Many anime explore the psychology of the human mind, as well as deep scientific themes that engage viewers. The smartest characters often bring essential logic to their peers and the audience. While there are many intelligent characters, these are among the brightest.
Updated on February 11, 2025 by Louis Kemner: This list of the smartest anime characters of all time has been enriched with five additional entries, featuring the most educated, clever, cunning, and intelligent characters anime fans will ever encounter. The most fun part is that these characters aren’t all equally intelligent, using their intellect for everything from solving mysteries and outwitting enemy armies to acing exams or even plotting to take over the world. The list has also been slightly simplified for easier reading.
40. Dio Brando orchestrated the downfall of the Joestar family
Many of the villains in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are incredibly intelligent. The antagonists of this series are exceptionally creative and malevolent, which is a credit to its creator, Hirohiko Araki. Dio Brando is undoubtedly the most cunning of the JoJo villains, later known simply as DIO.
DIO’s incredible creativity allows him to remain a constant threat to the Joestar family. His craftiness and perseverance are unmatched in the series, demonstrating his intelligence and long-term planning. That being said, DIO could easily be surpassed by other anime characters who are smarter, which is why he ranks last among the smartest anime characters.
39. Yuki Sohma gets the best grades at school
Yuki Sohma is the prince of his school for a good reason. Not only does he become the student council president, but he also gets the highest grades in his class, making him more studious than his rebellious cousin, Kyo Sohma.
Despite his immense intelligence, Yuki doesn’t keep it to himself. He willingly helps anyone who asks for tutoring and teaches each lesson with ease. Yuki has a lot to deal with emotionally, but his studies and intelligence allow him to maintain some control when the rest of his life falls into chaos.
38. Ray played a major role in the escape from Grace Field House
Unlike most inhabitants of the Promised Neverland, Ray never lost his childhood memories. Because of this, he knows that the orphanage he lives in is actually a farm where demons raise children before devouring them.
Ray dedicates his entire life to saving his closest friends from Grace Field House during The Promised Neverland, planning each of his moves for years and figuring out how to escape. Without Ray, all the children he considered his family would have met a tragic fate.
37. Winry Rockbell is a talented Automail engineer
Craftspeople of the working class are often overlooked for their ability to assemble complex pieces into a perfectly functioning whole. Winry Rockbell, famous for her role in Fullmetal Alchemist, is a top-tier artisan with astronomical mechanical knowledge.
Winry knows everything about automail, as evidenced by her understanding of Edward Elric’s arm during their first connection. When it comes to equipment and those who wear it, few engineers are as skilled as Winry. Even without formal training, Winry is smart enough to have taught herself the basics, allowing her to continue taking care of Edward as she always has.
36. Jotaro Kujo always finds a way to win
The best part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure lies in the intelligence and resourcefulness of its heroes. This wasn't really the case with Jonathan Joestar in Phantom Blood, but Joseph Joestar started an exciting trend that Jotaro was able to take full advantage of in Stardust Crusaders. In addition to being tough and confident, Jotaro has a solid street-smart intelligence.
This is exactly what it takes to survive and win Stand battles, as these have various and often deadly abilities. Jotaro is the perfect character to quickly find a flaw in the enemy’s plan and turn it against them. He even had the foresight to slip a large book under his shirt to block DIO's knives, a simple move that saved his life.
35. Aquamarine Hoshino must uncover the truth about the murder of his new mother
This isn’t Aquamarine Hoshino’s first time growing up and living a life, which gives him a disconcerting sharpness for a teenager. A doctor in his past life, Aqua now puts his sense of contact and observation to use tracking down the accomplice of Ai Hoshino’s murderer. Aqua is thus among the smartest anime characters of all time, even though there are still many others smarter than him.
Aqua is incredibly gifted at reading people; like a chameleon, he morphs into each of his characters. He always knows what to say to get what he wants. His intelligence makes him both popular with girls and unpopular with his enemies, but it’s undeniable that his cleverness keeps the balance. This makes him one of the most captivating characters in the dark and subversive anime Oshi no Ko.
34. Tenya Iida studies harder than anyone at UA
While other anime characters are good at improvising when things go wrong, Tenya Iida from My Hero Academia is a master planner, which allows him never to have to react quickly. Despite his age, he’s an incredibly resourceful hero, with his only obstacle being his lack of self-confidence.
