Kentaro Miura's Anime, Berserk, features some of the most beautifully illustrated fight sequences in the medium.
Kentaro Miura's Berserk is widely acclaimed for many reasons, one of which is its intense fight scenes. This dark fantasy epic follows Guts and co. on a resonant, character-driven journey, but not without a host of demons and beastly monsters along the way.
Although the Anime is still in print, it features a multitude of striking battles filled with violent spectacle. Thanks to Miura's incredibly meticulous illustrations and the emotional weight behind these sequences, Guts' battles against Zodd the Immortal and Emperor Ganishka are still highlights of the series today.

5/ Nosferatu Zodd's first appearance
One of Berserk fans' favorite thieves, Nosferatu Zodd is also one of the series' most fearsome. Shrouded in mystery, this fearsome Aspotle first appears in spectacular fashion in the Golden Age arc, fighting on behalf of the opposing Midland army.
His moral ambiguity is intriguing, reappearing only when a notable battle leads to Guts and Griffith. The stage was set for this 2v1, as the duo fight in a dark citadel after Zodd has slaughtered nearly 50 of the Hawks. Bloody spectacle aside, it was also one of the first examples of Guts and Griffith fighting to the death.
4/ Revenge against Griffith

Berserk is one of the most remarkable seinen mangas, partly because of its nuanced characters. Similarly, Guts and Griffith have one of the most complex dynamics in the Anime, and the latter end of the Golden Age saw a dramatic upheaval in this relationship.
Griffith's infatuation with Guts stemmed from the fact that he was the closest person to his equal, and the way he could manipulate him. That's what made their rematch so powerful, because Guts no longer wanted to exist solely for someone else's dream. A duel is how Griffith initially bought Guts' loyalty, but this picturesque fight was a milestone for the latter.
3/ Fight with Serpico
He may seem reserved, but Serpico is a ranged power in combat. He started out as Guts' opponent, much like Farnese, the two having fought twice. Both were exciting affairs, but their first fight was particularly tense.
This was due to the high-stakes battlefield, as they fought along a cliff. Serpico is an excellent foil to Guts' fighting style, which makes the rivalry just as interesting. The former is highly methodical and tactical when fighting enemies larger than himself, while Guts' strength and adaptability are powerful counters.
2/ The Grunbeld dragon knight

Griffith is one of the most compelling villains in anime and manga, and he surrounds himself with equally formidable subordinates. Zodd is the most popular, but Grunbeld still occupies a high place in Griffith's echelon of apostles.
Grunbeld led Griffith's forces in an assault on the mage Flora and, like the fight on Sword Hill, this duel was significant as the debut of the Berserker armor. Flame Dragon Knight's brute force almost killed Guts, forcing him to surrender some of his inner darkness in the armor to defeat him.

It's true that the Black Swordsman and Zodd the Immortal are often pitted against each other. But that's why the fight against the Apostle Emperor Ganishka was so important.
Guts' group and Griffith's Falcon gang have their hands full with Emperor Kushan's revolt, forcing them to form an unlikely - and difficult - alliance. It's easy for manga and anime to fall into the trap of cheap fanservice, but seeing Guts mount Zodd and pierce Ganishka's ethereal form with the Dragon Slayer was cathartic and well-deserved.
