The best theories about the end of My Hero Academia

The best theories about the end of My Hero Academia

Throughout MHA's run, fans have created many theories about the hit series, but as MHA nears its end, many of these theories have been proven wrong.

These days, fans of any show, movie or story express their theories. Elements such as character deaths and plot progression are all discussed at length among fans, and My Hero Academia is no different. Since the anime's debut in 2016, audiences have speculated about many elements of the series. While there are still several theories that have yet to be determined, some have been officially debunked by the anime.

Fans' long-held suspicions about certain characters and their roles in the story have been dispelled now that the majority of Kohei Horikoshi's work has been brought to the screen. Even if previous theories have been proven wrong, viewers still like to sift through what they know to draw their own conclusions, especially when it comes to epic hero tales like My Hero Academia.

5/ Shigaraki was born with his Alter

 Discover our Shigaraki figure

Tomura Shigaraki is a particularly horrifying character, not only in terms of his appearance and actions, but also because of his Decay Quirk. His power to disintegrate anything is both nauseating and terrifying. With such a despicable alter, viewers thought that All for One had endowed Shigaraki with his power and shaped him to become his successor.

However, the anime confirmed at the end of season five that Shigaraki had been born with his alter, and this manifested itself in one of the worst ways imaginable. All For One only took in Shigaraki (then called Tenko Shimura) so that he could use Shigaraki's powerful alter in the future. Now, Shigaraki and All For One form an almost unstoppable force that only grows stronger.

4/ Dark Shadow could have been a Nomu

 Discover our Fumikage Figure

Fumikage Tokoyami's alter, Dark Shadow, is a particularly bizarre power, as he can summon a living, thinking shadow that is almost independent of himself. Because of Dark Shadow's appearance - a figure with glowing yellow eyes and a dark, purplish body - some audiences thought that Dark Shadow was really a Nomu attached to Tokoyami. Fans also speculated that Tokoyami might be using Dark Shadow to collect and send information about UA back to All For One.

While an interesting concept, Tokoyami and Dark Shadow are nothing more than loyal - even quirky - professional heroes-in-training eager to prove themselves. The duo particularly show their true heroic colors when they return to the fray at Jaku Hospital to save the Hawks from Dabi's incinerating flames.

3/ The public theorized that people without Alters were myths

My Hero Academia: L'existence d'Eri prouve la théorie de singularité des Alter

My Hero Academia's Hero Society is filled with so many people with superpowers that those who don't have an alter are considered strange. Yet the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, claims he has no alter at the start of the series. Audiences didn't entirely believe Midoriya's insistence on this fact, especially after he received One For All and learned to wield all the other alters with terrifying efficiency, given that he was wiping his arms when he first had One For All.

Yet, as will be explained later, Izuku and All Might really had no alter - not even a latent one - for if they had, the alters would have interfered with One For All in one way or another. Having an alter also affects the wearer's lifespan, which also plays a role in more recent seasons of My Hero Academia.

2/ The best Jeanist could have become a Nomu

My Hero Academia : 10 faits à connaître à propos de Best Jeanist

Despite Hawks' sympathetic nature, fans were immediately suspicious of him when he met Dabi to show him Best Jeanist's body. Many viewers feared that Best Jeanist was really dead and thought that the League of Villains would use his body to create another Nomu.

Fortunately, Best Jeanist never died, returning to battle in epic fashion during the Arc of War. Some audiences think the story would have had more impact if Bakugo had had to fight a villainous version of his former mentor, but most people are simply happy that the most fashionable Pro Hero is still well enough to fight the enemy.

1/ Izuku's alter could have been stolen

This particular theory is adjacent to the idea that people without alter don't exist. After realizing that Dr. Garaki was Midoriya's childhood doctor, the public hypothesized that he had stolen Midoriya's alter and given it to someone else. The two beliefs born of this theory were that Bakugo or Dabi had received Midoriya's alter, since Izuku's father, Hisashi, had a fire-breathing alter.

However, both theories have been debunked by the anime, since Bakugo's explosion alter and Dabi's inability to handle his flame alter are both the result of genetics. Nevertheless, it's an interesting theory that could have had far-reaching consequences had it been true.