With more confidence, Tenya’s intelligence and power could easily allow him to surpass his brother Tensei as the fast hero of the Engines. In the meantime, Tenya’s training at UA High will make him a better man, hopefully preparing him for such responsibility one day. Tenya's intelligence, work ethic, and maturity make him a smart and responsible young man, recognized as one of the smartest anime characters.
33. loKarma Akabane is a keen observer with a sharp mind
Karma Akabane is a brilliant student in class 3-E of Assassination Classroom. When he bothers to take his exams, he regularly comes first in his class and fights to become the best student. Moreover, Karma is an excellent observer who exploits others' weaknesses to get what he wants.
Karma’s ability to spot the weaknesses of others makes him one of the best assassins in his class, just behind Nagisa Shiota. Karma is a motivated and intelligent individual, willing to do whatever it takes to prove he’s the best. He is one of the smartest characters in Assassination Classroom and ranks among the smartest anime characters of all time, though some characters surpass him, which is why he ranks modestly.
32. Kamille Bidan helped design his own giant robot
Kamille Bidan was already on his way to becoming a smart kid before he was drawn into the Gryps conflict. He was an amateur mecha builder, following in the footsteps of his scientist parents. However, he took it to the next level by working for the Earth Federation Anti-Earth Government.
Though only 17 years old, Kamille was smart enough to play a significant role in developing his own Gundam. After studying the plans for Char’s Hyaku Shiki mobile suit, Kamille was not only smart enough to understand them but also to improve them. He figured out how to make the inert transformation function of the Hyaku Shiki work in a future design, adding improvements to create an enhanced model. Eventually, his design skills were good enough for Anaheim Electronics to develop the Zeta Gundam and send it to him.
31. Mitsumi Iwakura wants to become a politician one day
Mitsumi Iwakura knows what she wants for her future and isn’t afraid to work hard to get there. She worked hard to get into her current high school and is determined to maintain the same rigor throughout her schooling.
In addition to her studies, Mitsumi has a great deal of emotional intelligence. She often gives (sometimes inadvertently) advice that helps her friends overcome their difficulties. Determined to make the most of her life, she works hard and excels at achieving her mental and social goals, proving that her ambitious dreams are not as unrealistic as her detractors might think.
30. Armin Arlert came up with clever ways to fight the Titans
Although Armin Arlert isn’t as physically strong as his comrades, he is the smartest character in Attack on Titan. He rarely has a precise plan when the Scout Regiment is on a mission, and his friends often consider him their leader, even though he is shy and lacks charisma. This is why Armin tended to let his ideas speak while characters like Levi and Mikasa took on the leadership role.
Without Armin, the Female Titan’s identity would never have been revealed, and the Scout Regiment would never have been able to defeat her. Armin’s intelligence becomes a decisive factor in saving humanity later in the Attack on Titan anime. It’s no surprise that Armin is among the smartest anime characters of all time, even though he would prefer to live in a peaceful world where his tactical intelligence is never called upon.
29. Griffith led the Band of the Hawk to victory
If Guts, the protagonist of Berserk, is simply tough and pragmatic, his friend-turned-archenemy, Griffith, is both a seasoned warrior and a talented leader, on the battlefield as well as off. As a young man, Griffith possessed the intelligence, willpower, and charisma necessary to lead the Band of the Hawk, and he devised a daring plan that led to the recapture of Fort Doldrey. Griffith also uncovered and thwarted a conspiracy at the Midland court.
After betraying the Band for the infamous God Hand, Griffith formulated a plan to fulfill his dream: to establish his own kingdom. To achieve this, he created a new, more powerful Band of the Hawk to triumph over the numerically superior Kouchane Imperial Army and then founded and led the city of Falconia as a statesman. Despite his crimes and abuses, Griffith rose as a hero for the people of Midland, and all turned to him for guidance during this dark period.
28. Maomao is adept at court intrigue and poisons
Maomao, the heroine of The Apothecary Diaries, has quickly become a fan-favorite character thanks to her fantastic blend of enthusiasm, sharp wit, and her intriguing relationship with Jinshi. Before being kidnapped and sold as a servant to the Imperial Court, Maomao worked as an apothecary with her father, which contributed to her intelligence and practicality. A passionate experimenter, she is a master of poisons and medicines, and her talent for investigation makes her invaluable to Master Jinshi when it comes to solving the many mysteries of the Inner Palace.
