Ranking of the 10 Bravest Characters in Solo Leveling

Ranking of the 10 Bravest Characters in Solo Leveling

Courage is not a rare trait among the characters in Solo Leveling. Most of them are frequently faced with terrifying situations, yet they persevere nonetheless.

Despite the danger, they continue to take risks sometimes because the rewards are worth it, and sometimes because they have no choice. As a result, identifying the bravest characters in the series can be quite challenging. There isn't a single character who doesn’t face adversity, but some endure far greater trials than others.

Few S-Rank hunters appear on this list. While they often perform brave acts and put themselves in danger, S-Rank hunters are far better equipped than most other characters. Their confidence is well earned. So far, the anime hasn’t shown many S-Rank hunters in moments of doubt or vulnerability. Flashbacks from Jeju Island hint at the danger the upcoming Jeju Island Raid arc will bring. However, until a conflict of that magnitude unfolds, the anime hasn’t depicted most S-Rank hunters demonstrating truly remarkable courage.

10. Park Heejin blindly chose to follow Jinwoo
Hunter Rank: B

Park Heejin is far from being a weak B-Rank hunter. However, her decision to take the risk of following Sung Jinwoo during the Red Gate arc is truly remarkable. On one hand, he was clearly much stronger than all the other hunters present. On the other, he was a complete unknown, and she had no real reason to trust him. He could have been a terrible person, yet she still put her fate in his hands. She was lucky things turned out well.

Heejin doesn’t appear much in the anime afterward, but she clearly expressed her intent to keep an eye on Jinwoo. She has the courage to seek him out despite his overwhelming strength and abilities. She also played a key role in informing the White Tiger Guild about what happened inside the Red Gate, making her a genuinely useful character overall.

9. Cha Hae-In puts herself in danger to protect others
Hunter Rank: S

Cha Hae-In is a powerful S-Rank hunter, but she never hesitates to take risks for the sake of others. While the miners stood watch at the gate, she skipped her lunch break to monitor the boss room. She alone stood between the lower-ranked miners and an incredibly dangerous magical creature. As an S-Rank, she may have been able to defeat the boss alone, but survival was far from guaranteed.

Recognizing the threat, Hae-In later followed Jinwoo and Assault Team B to the High Orc Gate. Despite its misleading name, everyone outside could feel the powerful magical energy it emitted. Still, she entered to offer help. She did so without armor or weapons—just a pickaxe. The gate had to be cleared, and she was ready to do whatever it took.

8. Lee Joohee is more afraid than any other character
Hunter Rank: B

No other character in the anime has been as frightened and traumatized by dungeons as Lee Joohee. Even before the series began, the gates terrified her. However, her strength compels her to enter them anyway. Thanks to this, she saves Jinwoo’s life more than once. Joohee proves that fear doesn’t disappear with power. During the Double Dungeon incident, her fear leaves her vulnerable, yet she still saves Jinwoo.

Solo Leveling : en quoi consiste réellement la classe Monarque des Ombres ?

Joohee tries to return to hunting after the Double Dungeon but is deeply affected by the experience. Despite this, her courage is admirable. She also confirms Chiyul’s lie to help Jinwoo. In the end, she makes the responsible decision to retire from hunting. As much as her healing powers are valuable, choosing to step away from the gates and grow in other ways—despite external pressure—is a brave and wise decision.

7. Woo Jinchul isn’t intimidated by anyone
Hunter Rank: A

Woo Jinchul is a powerful man, both as an A-Rank hunter and as Chief Inspector of the Korean Hunters Association’s Surveillance Team. He serves as Go Gunhee’s right-hand man. His job requires him to interact with hunters of all ranks, including those stronger than him. Jinchul stands by his principles no matter who he’s dealing with. Regardless of the threat, he always puts his duty first.

Lee Minsung is the same rank as Jinchul but is a famous actor from a powerful family. Jinchul had no issue calling him out when Minsung tried to abuse his influence. Hwang Dongsoo is a violent S-Rank hunter who enjoys killing. Still, Jinchul doesn’t back down. He even steps between Baek Yoonho and Dongsoo during a confrontation. His arms remained intact only because they held back at the last moment. He knows they’re much stronger than him, yet he prioritized stopping their fight above all.

6. Sung Il-Hwan was a hunter long before Solo Leveling season 1
Hunter Rank: S

Sung Il-Hwan is incredibly strong now. He easily defeated Dongsoo, placing him among the higher tier of S-Rank hunters. While he’s clearly affected by his time inside the gates, he has little left to fear. His greatest concern now seems to be his family, whom he still cherishes deeply despite all that has happened. However, he awakened much earlier than most other hunters in the series, which means he operated under vastly different circumstances.

