Some of these manga are incredibly popular because female creators often focus on the emotional depth of their stories. While that’s not always the case, it’s a common trend in manga written by women. Many of the best manga—whether shōnen, shōjo, or otherwise—are created by women and celebrated worldwide.

10. Kei Sasuga treats her Domestic Girlfriend characters like her own children

Kei Sasuga is the mangaka behind Domestic Girlfriend. She has stated that every character in her story carries a part of herself, which makes the series deeply personal—even with a male lead. She aimed to remain neutral between the two love interests of her protagonist and admitted to considering fan opinions when developing Domestic Girlfriend.

Sasuga didn’t always have confidence in her manga skills, but thinking about the regrets she might have had pushed her to pursue the path. Over the years, she’s created several manga and one-shots. She finished Domestic Girlfriend in 2020 but continues to write and draw today.

Jun Mochizuki has written several male-led manga series, including Pandora Hearts and The Case Study of Vanitas. 8. Kazune Kawahara and Aruko teamed up to create My Love Story!!

Kazune Kawahara has written many romance-focused manga throughout her career. Her most internationally recognized work is My Love Story!!, a charming and heartfelt romance that reflects her passion for love stories. For this title, she partnered with illustrator Aruko to bring the story to life.

Aruko, already a fan of Kawahara’s work, eagerly joined the project when asked to handle the artwork. Together, they created one of the most beloved romantic tales in manga. Aruko later went on to illustrate another love story, My Love Mix-Up!, which began serialization in 2019.

7. Kazue Kato fulfilled her dream by creating Blue Exorcist
