phone and runs out of the house. Rintaro is noticed by Kurisu (who looked outside the house) that after hearing the gunshot, someone in the house jumped out the window and ran away. Back at Moeka's apartment, Rintaro decides to send the D-mail, but before he can do so, Nae appears and kills Moeka with a knife (in the anime Moeka was shot by FB and then died in Okabe's arms, then FB kills himself) and tells Rintaro that she would meet him in 15 years. Shocked by the new revelation, Rintaro postpones sending his D-mail to the time jump to find out why Nae did it (this is optional, the player can choose to send the D-mail instead of time jumping, the result will not be different, just that Rintaro will not know anything about why Nae killed Moeka). This time, Rintaro is waiting outside the house (FB will definitely die because of the convergence of the world line). After the shot, Nae jumps out of the window, Rintaro chases her and eventually catches her. He now learns that it is not the Nae he knows but in fact the Nae of 15 years in the future, who will actually become a Rounder. She is the one who captures Rintaro and tortures him to death, then takes the time machine to travel to the past to get revenge on Moeka and Rintaro (although she can't kill Rintaro because that would cause a paradox). Upon learning the truth, Okabe finally decides to send his D-mail and returns to the world line in which he got the IBN 5100.
Struggle and Confession
Rintaro, after cancelling Moeka's D-mail, notices that if he cracks SERN's database and deletes the first D-mail using the IBN 5100, he will end up in a world where Kurisu died in Radio Kaikan. So he refuses to hack SERN to delete the first D-mail. He struggles to find a way to save both Mayuri and Kurisu, but everything is in vain. When Kurisu asks him why he didn't decipher the first D-mail, he tells her the truth about his death. Kurisu doesn't care if she dies and urges him to save Mayuri. Rintaro then confesses his love for Kurisu. She kisses Rintaro (and he asks her for another one after the first kiss). When Kurisu is about to board the plane to return to America, Okabe gives her the Future Gadgjet Lab #2. Rintaro finally decides to sacrifice Kurisu and return to the original Attractor field where he was.
Starry sky
In the end of Mayuri, Rintaro realized that he harbored romantic feelings for Mayuri, not for Kurisu. Okabe and Kurisu decide to return to the beta world line in which Kurisu's murder continues as planned, but Mayuri noticed that something strange was happening between Kurisu and Okabe, so she decided to ask Okabe. After learning about Okabe's journey to save her, the happiness of all the people he sacrificed and Okabe's decisions, Mayuri cries and blames herself, running to see Kurisu. When Mayuri met her, Kurisu was packing her things to return to America. She runs and hugs her, saying she doesn't want Kurisu to disappear, only to hear that it was Kurisu's decision all along and she wants Mayuri to be happy. saying Okabe loves her, she breaks up. After hacking SERN's database with the IBN computer, a 1% discrepancy is reached. Okabe swears to remember his memories of Kurisu and spends his time with Mayuri in love. During a date with Mayuri, she says that she had a very important friend whom she can't remember who and that sometimes she hears a voice, a voice that tells her to "find happiness". Mayuri holds Okabe's hand (does 'Stardust Handshake') and wonders if this important friend is the reason why she is with Okabe right now, saying that she wants to say thank you.
The failure of Rintato
Now in the original world line, still reeling from the devastation after the loss of Kurisu, Rintaro receives a phone call from Amane Suzuha, who offers to meet him on the roof of Radio Kaikan. When Rintaro arrives, Suzuha tells him that they had to prevent Kurisu's death, as it somehow stirred up World War III. However, when they try to do so, the operation ends in disaster when Rintaro tries to stab the culprit with a knife but stabs Kurisu instead. The force was so strong that the knife pierced the skin and penetrated the flesh, right down to the bone. Okabe could feel it. He then found himself with a dying Kurisu in his hands. Kurisu then apologized for letting Okabe get involved in his murder, saying "I'm sorry I dragged a stranger like you into this." before finally collapsing on top of him,
After returning to their time, Rintaro was devastated, repeatedly saying that "I killed Kurisu" and wanted to take an eternal sleep.
Steins;Gate 0
Getting it wrong
Surprisingly, Mayuri slaps himself. He then wakes up from his delusions and receives a message from himself in the future, telling him that the way to save Kurisu without changing the events that led him to develop a time machine is to deceive his past by making him believe that Kurisu had been killed and allowing Mayuri's Metal Upa will not be detected by the airport metal detector and let the files stolen by Shouichi Makise burn in the accident, thus reaching the final divergence value higher than 1 (1.048596), which he nicknamed the 'Steins Porte'. His Future nicknamed this mission "Operation Skuld". Rintaro planned to do this by knocking him out with a taser and using the fake blood in Future Gadget #6 (the lightsaber from Spark Wars).
