With the release of Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc scheduled for 2025, anime fans will finally get to experience Denji's next adventure, three years after season 1, which adapted the first four manga arcs.
However, since the movie includes the fifth arc, fans are wondering if there will ever be a season 2 of Chainsaw Man. MAPPA studio might also produce films for the remaining arcs, similar to the upcoming Demon Slayer trilogy.

Although it's a dark and morbid series, Chainsaw Man features endearing characters like Denji and Asa, whose flaws and complexity only add depth to their personalities. These characters may have committed terrible acts, but their lovable nature, struggles, motivations, and noble sides make them impossible not to appreciate. That said, some truly evil individuals are among the most popular characters in Chainsaw Man.
Updated on February 27, 2024, by Ajay Aravind: Widely considered one of the three dark Shonen, Chainsaw Man is filled with some of the cruelest characters in humanity. In reality, the series has very few truly heroic figures. Villains like Makima and Santa Claus are real monsters, while heroes like Aki and Power cross significant moral lines. Nevertheless, these characters remain remarkable parts of the series, making many of them deeply lovable. As the upcoming Reze Arc film approaches, we've updated this article with five more relevant pieces.
15. Kobeni is the comic relief we all need
Kobeni Higashiyama realistically depicts a normal person's reactions to the horrors in Chainsaw Man. Her fear, anxiety, and shyness make her relatable, while her exaggerated reactions and apparent incompetence provide many hilarious gags. Her series of misfortunes is both funny and makes her one of the most endearing characters. Despite her flaws, she’s noble in joining the Special Division 4 to support her family, and when she overcomes her fear, she proves herself formidable in battle. However, her usual behavior alienates others, ranking her lower in popularity.
14. Reze passed away before fans could truly know her
Reze, aka Bomb Girl, is one of Chainsaw Man's most beloved characters, though most of her interactions are part of a deceptive act meant to seduce Denji. Though her name might not even be her real one, this plot twist had a strong impact on fans. Reze’s real feelings for Denji were genuine, and despite her role as an agent of the USSR and her cynical nature, fans sympathize with her painful past. She remains one of the most beloved antagonists, especially after learning she didn't want to harm Denji.
13. Kishibe is too cool and lovable to be disliked
Kishibe, the most powerful Devil Hunter in Chainsaw Man, is a mentor to Denji and Power, and one of the best mentors in recent Shonen history. He promises Denji he will make him "the toughest of tough guys." His raw power and no-nonsense approach make him an iconic character. Though he’s tough and willing to be ruthless, he also shows care for his students, making him one of the more likable characters. His bond with Quanxi is also endearing, despite the lack of romantic reciprocation.
12. Makima's popularity contradicts her nature and actions
Makima initially presents herself as compassionate and kind, showing Denji kindness for the first time in years. Despite her increasingly eccentric behavior, she became even more popular, and fans appreciated the dynamic between her and other characters. Although she is the Control Devil, one of the most dangerous antagonists, she ranked second in popularity polls in 2020 and 2021. Her manipulative and antagonist nature didn’t seem to diminish her appeal, partly due to her twisted affection for Pochita.
11. Quanxi is the most badass character in Chainsaw Man
Formerly known as the First Devil Hunter, Quanxi is a ruthless assassin and the most powerful Devil Hybrid after Denji. She is one of the most impressive characters in the manga, with her breathtaking battles. Though cold and distant, her tenderness toward her friends adds depth to her character. Quanxi’s past, including her struggles with revealing her sexuality, and her efforts to protect her friends, make her a character of great strength and vulnerability. Her motivation for human rights for demons is inspiring, making her a powerful figure.
10. The Angel Devil is non-cliché and wonderfully strange
Unlike most other demons in Chainsaw Man, the Angel Devil works as a Devil Hunter in Special Division Tokyo 4. Born from the fear of angels, he doesn’t harbor much hatred for humans, and even comforts dying humans, showing his empathy. Fans love the Angel Devil for his deep connection with Aki Hayakawa. He’s a great anime character, combining traits of a lazy yet powerful warrior with a disdain for authority figures. His ability to absorb the lifespan of anyone he touches adds complexity to his character, and his odd charm and love for Italian ice cream make him both endearing and intriguing.
9. Meowy remains adorable throughout
In anime, animals often take center stage, from Appa and Momo in Avatar: The Last Airbender to Akamaru in Naruto. Similarly, Meowy in Chainsaw Man plays a bigger role than expected. Initially, she’s a hungry cat found by Power in the jungle, who plans to eat her after fattening her up. However, Power bonds with Meowy, especially seen in her desperate attempt to save the cat from the Bat Devil. Much like Denji's bond with Pochita, Power's relationship with Meowy is heartwarming. Despite not doing much or saying anything, Meowy is beloved by fans for simply being adorable.
8. Himeno would be easy to spend time with
Of all the heroes in Chainsaw Man, Himeno is the most grounded. She’s quirky in her own way but also mature, friendly, and empathetic. She cares deeply for her juniors, especially Aki, and balances her trauma and pessimism with a good-natured attitude. While she has her flaws—like attempting to sleep with Denji while drunk—she is one of the few main characters who isn’t casually murderous or sadistic. Himeno’s heroic death, sacrificing herself to save Aki, left a lasting impact on fans and her friends.
