MHA's sixth season of anime changed everything for villains, professional heroes and what it all means for society as a whole.
The hit shonen anime My Hero Academia enjoyed a solid Season 6, airing from December 2022 to April 2023 for a total of 25 episodes. During this period, virtually everything changed for the world of Deku and all the main characters, making season 6 an important turning point for the entire saga. The heroes' society and the lives of many major characters were thrown into chaos as shocking truths, brutal deaths and vital flashback sequences unfolded.
Season 6 began on an optimistic note, with all the professional heroes and their students reuniting to take on the Paranormal Liberation Front and, hopefully, end the war of the great heroes against the villains as soon as it began. Then disaster struck, and all hell broke loose. The end of season 6 promises that when the seventh season of My Hero Academia airs, it will be a whole new ballgame, with sinister new stakes and challenges for protagonist Izuku Midoriya/Deku and his friends to overcome - or else.

My Hero Academia has blurred the line between hero and villain
Even if My Hero Academia isn't a total deconstruction of superhero fiction and isn't a predominantly subversive animated series, its 6th season has still deconstructed the idea of professional heroes to a significant extent. Until then, the comparison between professional heroes and villains had been almost cartoonish, with noble peacekeepers like All Might and Eraserhead on one side and twisted criminals like Tomura Shigaraki, hero-killer Stain and yandere Himiko Toga on the other. Yet these earlier seasons hinted that the lines would be blurred in the future, and season 6 was the reward. Even the fresh-faced, likeable #2 hero, Hawks, plunged into his dark side to outright kill the villainous Twice in cold blood, and by then Twice had become a fan favorite with a sympathetic backstory. Hawks was almost the villain in this scene, and he wasn't alone.
Hero #1 Endeavour was also feeling meaner than ever, with Dabi introducing himself as Toya Todoroki , the first-born son of Enji and Rei Todoroki. Endeavour had pushed his eldest son too far with high expectations which, in short, led to Toya's imminent death and his rebirth as the vengeful villain Dabi. This revelation turned audiences against Endeavour and many other professional heroes like him, calling into question the entire hero society and its rules. Along the way, season 6 helped humanize Twice and even Dabi, not forgetting Tomura Shigaraki himself via flashbacks. These characters made the choice to become villains and their crimes could not be easily forgiven, but fans could still see the human beings in these villain costumes, while also seeing the villainous side of the heroes, turning the whole hero-versus-villain paradigm on its head. head.
This allowed My Hero Academia's 6th anime season to introduce an intriguing theme that the original manga would develop in later chapters. Unfortunately, the entire hero society rested on a paradox that no one on either side could resolve to everyone's benefit. For generations, the hero society had needed a clear definition of who a hero was and what they stood for. So, by definition, anyone who opposes the heroes or plays by different rules is at best an outcast and at worst a wicked villain.
Thus, the heroes have created their worst enemy simply by existing, so they must defeat these villains to protect society, thus pushing the villains to fight again as oppressed people rejected by the dominant system. A society that labels people as winners and losers by definition is doomed to collapse at considerable humanitarian cost, and season 6 of the anime set this in motion. The paradox has created deep cracks in the foundations of the system, and the situation will only get worse from here. Characters like Toya, Endeavour, Twice and Hawks are just the beginning.
Season 6 makes My Hero Academia's best fights more personal
Some of the fights and feuds in previous My Hero Academia anime seasons were personal, like Deku and his shonen rival Bakugo clashing violently or Hitoshi Shinso trying to prove his worth as a potential student hero despite his villainous alter. But in season 6, the best fights were more personal than ever as heroes and villains clashed, including key characters like Deku, Endeavour, Tomura Shigaraki and Dabi/Toya. Until then, Deku's fight against villainy was mainly commercial, such as saving Eri from Overhaul or preventing Gentle Criminal from disrupting the UA school festival. In season 6, Tomura is reborn as Deku's greatest rival and counterpart, and his flashback scenes prove that he really is Deku's dark mirror. He had his own symbolic mentor, All For One, who raised him as a successor, and only Deku or Tomura will achieve their ends as the struggle for the future of society reaches its end.
Deku isn't just fighting the bad guys to save the day here. Season 6 made it clear that he was fighting the villains' own Deku, and when they clash again, they'll almost be fighting themselves as a proxy fight between All For One and All Might. Previous anime seasons suggested that Deku and Tomura would become the final champions of their respective teams in a fatal battle, and season 6 laid the groundwork for this. They even share a fighting trait, each having a whole set of alters to work with as miniature All For One fighters. Tomura actually used the power of AFO to be like this, and Deku has the built-in quirks of One For All to become more powerful.

As for the other My Hero Academia characters, it's possible that Endeavour and his youngest son Shoto Todoroki will face off against Dabi/Toya in upcoming episodes not only to remove a villain from the equation, but also to redeem a member of their family or put them out of their misery. for good. The Todoroki family can't heal and move on until Toya is resolved, one way or another.
Deku cracks under pressure from One For All
Protagonist Izuku Midoriya/Deku had a tough time in season 6, and not just fighting the bad guys. He has become the child of destiny as the last bearer of One For All, since he alone has the power to defeat Tomura Shigaraki and All For One. In return, he is the villains' biggest target, and all this led Deku to believe that he had to hurry up and fight this final battle alone. And he was wrong.
Deku became his vigilante "Dark Deku" in season 6, unwilling to involve his classmates in the final battle and risk all their lives. Deku's protective, altruistic ways had reached a negative extreme, prompting his classmates to pursue him and make sense of him. The character of Dark Deku has now disappeared since the season 6 finale, but this sequence is still an ominous sign that All Might has placed too great a burden on a boy without alter, straining his mind and body with a destiny for which no one is really ready. . Deku is now in a race not only against Tomura Shigaraki, but against his own internal clock. He must face his sworn enemy and win before One For All and the weight of destiny crush him and wipe out with him the last hope of the hero society.