Despite her intelligence, she lives in a world that not only refuses to recognize women’s ability to achieve the same conclusions—if not better—as men, but also strictly forbids them from working as doctors or creating medicines. Even though she works behind the scenes to empower her fellow women in the Inner Palace and other servants, her intelligence is both a marvel to those who respect her and a hindrance to those plotting chaos within the Empire.
27. Negi Springfield is a master of magic
From a very young age, Negi Springfield distinguished himself as a prodigy. His exceptional intelligence allowed him to graduate from university early and become a middle school teacher at just ten years old. Although the girls initially had a hard time taking him seriously, he quickly proved he deserved the position.
However, it wasn’t just Negi’s academic intelligence that was remarkable. His combat talent was never exceptional; it was simply his intelligence that allowed him to win so many battles. Furthermore, his intelligence enabled him to master magical theory so thoroughly that it would take others decades to learn things that he could master in months.
26. Houtarou Oreki is an excellent detective
Houtarou Oreki is an apathetic high school student in Hyouka. Although intelligent, Houtarou dislikes being around others and prefers to do the bare minimum to get by. However, everything changes when he meets the bubbly Eru Chitanda.
After meeting Chitanda, Oreki discovers his talent for solving puzzles and proves his observational skills by helping her unravel the mystery of her uncle’s disappearance. The more the Literature Club solves investigations together, the more Oreki establishes himself as a sharp detective.
25. Bulma is a talented inventor
Bulma is one of the most iconic and intelligent anime characters, thanks to her role in the famous Dragon Ball franchise by Akira Toriyama. She held this title long before anime became as popular as it is today. Since her first appearance in Dragon Ball, Bulma has constantly invented new gadgets to improve the situation.
For example, Bulma created the Dragon Radar and helped perfect time travel. In the case of the Blutz Wave Ray (now non-canon), she sometimes causes more harm than good. However, Bulma’s genius always shines through, even when working for the villains, which is how she earned her place among the most intelligent anime characters fans have ever encountered.
24. Loid Forger is the best and most efficient spy in Westalis
In Spy x Family, the medium Anya Forger is a comically bad student, and her adoptive mother Yor occasionally embarrasses herself. In contrast, Loid Forger and his fellow WISE agents are all sharp and intelligent. Loid, Fiona Frost, Franky Franklin, and Sylvia Sherwood are undercover agents with quick wits who thrive in Ostania.
Loid Forger is the smartest and most resourceful agent in Westalis. A famous agent known as Twilight, he can accomplish any mission under any circumstances. He is reactive and quickly devises clever plans to gather crucial intelligence or escape a critical situation.
23. Norman always has the right plan in mind
It is thanks to the smartest characters in The Promised Neverland that they managed to survive. Norman is the only child from Grace Field House who is smarter than Ray, which further proves the prodigious talent of the young characters in The Promised Neverland. When Norman discovers the existence of demons outside the orphanage, he is expelled and presumed dead.
This is why Norman develops a plan after predicting everything that would happen in the weeks leading up to the arrival of the next child. He shares it with Emma, and she carries it out. Norman saves his family without even being present to lead them, proving his place among the most intelligent anime characters.
22. Kaguya Shinomiya is the intelligent heir of her powerful family
Although Miyuki Shirogane is the top student at Shuchiin Academy, Kaguya Shinomiya is close behind, proving her incredible talent. Kaguya doesn’t need to study as hard or as frequently to achieve such a rank, while Miyuki has practically dedicated his life to studying.
Kaguya often gains the upper hand over Miyuki in their intellectual duels, although she never quite manages to finish him off completely. This makes Kaguya Shinomiya one of the most intelligent characters, not only in Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, but across the entire anime industry.
21. Ami Mizuno earns excellent grades and is the strategist of the Sailor Scouts
Ami Mizuno is the smartest of the Sailor Scouts in Sailor Moon. Her academic achievements place her among the national top rankings, and her intelligence regularly helps the Scouts make crucial discoveries. Additionally, her analytical abilities are second to none.
Ami is also an excellent strategist, able to analyze and break down her enemies’ movements and combat styles with precision. Her intelligence often gives the Sailor Scouts the upper hand in numerous battles and helps them defeat galactic evil forces. With an IQ of 200, it’s no surprise that Ami ranks among the most intelligent anime characters of all time.