Even though hunting is still a dangerous profession, it’s much safer now than it used to be. Hunters today have tools to measure their power and assess gate difficulty. Il-Hwan was never officially ranked because that system didn’t exist back then. With far less information available, entering a gate was even riskier in his day. And yet, he continued his work as a hunter—something he ultimately paid a heavy price for.

5. Son Kihoon fought the Orcs knowing he would probably die
Hunter Rank: A

Son Kihoon is the leader of the Hunter Guild's Assault Team B, the second strongest team in the guild. They are reliable and principled hunters who prioritize the safety of their comrades over fame or wealth. They often clear high-ranking gates and have the strength to do so confidently. However, they are completely outmatched by the High Orcs—and they know it. Still, they risk everything to protect Jinwoo.

When faced with Kargalgan, Kihoon steps forward to confront him. It might seem like a desperate act, but against such overwhelming power, it is the only move he can make to try and turn the tide. Kihoon is fully aware of how weak he is compared to Kargalgan. He also knows his team has no chance of survival. By stepping up, he proves his resolve. He is lucky Jinwoo is there to save the team—otherwise, he would have died.

4. Ahn Sangmin has already been threatened by Jinwoo
Hunter Rank: N/A

Ahn Sangmin is not even a hunter. He works in the management team of the White Tiger Guild, dedicated to recruiting elite hunters and navigating the internal power struggles. While scouting Jinwoo, he gets openly threatened by him—but still chooses to help again later. Surrounded by people far stronger than himself, Sangmin often faces danger head-on.

Jinwoo is not the only hunter to threaten him. Dongsoo nearly kills Sangmin to get information on Jinwoo. Even without Yoonho’s interference, Sangmin never suggested he would betray Jinwoo. After Dongsoo left, he calmly returned to work, despite being stuck between two of the most terrifying hunters. Sangmin remains composed and determined even after these intense encounters.

3. Song Chiyul continues to hunt with only one arm
Hunter Rank: C

Song Chiyul was unlucky during his awakening. Though he was a respected swordsman, he became a mage-type hunter. That didn’t stop him from gaining popularity among low-rank hunters. His age and wisdom earned him enough respect to help decide whether or not to enter the Double Dungeon. Chiyul voted to go and lost an arm because of that decision. But he didn’t lose his life.

Solo Leveling:ARISE Preview: "Surprisingly Deep Tactical Options"

Despite the handicap, Chiyul remains an active hunter. Losing an arm weakened his swordsmanship, but he played a key role during the aftermath of the “Dungeon and Prisoners” arc. He even lies to the Hunter Association to protect Jinwoo. Calm in the face of danger, Chiyul remains skilled enough to be a valuable mentor to Haein.

2. Yoo Jinho proves that intelligence is just as important as strength
Hunter Rank: D

Yoo Jinho is completely out of his depth in the world of hunters. He doesn’t always know what awaits behind a gate, but he believes his expensive armor will keep him safe. While it offers some protection against monsters, it’s less useful against other hunters. Though relatively weak, Jinho still aspires to lead a guild—and boldly tells his father he plans to leave his current one.

His most courageous moment comes when he stands up to the hunters planning to betray him. Jinho didn’t yet know how powerful Jinwoo truly was, but he trusted him and himself. He showed conviction in the face of danger. He also continues working with Jinwoo even after watching him wipe out other hunters, a terrifying event for someone like Jinho. Despite the horror, his loyalty and bravery remain firm.

1. Sung Jinwoo was an E-rank hunter for four years
Hunter Rank: S

Sung Jinwoo is on track to become the strongest hunter in the world. Now officially ranked S, he no longer fears being manipulated by others. Most threats from hunters or magical beasts no longer impress him. Yet, he spent four years as the weakest hunter. Constantly injured and poorly equipped, he still kept entering dungeons and fighting. Everything was stronger than him, but he never backed down.

Jinwoo’s fearlessness now stems from surviving something far worse: the Statue of God. Even nearly dying in the Demon Castle doesn't compare. In the Double Dungeon, where the Statue resides, Jinwoo kept fighting to survive. The hunters who lived did so because he interpreted the clues correctly. Despite overwhelming fear, he acted. Even on the brink of death, he kept pushing forward earning the System as a result.