When Rintaro returns to the past, he first got the Metal Upa before his past. Mayuri will then receive an ordinary green Upa instead, lose it and have it picked up by Kurisu Makise . Rintaro soon realizes that the fake blood he brought has dried up. Without much choice, Rintaro risks his own life by letting himself be stabbed by Shouichi Makise, then using his own blood to recreate the scene where he saw Kurisu lying unconscious on a pool of blood, in order to save her. Kurisu witnessed this and called for help. But Okabe then tases her and leaves her lying in the pool of her blood, before saying "goodbye" to Kurisu and talking about her past (the next 3 weeks will only be 3 weeks for others, but, for you, it was the time you spent with Kurisu). Suzuha calls Okarin stupid for doing this, as he risked dying from his wounds and exposing his past, but Okabe retorts, stating that the mission was successful, and that he fulfilled all the objectives: creating a fake crime scene with Kurisu bleeding, and deceiving his past self. Rintaro returns to his time.
The epilogue
He was hospitalized for about a month due to his injury and around September 2010, he was discharged from the hospital, getting 8 LabMem badges that had just been completed. Rintaro visited Yanabayashi Shrine to name Luka Urushibara as LabMem # 006 and gave him the LabMem badge, then visited Mayqueen to name Faris as LabMem # 007 and also gave him the LabMem badge.
As he was about to go up to the lab, he discovers that Moeka works part-time in the CRT workshop. He then gives her the LabMem badge and names her LabMem #005.
In the visual novel, he goes on and shows Rintaro going to the lab and finds Mayuri and Itaru inside, and gives them their respective LabMem badges, while in the anime, Mayuri was not there since she was looking for Rintaro who was out of the hospital. He then puts another LabMem badge in a box and tells Itaru that the 8th member will appear 7 years later, and for Itaru, it was an inevitable destiny.
Rintaro goes back to the streets of Akihabara, with 2 LabMem badges. One is for himself, LabMem #001, and the other is for LabMem #004, Kurisu. Okabe thinks that it will never reach its owner since Kurisu in this line of the world has no memory of the 3 weeks she spent with Rintaro in the line of the Alpha world.
A little saddened by the realization, he walks through a crowd of Akihabara, when someone familiar passes by him. He stops and turns around, not really believing what he had seen. The person turns out to be Kurisu. She smiles gratefully and remarks that she was afraid she would never be able to see him again and that she would be forever unable to thank him for saving her life.
Rintaro who is getting too emotional puts up his Chuunibyou number and takes out his phone. He says on the phone that he doesn't know why he could meet her again and declares that he would accept the task of protecting her on behalf of Steins;Gate.
In a slip of the tongue, he calls Kurisu by the nickname he has used in other world lines, Christina. Kurisu responds by stating that she is not Christina, nor is she his assistant. Both were surprised and Kurisu reveals that she had just acted on instinct. Okabe thinks that the Kurisu of this world lineage should not have known the nicknames he gave her in other world lineages. But then he realizes that Reading Steiner exists in every human being. All they need is a little push and they will remember it. Rintaro then welcomes her back and re-names her his assistant before handing her the LabMem badge he owned. Rintaro continued to live in this Steins;Gate world lineage with Kurisu and Mayuri safe and sound.
Journey to America (Anime only)
Eight months later, Future Lab Mems, except for Moeka, go on a trip to America to visit Kurisu and watch Faris compete in a Rai-Net tournament. However, after seeing a woman who looks like Suzuha, in a moment of recklessness, Okabe follows her to a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. After learning that she was not Suzuha, he is unable to make the return trip with only a dead battery phone and 67 cents. Later, Kurisu came to his rescue, only to be stuck in the same situation as him due to the car running out of fuel. Stuck in the middle of a deserted highway with no one in sight, Okabe then confesses his love to Kurisu. Standing up, Kurisu asks Okabe to close his eyes as with the other line of the world, finally completing the choice of Steins;Gate.
Near the end of Steins Gate (Anime only)
Kurisu visits Japan and meets with the Future Gadget Lab. Throughout the day, Rintaro receives flashes of her death on other lines in the world, but is unable to explain them. That night, they throw a party for her where Okabe apparently disappears for a while, with only Kurisu noticing. Kurisu gets drunk later and confronts Okabe for not contacting her after what happened in America.
The next day, Okabe and Kurisu have a discussion at the laundromat where Okabe disappears and Kurisu finds herself unable to remember him at all. After Kurisu remembers him from his lab coat and confronts Suzuha Rintaro reappears, telling him not to use time travel even if it means he ceases to exist. Kurisu refuses and ends up going back in time and giving a young Okabe the idea of Hououin Kyouma before embracing him, cementing his place in the world line. The film ends with Kurisu returning to the present and her and Okabe joking about taking her first kiss.
The kidnapping of Nae Tennouji
In December in Akihabara, Rintaro Okabe is suffering from PTSD due to the events of the summer when he receives a letter from Kurisu Makise on December 14, his birthday. However, things start to go wrong when Nae Tennouji suddenly disappears on Christmas.