20. Yumeko Jabami can outplay almost anyone when it comes to gambling
Yumeko Jabami isn’t just the sharpest player in Kakegurui, she has a wildly energetic and reckless approach to gambling. Yumeko becomes a true wildcard at Hyakkaou Academy, breaking social norms and obsessing over the primal thrill of the game. Yumeko couldn’t care less about wealth or prestige—she just wants to savor the experience and doesn’t tolerate cheating.
While Yumeko’s track record has seen some setbacks, she generally dominates the competition at Hyakkaou, thanks to her clever, insightful bets and sharp powers of observation. No matter what tricks or resources her opponents throw at her, Yumeko finds a way to turn the tables, often with the help of friends like Mary or Ryota, to surprise the enemy at the last moment. With such cunning in gambling, Yumeko unquestionably deserves her place among the most intelligent anime characters of all time.
19. Mavis Vermillion is a clever strategist and has read an entire library
Many members of the Fairy Tail guild rely on the power of friendship or overwhelming magical force to win, like protagonists Natsu Dragneel and Laxus Dreyar. Mavis Vermillion, however, stands out as one of the most intelligent and devious characters in Fairy Tail.
As a child, Mavis eagerly read hundreds of books in an abandoned library, quickly putting all that knowledge to use. Mavis is also a master tactician and a talented leader, as demonstrated in the Grand Magic Games tournament. She is skilled in illusion magic, using it to deter enemies and even create an illusory army to fend off far more powerful opponents. Mavis is unquestionably the most brilliant member of the Fairy Tail guild, and her feats make her one of the most intelligent anime characters of all time.
18. Miyuki Shirogane studied hard to reach the top
Miyuki Shirogane has been president of the student council at Shuchiin Academy for two years. He always has the highest grades in his class and, after graduation, plans to study at Stanford University in the United States. Thanks to his scholarship, Shirogane feels like he can never make a mistake or risk losing his place at the Academy, which drives him to stay at the top of his grades.
Shirogane is a bit clueless when it comes to romance and relationships with women, but he compensates for his shortcomings with clever schemes to win the heart of his vice president, Kaguya Shinomiya. His plans don’t always work, but his successes are far more frequent than Kaguya’s when it comes to romantic interludes. Shirogane is always ready, whether it’s for intimidating exams or elaborate love confessions—he has the intelligence to reach his goals.
17. Edward Elric is a scientific alchemist
Edward Elric, the protagonist of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, can be childish and hot-tempered at times, but he is brilliant, and his peers respect him for it. Edward and his younger brother Alphonse were both gifted children with a knack for science, something their mother Trisha was proud of.
Edward Elric seamlessly combines science and alchemy to become a flexible, inventive, and unpredictable fighter, capable of winning battles without even shedding blood. He and Alphonse also work day and night to decipher Dr. Tim Marcoh’s highly cryptic notes, although what they discover once the contents are revealed isn’t always to their liking.
16. Seto Kaiba took over a multinational corporation as a teenager
While Kaiba may have had his share of struggles facing Yugi in duels, defeat wasn’t his habit. He was adopted solely because he was clever enough to beat his father, who was a business prodigy, at chess. Once in his service, Kaiba used his position to eventually steal the company from him, even though he was still a teenager.
Later, Kaiba used his intelligence to push the game Duel Monsters to the forefront, turning it into the most popular game in the world. His hard light technology created the realistic holograms in the series, making his company one of the most successful worldwide. Even when other members of Kaiba Corporation tried to oust him, he was sharp enough to deduce their plans and defeat them again. However, Kaiba's ego often takes over, placing him in situations he can't always escape from. This context makes it hard to rank him higher.
15. Sosuke Aizen conspired to rule the heavens
While many Shinigami in Bleach rely on simple combat techniques to win, former captain Sosuke Aizen always relied on ingenuity, aided by his zanpakuto, Kyoka Suigetsu. Aizen mastered his shikai, using his perfect hypnosis to deceive and manipulate even large groups of people for years to push his plans forward without anyone realizing.
Aizen even killed Central 46, hiding this information through an illusion, and succeeded in his Hollowfication experiments by leaving Kisuke Urahara to bear the consequences. His manipulations spanned decades, always staying one step ahead of those who tried to stop him, from Kisuke to Toshiro Hitsugaya. Aizen also possessed leadership qualities and the charisma needed to create a false identity and deceive everyone, with or without his shikai. Furthermore, Aizen was intelligent enough to master Kido spells and fully exploit the potential of the Hogyoku. Through all these schemes, Aizen has earned his place among the most intelligent anime characters.
