Reno Ichikawa

Reno Ichikawa is the deuteragonist of the Kaiju No. 8 series.

He briefly worked at Monster Sweeper Inc. where he met and befriended Kafka Hibino. After witnessing Kafka's transformation, Reno helped him enter the Defense Force and joined him. He was a member of the Third Division, and after the destruction of the Tachikawa base, he was transferred to the Fourth Division.

Appearance

Reno is a tall, slender young man with short silver hair and large purple eyes. He generally maintains a neutral and unflappable gaze, but this expression usually transforms into exasperation or disbelief when he is around Kafka.

Earlier in the series, Reno wore the standard Defense Force combat suit on the battlefield. Reno's new combat suit is unique compared to the standard ones worn by other Defense Force members, being a Numbers Weapon forged from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6. It is a dark blue armored suit with pipes and pistons on the back and shoulders, the Izumo Tech logo on the left side of the chest plate, and the 006 insignia on the chest.

Personality

Reno is a calm and composed individual. Although he initially resented Kafka for giving up on his dream, he later shows a softer and more caring side toward his friend, his condition, and his goals. As their bond develops, Reno begins to show a protective side, not only toward Kafka but toward all his comrades. His determination to fight for his peers leads him to completely ignore Iharu Furuhashi's one-sided rivalry and always put his safety first.

In combat, Reno is determined and straightforward, capable of thinking for himself. Due to his immense sense of responsibility toward his colleagues and his desire to become stronger, prolonged use of his Numbers weapon can cause Reno to lose control and push past his limits in order to be strong enough to save those around him.

Powers and Abilities

General Abilities: Reno is a strong member of the squad with great potential. Soshiro Hoshina noted that he has the potential to become a captain, proven when he was able to momentarily block a kaiju as strong as Kaiju No. 9. Jugo Ogata states that he is a prodigy.

After becoming compatible with Numbers Weapon 6, the most powerful and dangerous Defense Force weapon made from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6, Reno's combat skills and abilities significantly improved, allowing him to move much faster and neutralize a group of kaiju on his own. However, despite the drastic improvement in his combat prowess, it seems the suit has a negative influence on Reno's behavior, causing him to fight out of control to defeat his opponent. In fact, due to his immense sense of responsibility, Reno is able to draw a lot of power from his suit but pushes his human body beyond its limits, to the point of tearing muscles and breaking bones just to beat his enemy.

Powers

• High Released Combat Power : When Reno first tries his Defense Force combat suit, he is initially able to release 8% of the suit's power. After marksmanship training, he is able to release 18%, having improved significantly as noted by Iharu. Currently, while wearing Numbers Weapon 6, Reno's total released strength has increased to 43%, and he can further increase his suit's power to 51%.
Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: Reno is incredibly fast, surprising Kafka with how quickly he can move while carrying him. He also has incredible reflexes, capable of dodging extremely fast attacks from Kaiju No. 9. His speed is greatly increased when wearing Numbers Weapon 6.
Enhanced Endurance: Reno has incredible levels of physical endurance, capable of continuing to fight after being shot multiple times by Kaiju No. 9. When wearing Numbers Weapon 6, Reno is able to keep fighting even with fractured bones and muscle tears.

Cryokinesis: By using Numbers Weapon 6, Reno is able to release large amounts of ice and freezing energy from his body, replicating the former powers of Kaiju No. 6. Reno can use this to stick to his environment by releasing ice from his feet to stabilize his footing. The suit also includes freezing bullets. Reno can also freeze his enemies with a simple touch of his hand. After further training his skills, Reno can now successfully freeze an entire horde of Daikaiju in a single attack.