The story begins with Okabe playing a chuunibyou role because things are going too well in this Worldline (which the others are not aware of or don't believe in). He receives an expected email from Kurisu and quickly opens his inbox, but to his disappointment, it's spam.
Hashida mentions how "crazy" he is that Okabe is a "Riajuu" compared to himself; an otaku. Mr. Braun bursts in to request that the group of 3 watch his daughter while he and Moeka go do "business" in another area. During their supervision of Nae, they constantly try to cheer her up or get her excited, though none of it works very well. Urushibara joins their group which Nae quickly becomes attached to and Okabe and others go for a walk in Akibara.
Okabe begins to suffer from PTSD from the moment he was attacked by Nae's vengeful counterpart in 2025 (this did not happen in the anime.) After she looked at him with a blank expression before looking away, believing she was frowning. Deducing that she was thinking something sinister, he wrapped his scarf around him. They encountered a mini-festival where Okabe, Mayuri and Ruka took pictures before hearing Nae's minor screams after being hit by a "suspicious ugly guy." Okabe goes to confront the man before an earlier Santa Claus blocks his path. Though it turns out; Santa is on Okabe's side and stops the man.
The group meets Faris later in the day and asks her if there are any interesting places near the cafe, she mentions a play center and they go there. Hashida challenges Nae to a match in any game she wants, surprisingly; she chooses a fighting game. Okabe begins to examine Nae on his one-handed grip of the yen he threw at her to test whether what he was seeing was real or not. Hashida chooses a large figure that Urushibara says looks like Daru's own look. Hashida was extremely confident that he would unilaterally destroy Nae. This turned out to be wrong. Nae absolutely wipes it out and mentions that she simply felt her body move on its own during this, to which Okabe panics and evaluates how she dug into the flesh of Daru's characters as she did before, but remembers that everyone has a small form of Reading Steiner present in them.
Okabe realizes that his tense body has caused him to use the bathroom urgently, so he quickly rushes off. He looks at his e-mails again to check if Kurisu has sent him an e-mail. He reopens his last e-mail from 10 days ago which contained some light words of blessing and talked about the occupation of his research. However, an anxiety swelled his body and his Hououin Kyouma self mocked him; telling him that he was nowhere good enough for a genius girl with a bright future ahead. Okabe suppresses these thoughts and reveals that he simply no longer has the Hououin Kyouma persona for Mayuri, but rather for himself. To keep his sanity and to remind himself that he is safe in Steins Gate. He finishes his business in the bathroom and goes out but is greeted by Nae Tennouji.
Asking him if she needs to go to the bathroom herself and exclaiming where she is, Nae quickly responds with "Hey, Uncle Okarin." As he was about to correct her, she answers again. "I'm going to kill you. Okabe Rintaro." Okarin quickly falls into disarray and dreads in his mind what is going on, although he hastily comes to the conclusion that he is just tired. Okabe and Nae discuss his appearance throughout the day: tired and depressed. Nae mentions that he has the same eyes as his father whenever he thinks of his mother. Okabe later asks Nae how she was so good at this fighting game even though she doesn't know it as she practices and plays it extensively with her friends. Finishing their conversation, he redirects Nae to join the group.
Okabe joins his group, but Nae is nowhere in sight. This becomes a major problem after an hour of her not showing up when she is called to the counter. Urushibara receives a call from Nae. They ask for her location where she vaguely describes it but is overpowered by a man and the call is over. Before the call is over, Nae mentions a symbol that looked like a 6 and a 9 matching each other. Hashida is unable to find it with so much information but Mayuri quickly cracks it by thinking more visually. The 6 and 9 represent the Yin Yang symbol. Although this alone was still not enough information and Okabe was about to cancel it. Until, an illusion of Kurisu to him to get up and continue, not to give up. With the help of Faris, whose tweet sent roars on social networks thanks to its influence, viral attackers managed to decipher the location of the kidnapper.
Okabe and Hashida fight the massive kidnapper and subdue him with Luka carrying his "Demon Sword Samidare" and Mayuri with the "Cylalume Saber." It turns out that the kidnapper was the foreign Santa of this protected Nae. He made her dress up as Rai-Net characters and took pictures of her. As Okabe thought deeply, he heard the groans of the big otaku and turned around to see Nae kicking the man in the crotch 1, 2, 3 times... and more. He was taken away by the police and the situation was handled.
The Lab Mems meet in the apartment and host a small buffet for Nae's sake. Mr. Braun returns after missing several calls, but Nae dismisses him as just wanting to hear from her father. The lab has conquered his discomfort. The day is over.
Later, Okabe is walking outside and is greeted by Mayuri, when he receives an email from Makise Kurisu, with a postscript that she sent him a letter. However, when he rushed to his mailbox, there was nothing.