14. Momo Yaoyorozu uses her incredible intelligence to make good use of her quirk
Being a hero doesn’t necessarily mean being a genius in My Hero Academia, but it certainly helps. The Class 1-A students are full of intelligent heroes, but the smartest among them is Momo Yaoyorozu. Her quirk allows her to create objects at will, and her intelligence sets her apart as one of the top students in the class, making her a future great professional hero.
While she may not have the intelligence of Iida, Momo is one of the class’s best when it comes to applying her knowledge on the battlefield. It’s her practical know-how that places her at the top of the list, ahead of all the other MHA characters.
13. Hermit Mio was designed to be a master of computing
True, Hermit is an android, so calling her one of the "smartest" might seem like cheating. However, she comes from a universe where androids look more human-like, and not all of them are hyper-intelligent. Hermit was specifically designed to be super-smart, earning the nickname "The Mind" of the spaceship Edens Zero.
Hermit is a genius programmer, and the Edens Zero crew relies on her to protect their systems from the most dangerous pirates and hackers in the galaxy. Speaking of hacking, Mio is smart enough to hack into an MMO in real-time and modify the game's code to help her friends. This is thanks to her special ability, Master Code, which allows her to hack into and modify any computer system at will.
12. Madara Uchiha is an unparalleled strategist
Madara Uchiha is undoubtedly the greatest tactician in Naruto. Given the rules of the Naruto universe, coming back from the dead is no easy feat, but Madara manages to do it. He masters many jutsu and has a voice capable of rallying entire armies.
Madara uses his intelligence with devastating efficiency. His sole goal seems to be sowing chaos and overshadowing others. Beyond that, he is free to live as he pleases, dying only when he chooses. In short, once resurrected, Madara was ready to wreak havoc in the Naruto world with his powerful mind and even stronger jutsus.
11. Vinsmoke Judge is a brutal but brilliant scientist
Vinsmoke Judge is the king of the nomadic nation Germa and the father of the tsundere leader, Sanji. He appears in One Piece's Whole Cake Saga as an ally of Big Mom and uses advanced science to create lab-grown children like Sanji, Reiju, Yonji, and others.
At one point, Vinsmoke Judge, skilled in studies, worked alongside Dr. Vegapunk—no small feat—but their paths eventually diverged. Vinsmoke Judge now plans to finish what he started alone and create an army of bio-engineered super-soldiers to annihilate his enemies with terrifying strength.
10. Shikamaru Nara has an IQ over 200, making him a genius
Shikamaru Nara is a shinobi and member of the Nara clan in Naruto. His greatest wish was to live a peaceful, quiet life, but his knowledge and combat prowess prevent that. Not only does he master the shadow techniques of the Nara clan, but he even invented new ones, partly explaining why Shikamaru ranks among the smartest anime characters of all time.
Shikamaru is a loyal friend who does his best to protect his allies at all costs. Although this often leads him to take on more responsibilities, Shikamaru always prioritizes his friends over his desire for freedom. Most notably, Shikamaru is capable of thinking about any battle in terms of shogi, planning dozens of moves ahead to ensure that no matter what enemies like Temari or Hidan do, they will fall into his trap and face the consequences.
9. Zeno is much smarter than he seems
Even though Zeno doesn't always show it in the Dragon Ball anime universe, thanks in part to his simplistic design, the Omni King is incredibly intelligent. The only downside is that his naïveté often prevents him from fully utilizing his knowledge.
Zeno behaves like a selfish child in many ways, but he is also capable of great things and seems to understand the intricacies of the twelve universes of Dragon Ball, which is no small feat. Even Whis, who is quite intelligent, doesn't have the knowledge or power of Zeno. Although Zeno is wise, he tends to let others think for him, something the smartest characters wouldn't do.
8. Senku Ishigami used his brain to reinvent everything about the 21st century
Senku Ishigami, the scientific hero, is a jack-of-all-trades in the world of science in Dr. Stone. While Bulma, like in Dragon Ball, mainly focuses on technology, Senku masters everything from physics to chemistry to biology. Furthermore, he can create just about anything, even with very few resources.
Beyond Senku's vast knowledge, he has the ability to draw complex conclusions from new information. He is also a sharp strategist, leading the charge against Tsukasa and other threats in the Stone World. This is part of his leadership talents, as he can perfectly delegate tasks and find ways to convince everyone to work for him in the Kingdom of Science, because Senku knows that the best science is always a team effort.
