Ranking the Top 7 Yonko abilities in One Piece

The One Piece series has introduced an impressive variety of ultra-powerful characters over the years, with power levels that never cease to climb.

For a time, the Seven Warlords of the Sea seemed to be at the top of the hierarchy, but One Piece fans eventually discovered the Four Emperors, or Yonkos in Japanese. Unlike the Warlords, who are the World Government's dogs of war, the Yonkos obey no higher authority and establish their own rules in the New World.

Each of the Four Emperors commands immense respect and undisputed authority in the New World, making this part of the Grand Line far more dangerous than the other half, known as Paradise. Not only do the Yonkos possess legions of pirates and numerous ships at their disposal, but they are also among the most formidable fighters in the world. No pirate captain or admiral could stand against one of them alone, and it often takes a coalition of the most powerful fighters to even hope to scratch them. Here is a ranking of the most powerful abilities of these legendary sea titans.

7. Buggy the Clown's Incredible Luck

User: Buggy the Clown

Buggy the Clown made his debut in the East Blue saga, long before the One Piece story focused on the Four Emperors. At the time, Buggy was a threat to the Straw Hats with his Chop-Chop Fruit powers, but he was quickly surpassed by the story's evolution. His combat power became negligible, but he possesses a bizarre "ability": exceptional luck. Although it is the weakest of the Emperors' known abilities, it has nonetheless allowed Buggy to climb the ranks.

Alone, Buggy could never have become a Warlord or an Emperor, but fortune carved an unexpected path for him. Through various misadventures, Buggy managed to escape Impel Down with Luffy and Sir Crocodile, then created the image of an immensely powerful pirate. His incredible luck allowed him to join Luffy among the new Emperors, although it hasn't only brought him happiness, as he is currently the punching bag of Mihawk and Crocodile in Cross Guild.

6. The Soul-Soul Fruit Can Create a "Homies" Army

User: Charlotte Linlin / Big Mom

The fearsome Big Mom, formerly known as Charlotte Linlin, appeared in the Fish-Man Island arc before becoming Luffy's next major enemy in the Whole Cake Island arc. Big Mom, true to her name, was the mother of an immense pirate fleet, and she was far stronger than all of them, even her Sweet Commanders. In addition to Armament Haki and her hat-sword Napoleon, Big Mom possessed the incredible ability to create Homies thanks to the Soul-Soul Fruit.

This term, coined by Big Mom, refers to the animated soldiers she can create with her Soul-Soul Fruit, one of the most powerful Paramecia Devil Fruits in One Piece. With this power, Big Mom can transform anything—except a person or a corpse—into an animated servant, endowed with characteristics and powers corresponding to its nature. She can even transform the air itself into a Homie, showing the true extent of her powers. Her Homies, Zeus and Hera in particular, are quite formidable.

5. Kaido's Bolo Breath is a Fearsome Fiery Weapon

User: Kaido

Kaido made his grand debut in the long and epic Wano saga as the world's strongest living creature. It was accepted as fact that Kaido could not be killed, whether in his human form or his Azure Dragon form. He didn't just rely on his endurance to win fights; he also possessed astonishing speed and several offensive weapons, starting with his spiked iron club.

Kaido's club is a fearsome weapon in his human form, but in his dragon form, he can do much more. His best ability is Bolo Breath, a devastating blast of fire. This makes Kaido a true mythical dragon capable of outmatching Luffy's Gear 4 power in combat. Fangs and claws are enough for Kaido to defeat any pirate, but if the enemy tries to flee or fight from a distance, Bolo Breath is his major asset.

4. The Dark-Dark Fruit's Devil Fruit Nullification Offers a Surprising Advantage

User: Marshall D. Teach / Captain Blackbeard

Marshall D. Teach, aka Captain Blackbeard, showed the full extent of his Dark-Dark Fruit powers during his fight against Portgas D. Ace on Banaro Island before the One Piece time skip. Ace felt confident with his Flame-Flame Fruit powers, but he couldn't easily counter Blackbeard's ability to absorb objects into darkness and spit them back out. Even worse, Blackbeard could nullify the powers of Ace's Devil Fruit.

Blackbeard's ability to nullify another Devil Fruit user's powers ranks in the middle among all the Emperors' abilities because it requires physical contact with a hand. But in return, it is a near-universal ability in a series like this. No matter how powerful the enemy's Devil Fruit is, it is useless against Blackbeard, who can then capture or kill his enemy with ease. This is how Blackbeard captured Ace despite the latter's body of fire.

3. Haki-Infused Weapon Attacks Can Split the Sky Itself

User: Red-Haired Shanks

Among all the known Emperors, Red-Haired Shanks is the only one who hasn't eaten a Devil Fruit, and at this rate, he won't need to. Shanks relies on Haki and swordsmanship, which have taken him very far in the New World. His swordsmanship skills are nearly unmatched, making him a worthy rival to the hero/villain Dracule Mihawk and even Captain Whitebeard himself.

Shanks can enhance his swordsmanship using Haki, a combat style he has absolutely mastered. That said, his best ability is attacking with his sword while maximizing his Armament Haki, allowing him to trade blows with fighters like Whitebeard and split the sky in the process. His firepower seems slightly lower than Whitebeard's, but he has the advantage of being younger and in better physical shape.

2. Whitebeard's Haki-Infused Weapon Attacks Are Devastating

User: Edward Newgate / Captain Whitebeard

For a time, Edward Newgate reigned as the world's strongest man and was the captain of the impressive Whitebeard Pirates fleet. Whitebeard's endurance was legendary, as was his physical strength, making him a formidable opponent for anyone on the seas. He also had the advantage of his Tremor-Tremor Fruit, a great power he only used under duress.

If Captain Whitebeard encountered a truly worthy enemy, such as another Emperor like Shanks, he would use his best technique, infusing his weapon with Haki and attacking with brute force. Such a maneuver could devastate an enemy with extreme power and precision, making it a better option in a duel than his Devil Fruit. With a single strike, Whitebeard could split the sky itself along with Shanks, a testament to each man's titanic power.

1. Luffy's Gear 5 is the Cartoon Power That Will Free the Whole World

User: Monkey D. Luffy

The most powerful Emperor ability seen so far, and probably the most powerful that will ever exist, is Monkey D. Luffy's transformation into Gear 5. Unlocking this power and becoming the incarnation of Nika the Sun God changed everything during Luffy's fight against Emperor Kaido on Onigashima. Until that moment, Luffy was losing the battle with Gear 4.

Luffy didn't just gain power by reaching Gear 5; he completely broke the One Piece combat system with cartoon physics, which is part of the fun. Luffy can ignore power rankings and the established rules of the series to play with his opponent as he wishes, even transforming Kaido and the rocky battlefield into rubber to take control of the fight. Admittedly, Luffy will exhaust himself quickly with Gear 5, but while using it, he is practically invincible. This is why Luffy became the new Joy Boy, destined to free the world with the Drums of Liberation.
