One Piece: Is Luffy stronger than Shamrock Figarland?

Monkey D. Luffy became a Yonko after defeating Kaido in battle, making him one of the most powerful pirate captains in One Piece.

He can now fight on equal terms with some of the strongest characters in One Piece, but it is unclear whether Luffy is currently strong enough to defeat Shamrock Figarland. Shamrock is already recognized as a major antagonist in the Elbaph arc of One Piece, which means he and Luffy will eventually come to blows.

Luffy has defeated many powerful opponents throughout the history of One Piece, but none reached the level of Shamrock. Despite possessing a Devil Fruit, Luffy's power seems to be comparable to that of a Yonko, or even surpassed by Shamrock's. Currently, a battle between Luffy and Shamrock could very well end with Luffy's defeat if he doesn't act carefully.

Monkey D. Luffy Ring - One Piece™

Luffy possesses the power of a god who fights for freedom.

He is gradually becoming one of the most powerful Haki users in One Piece.

For two decades, One Piece fans believed Luffy had eaten the Gum-Gum Fruit, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that turns its user’s body into rubber. However, the Wano Arc revealed that he had actually eaten the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into Nika, the legendary Sun God with a rubbery body who brought joy and freedom wherever he went. The World Government kept the true name of this fruit a secret because it represents a major threat to their reign.

In his standard form, Luffy can stretch his limbs to their maximum, allowing him to grab objects and deliver powerful punches and kicks. His Gum-Gum Gatling technique is especially useful, unleashing a barrage of rapid punches. The Gum-Gum Pistol is a unique, stretched-out punch, powerful enough to knock out a Sea King. Luffy's Gear 2 technique enhances his speed and mobility to nearly superhuman levels by increasing the blood flow to his organs and blood vessels. With this enhanced speed, all of Luffy's physical attacks deal significantly more damage. This technique is akin to doping and is said to shorten Luffy’s lifespan, but he is able to overwhelm his opponents with high-speed attacks.

By using Gear 3, Luffy can inflate his bone structure to massively enlarge certain parts of his body. These giant limbs can deal heavy damage to a single opponent but can also eliminate multiple lower-level enemies at once. Both of these techniques had temporary side effects, but Luffy overcame them during the time skip with his training.

Luffy learned to properly use Haki during the time skip and has become one of the most powerful users in One Piece. He is one of the few in the world who can master all three types of Haki, along with their advanced applications. With Observation Haki, Luffy can sense the presence, emotions, and intentions of others, and he can now briefly see into the future, making it much easier to dodge attacks.

Luffy can harden his body with Armament Haki, boosting both his defensive and offensive capabilities, and he can compress this Haki into a special coating that resembles flames.

Luffy's Armament Haki is so powerful that it can protect him from attacks by formidable fighters like Doflamingo, Katakuri, and Kaido. His advanced Armament Haki allows him to use the Haki in his fists, and when combined with Gear 3, he can injure a nearly invulnerable Yonko like Kaido. Thanks to Conqueror’s Haki, Luffy can knock out 50,000 low-level pirates with a single burst. He unlocked advanced Conqueror’s Haki during the Wano Arc and can infuse it into his arms, legs, and body. Luffy can now combine Armament Haki and Conqueror’s Haki, and he can split the heavens when facing a Yonko-level opponent.

Fortunately, Luffy masters Haki, because without it, he would never have unlocked Gear 4, which requires him to coat most of his body with Armament Haki. With Gear 4 Boundman, Luffy inflates his Haki-infused muscles while his body becomes more spherical. He turns into a rubber ball with impressive defense, as most attacks bounce off him. With Gear 4 Snakeman, defense is sacrificed for speed, but Luffy can quickly change the direction of his attacks, allowing him to strike an opponent from all angles.

Gear 5 is the awakening of Luffy’s Devil Fruit, considered the most incredible power in the world, as Luffy can fight with complete freedom. He can inflate and stretch his body at will, and he can interact with his environment and others as if they were made of rubber.

This power allowed Luffy to turn Kaido's beast-dragon form into a jump rope. With Gear 5, Luffy can fight on equal terms with Admiral Kizaru and his Logia powers, and he can produce gigantic fists imbued with Haki, powerful enough to defeat a Yonko. The only drawback with Gear 5 is that Luffy can only use it for a short period, and he is left in a severely weakened state once the limit is reached. Gear 5 seems to be Luffy’s ultimate power, but the Intellectual incident proved that some individuals are likely as powerful as this Awakening state.

Shamrock is a powerful Celestial Dragon who can truly fight.

He wields a special Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit.

The Celestial Dragons consider themselves gods, as their ancestors founded the World Government 800 years ago. However, most of them are weak, privileged individuals who rely on others to fight by their side. Shamrock is a Celestial Dragon from the Figarland family and serves as the Commander of the Knights of the Gods. This elite guard oversees the other Celestial Dragons of Mary Geoise and can be considered the most powerful warriors of the World Government. Shamrock is the son of Garling Figarland, the former Supreme Commander of the Knights of the Gods.

After the Intellectual incident, Shamrock was promoted to the position of the Five Elders, assuming the title of Warrior God of Science and Defense. The Elbaph Arc also revealed that Shamrock is the twin brother of Shanks. One Piece creator, Eiichiro Oda, stated that Shanks is the most powerful Haki user of the current generation, and given that each of the Five Elders possesses incredibly powerful Haki, Garling's is likely just as formidable. Upon his first appearance in Elbaph, Shamrock was surrounded by black lightning, indicating that he possessed Advanced Conqueror's Haki, fitting of his rank and lineage.