7. Conan Edogawa is one of the best detectives in anime
Even though the protagonist of Detective Conan appears to be a child, he is actually an extraordinary detective and one of the smartest anime characters. He possesses the deduction powers and skills of an adult detective, as he was transformed into a child after being drugged with an experimental drug.
Conan's juvenile appearance doesn't mean he only solves child-sized mysteries. He solves large-scale mysteries like other adult detectives. However, to maintain his cover, he takes advantage of his condition and pretends to be a normal child.
6. L. Lawliet is the greatest detective in the world
L is the greatest detective in Death Note. He has solved many cases over the years, starting his career at a very young age. The only case that truly challenges him is the investigation into Kira, a case that quickly becomes personal when L realizes that Kira and he are too stubborn to give up or admit defeat.
L quickly discovers that Kira is in Japan. Collaborating with a special task force on-site, L uncovers that Kira is Light Yagami, and that he is using the sinister Death Note to kill people. However, he struggles to prove it. This sets the stage for one of the greatest rivalries in all of shōnen anime.
5. Sora and Shiro are unmatched when playing games
Sora and Shiro are half-siblings and the online game character known as Blank. They usually play as a single character in all the games they play on the internet. They are so close to each other that they are impossible to beat, at the cost of an incredible co-dependence.
Sora and Shiro are both excellent strategists. They can anticipate moves dozens of steps ahead and predict outcomes with almost absolute precision. They have never lost a single game together and represent an unstoppable force in the Imanity video game universe. Both Sora and Shiro are incredibly intelligent, but together, their intelligence becomes even more powerful, placing them among the smartest anime characters of all time, surpassed only by a few true geniuses.
4. Koro-Sensei had a brilliant plan and taught his students a lot
It takes a genius to destroy the moon and become a teacher, all to help struggling students who don't fit the norm. Yet, this is exactly what Koro-sensei does in Assassination Classroom. Although he is an invincible monster with a myriad of powers, Koro-sensei spends his time changing his students' lives.
Koro-sensei's plan is as beautiful as it is complex. It all culminates in an ending that deeply moves Assassination Classroom fans, especially since they followed him through two seasons of subtle clues and revelations. Koro-sensei was the hero his students needed from the very beginning.
3. Kiyotaka Ayanokoji is much smarter than he lets on
The protagonist of Classroom of the Elite, Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, is one of the students in Class D at the prestigious Koudo Ikusei High School. Although he is in the worst class, Ayanokoji seems to have an ulterior motive for his presence. He often wears a cynical expression, but viewers know that he hides a much deeper secret that no one else has discovered yet.
Despite this, Ayanokoji uses his superior intelligence to help Class D reach the top. Although he typically intervenes at the last minute, fans can always tell that he has been three steps ahead of everyone else. Ayanokoji is not one to flaunt his intelligence. Instead, he stays in the shadows until the right moment.
2. Light Yagami is the cunning genius who ruled the world under the name Kira
In the hands of anyone else, the user of the Death Note would have been quickly identified and apprehended. However, Light Yagami, the brilliant antihero, continues killing for years, despite L's intelligence confirming his presence in Japan. It is only due to Light's pride and underestimation of other genius characters like Near that he is defeated.
In any case, it's clear that no other character in the Death Note universe could have had such a profound social impact as Light, had they been given the same tools. Time and time again, Light skillfully outwitted the best investigators in the world, often using them against each other and bewildering them with his ingenious tricks, all while striving to dominate the world under the identity of Kira. Light's astounding genius makes him one of the smartest anime characters of all time.
1. Lelouch vi Britannia turned a resistance group into a legitimate threat to an empire
Lelouch vi Britannia is one of the most formidable strategic minds in anime history. At first, he seemed like a simple high school student. However, once he acquired the power of Geass, it became clear that he was capable of much more than his appearance suggested.
Thanks to the power of Geass, Lelouch was able to transform a group of rebels into a legitimate threat against the Britannian Empire. His ability to control people's memories was an additional asset; however, Lelouch's true talent lay in his ability to predict his opponent's moves. Because of this, he often demonstrated his skill at outwitting enemies who, otherwise, should have defeated him. Even his mecha, the Shinkiro, required enough intelligence to process and interpret large amounts of data at high speed. Lelouch managed to outsmart not just the Britannian Empire, but the entire world, making him the smartest anime protagonist of all time.