7. Beam’s oddness is his main appeal
The Shark Devil, Beam, was introduced in the penultimate episode of season 1, helping the Special Division 4 team against Akane Sawatari. Fans will soon appreciate Beam’s charm as he partners with Denji in the Chainsaw Man Reze Arc movie. Beam enthusiastically calls Denji "Chainsaw Lord" and while Denji finds his constant optimism and exaggerated reactions annoying, it’s precisely what makes Beam so lovable. Despite his dramatic and eccentric nature, Beam proves his worth in battle and saves Denji multiple times, cementing his place as one of Chainsaw Man's most endearing characters.
6. Nayuta was Denji’s last positive bond
Nayuta, the latest incarnation of the Control Devil and one of the Four Horsemen, is entrusted to Denji after Makima’s death. Though she has the body and mind of a schoolgirl, her deep nature as one of the most powerful and feared Devils makes her one of the most terrifying characters. However, Nayuta remains loyal to Denji, becoming the only person he still loves. Her mix of a cheeky schoolgirl attitude and a deadly Devil creates a fun combination, and her relationship with Denji becomes precious. Despite her occasionally annoying traits, fans see what Denji sees in her, though the bond was always destined to be broken given the series' dark tone.
5. Pochita is adorable, compassionate, and heroic
Undoubtedly the cutest character in Chainsaw Man, Pochita is a canine Devil who shares a deep bond with Denji. Initially thought to be weak, Pochita reveals himself to be one of the most powerful beings in the series. Denji was lucky when he gave his blood to the dying Pochita, forming a partnership that saved his life. Pochita’s kindness was evident when he sacrificed himself to become Denji’s heart. His devotion to Denji’s dreams and goals makes him incredibly endearing, and like the Angel Devil, Pochita seems to care for humanity, having already destroyed many powerful Devils. Fans adore Pochita for both his cuteness and heroic deeds.
4. Asa Mitaka's flaws make her even more lovable
As a major character in Chainsaw Man Part Two, fans spend more time inside Asa Mitaka’s head than almost any other character. Asa starts the story unpopular and friendless due to her lack of sociability, clumsiness, and pessimism. Yet, she enjoys immense popularity, particularly among teenage fans who find her endearing. Asa has the heart of a heroine, willing to risk her life for others, despite her mean-spirited, selfish, superficial, and rude nature. Asa shares her body with Yoru, the War Devil, and their hostile relationship evolves, with their constant bickering ranging from terrifying to hysterical. Her romantic feelings toward Denji, combined with the horrible experiences they share, make Asa even more sympathetic, especially in Chainsaw Man chapter 167.
3. Denji’s tragic life and gentle nature make him easy to root for
Denji is a remarkable subversion of the typical shonen protagonist. He doesn’t aim to become the greatest Devil Hunter or defeat the most dangerous demons. Instead, his ambitions are simple: to live a life where he can eat comfortably every day, have an intimate relationship with a woman, and, in the second part, take care of Nayuta. The first chapter of Chainsaw Man focuses on showing fans Denji’s atypical worldview, shedding light on his tragic past.
Denji is crude, irritating, direct, and deeply naive, and he doesn't care about civilians caught in the crossfire of his battles. However, mixed with his kindness, courage, acceptance of others, and optimism in the face of endless struggles, these negative traits become endearing. His love for Pochita, Power, Aki, and Nayuta is evident, and his desperate need to be loved makes him easy to support.
2. Aki became the big brother Denji needed
Aki Hayakawa is the most tragic character in Chainsaw Man. While few fictional characters suffer as much as Denji, there’s always a glimmer of hope in his life. For Aki, it's clear from his first appearance that he will die due to his unrelenting dedication to killing the Gun Devil. In the first part of Chainsaw Man, Aki is the most noble of the Devil Hunters fans encounter. He’s irritable, antisocial, and intolerant of anyone standing between him and the Gun Devil, but he’s a good man with a tragic past and lofty heroic aspirations.
Aki becomes more endearing throughout the first part, and he forms a family with Denji and Power. Before being forced to live with the Chainsaw Devil and the Blood Demon, Aki led a simple, organized life focused solely on his mission. Initially, Aki feels nothing but annoyance and hatred for Denji and Power, but over time, he comes to love them, becoming their tired big brother and turning them from selfish agents of chaos into true heroes.
1. Power is the most popular character in Chainsaw Man
Denji’s best friend and adopted little sister, Power, the Blood Demon, is lovable from her very first appearance. Power is an absolute threat and one of the most unpleasant people to meet: loud, obnoxious, narcissistic, murderous, and a nightmare roommate. She ranked first in Chainsaw Man's first popularity poll and third in the second, solidifying her place at the top of this list.
Power’s antics are a constant source of laughter throughout the first part, and the family bond she forms with Denji and Aki allows her to thrive. Despite her near-total horribleness, Power always shows love and compassion, as seen in her care for Meowy. The relationship between Aki, Denji, and Power is one of the series’ strongest elements, with Power being the heart of the group. Chainsaw Man is a dark series that offers little reason for happiness for most of its characters, but Power serves as a light in the darkness, attracting fans from around the world.