Unlike Shanks, Shamrock possesses the power of a Devil Fruit, but he does not suffer from the usual weaknesses of Devil Fruits, as he did not eat it himself. His weapon of choice is a single-edged longsword named Cerberus, which holds the power of a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit inspired by the legendary three-headed dog from Greek mythology.

When Cerberus is fully transformed, it becomes a monstrous dog with sharp teeth and three necks covered in collars. A scarf of black smoke can be seen around its body, indicating that Cerberus has awakened its Devil Fruit. All Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruits grant enhanced durability, but Cerberus is even more resistant than most, as its original sword form is made of steel. When it attacks, Cerberus can generate a large blade from each of its mouths, and for an unknown reason, each of its heads can detach and launch toward an opponent simultaneously for a three-pronged attack.

Shamrock is unquestionably a master swordsman, and his Cerberus is powerful enough to severely injure a giant as strong as Loki. Admittedly, Loki was tied to a tree at the time and unable to use his Devil Fruit, but Cerberus was still able to pierce his body. However, according to Shamrock, Loki would have lost even if he were free. Shanks faced Whitebeard, the world's strongest man, and was able to defeat Kaido and his nearly invincible body using only his Haki.

Shamrock is considered to be as powerful as Shanks, making him a Yonko-level threat. Cerberus's beastly form can attack in place of Shamrock, and he can also imbue his sword with Conqueror's Haki, which likely allows him to cut through almost anything. In fact, Shamrock is probably capable of defeating someone like Eustass Kid, a pirate with a bounty of 3 billion berries, with a single blow, just like Shanks.

A battle between Luffy and Shamrock would be more balanced than fans might think.

Luffy vs. Shamrock would be a fight between Mythical Zoan and Haki users.

Many One Piece fans likely think that Luffy holds a major advantage over Shamrock due to his Devil Fruit, but that may not necessarily be the case. A powerful Haki user can face nearly any Devil Fruit, as seen when Gol D. Roger fought Whitebeard and the Tremor Fruit. Silvers Rayleigh stopped Marco's Mythical Zoan with a single finger infused with Haki, and Zoro defeated Devil Fruit users like Pica, Rob Lucci, and King thanks to his Haki.

During the Egghead Incident, Saint Topman Warcury, one of the Five Elders, negatively affected Luffy's Gear 5 transformation with a Haki roar, showing that Haki attacks still work on Luffy’s Awakened Devil Fruit. If Shamrock’s Haki is as powerful as Shanks’ Haki, he can certainly injure Luffy. While Luffy’s body may be made of rubber, he can still be hurt by sharp weapons, especially when they are extremely powerful.

One Piece Chapter #1139 Release Date and Time

Charlotte Cracker was a Yonko commander, and he managed to pierce Luffy’s Gear 4 arm infused with Haki with his sword. Kaido was also able to injure Luffy in Gear 5 with his spiked war club. Shamrock’s Haki-infused attacks would likely be strong enough to pierce Luffy’s body. It’s even highly probable that he could sever a limb with a direct strike. Cerberus could also deal significant damage to Luffy, as its awakened form uses multiple blades.

Luffy's Gear 4 and Gear 5 Snakeman would be the best options for him against Shamrock, as both rely on Haki, enhanced speed, and unpredictable movements. However, Shamrock could reasonably match Snakeman’s speed if his Observation Haki is as advanced as Shanks’. Gear 5 would give Luffy a territorial advantage, and he could possibly bounce Cerberus’ beastly form like a rubber ball if the sharp sword doesn’t land a decisive blow during the first exchange. If Luffy manages to catch Shamrock, he could treat his body like a pool noodle, but this effect could theoretically be reversed if Shamrock releases enough Haki in one burst.

When Luffy in Gear 5 defeated Kaido, he used a technique called Gum-Gum Bajrang Gun, which produces a fist the size of a small island and combines Advanced Armament and Conqueror’s Haki. So far, Gum-Gum Bajrang Gun is Luffy’s most powerful attack, and it would undoubtedly crush Shamrock if it landed directly. That said, Luffy must remain cautious, as Shamrock could counteract Luffy's Observation Haki with his Advanced Conqueror’s Haki. This is a capability Shanks can use, and if Shamrock also has access to it, he could land an ultra-fast Haki strike that Luffy might not be able to dodge in time.

Luffy and Shamrock will inevitably face off on Elbaph, and since they are two of the most powerful characters in One Piece, the battle is likely to shake the kingdom. Shamrock’s Haki makes him a very dangerous fighter, and if he uses his Devil Fruit sword, Luffy will be facing two opponents in one. The Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika, offers Luffy a variety of forms and techniques, and Gear 5 has pushed his power to the next level.

Unfortunately, Luffy is still beatable, and Shamrock’s Haki and swordsmanship could provide the ideal counterattack. In reality, Luffy could probably defeat Shamrock at his current level, but only under certain circumstances. If Shamrock and Shanks have similar Haki, he could technically defeat Luffy with one or two strikes. Luffy vs. Shamrock will be an incredible fight, but they are close enough in strength that either one could win. However, the situation would strongly favor Luffy if he unlocks a new power on Elbaph.
