Kurisu Makise

Kurisu Makise

Kurisu Makise is the daughter of Shouichi Makise, a genius girl who graduated from college at the age of seventeen and is a member of the Brain Science Institute of Viktor Chondria University and the Future Gadget Lab.

Kurisu is one of the main characters in Steins;Gate and a major posthumous character in Steins;Gate 0 via Amadeus. She is briefly mentioned in Chaos;Child, and she communicates via the Twitter of the universe ( Twipo ) in Robotics;Notes and Robotics;Notes DaSH.

Appearance

Kurisu is a slim young woman with chestnut hair and dull violet eyes. Her hair, which she prefers to let down, ranges from mahogany red tones to auburn. Her hair color differs considerably in the anime (red) from the original VN (chestnut), although it is only artistic in appearance. The "Kuri" part of her name means chestnut, and her hair color is supposed to look like the color of a chestnut.

She has an unusual sense of fashion, with her outfit consisting of a long-sleeved white shirt with blue edges and a red tie. Her shirt is tucked into black shorts over black tights, held up by a white belt with a gold buckle. Her red tie hangs loosely around her collar, and she is wearing a loose khaki jacket that covers her upper thighs, and has black and white straps at the end of both sleeves and hem that are used to hold the entire jacket over her arms. She also wears a pair of black boots that are partially unzipped and folded.

Once "recruited" into the Future Gadgets lab, Okabe gave her Daru's white lab coats which he never uses and is often seen wearing one in the lab. Like Okabe, Kurisu is interested in lab coats.

Personality

Kurisu is generally a sensible and serious mature young woman, usually calm and collected even when someone acts tense in front of her. However, she can also show a much more shy side at times. She is frequently shown to hate being nicknamed, as she dislikes all the names Okabe calls her, with "The Zombie" bothering her the most. Ironically, on the rare occasions when Okabe uses her real name, she takes it as a sign that something is really wrong. Kurisu is also practical and realistic, almost to a fault; Initially, she firmly believes that time machines are fiction and refuses to believe that the Phonewave is one even after seeing it in action, claiming that Okabe had simply seen what he wanted to see. The group needs to research SERN. Kurisu's research on time travel to finally convince Kurisu of the truth. However, in Steins;Gate 0, she doesn't deny the possibility of time machines and would build one herself if she had the materials.

Mature as she is, Kurisu is very sarcastic and often expresses this through her interactions with Okabe and Daru . the former because of his eccentricities and frequent insensitivity and the latter because of his perverse remarks. Apart from these two, she is quite friendly with anyone as long as they don't do inappropriate actions and constantly engage in petty arguments, especially Mayuri, whom she instantly likes unlike the male members of the lab. In general, how Kurisu treats others depends largely on how they treat her; she sometimes says disrespectful things to respectful people, but she is generally kind. She has been repeatedly described as a tsundere by Okabe and Daru, though she gets annoyed whenever someone calls her that, usually by doing something that ironically ends up proving their point.

Kurisu says that she is not good at sports, but she loves swimming. More than liking the pool itself, she likes the feeling of floating in water. Kurisu describes it like being released from gravity, like a load has been taken off your muscles. Swimming puts Kurisu in a good mood, to the point that when Okabe calls her "Assistant", she does not retort towards the name. Kurisu can swim very well, despite Okabe's beliefs in that everyone was a "hikikomori".

Although she is reluctant to admit it, she is a frequent user of the @channel text board and goes by the pseudonym "KuriGohan and Kamehameha". Okabe likes to trick her into admitting this habit, much to her chagrin. When she posts on @channel, her personality is noticeably different, as she often uses netspeak or emoticons to communicate and her posts are usually much less mature than her usual dialogue.

Her accomplishments despite her youth have exposed Kurisu to the jealousy of those who consider themselves her superiors. This includes her own father, who despises her for overshadowing him and causing his fall into obscurity. This is the reason for her acerbic attitude, which she has adopted as a defense mechanism to hide her vulnerabilities. Deep down, Kurisu is a very curious girl who loves science and cannot resist an interesting experiment. She sometimes makes statements - for example, that data collection should be considered before a subject's privacy - that have led Okabe to label her a fellow mad scientist, much to her displeasure.

Although Kurisu is reluctant to admit her feelings for Okabe, she actually likes him. This was shown several times throughout the series, especially when she was drunk.

The death of Kurisu Makise

On July 28, Dr. Nakabachi holds a conference, but is denounced by Okabe Rintaro. Before Rintaro could make more noise at the conference, he was dismissed by Kurisu Makise, who claimed to have run into him 15 minutes earlier. Rintaro resorts to his cell phone, in which he reports to "someone" that he has been caught by an agent of a certain agency. Kurisu manages to snatch his cell phone from him and discovers that it is switched off. In response, Rintaro just gives a goodbye note and sprints downstairs. She is later found by Rintaro lying in a pool of blood, and Rintaro sends a text message to Itaru about it.

However, later, at the Dai building, Rintaro meets her, apparently in perfect health. He "examines" her in an attempt to verify that she is really alive, which he saw as sexual harassment. There was a brief argument until Kurisu had to start the lecture. At the beginning of the seminar, she claims that time machines are impossible, which causes Rintaro to dispute her claim, and she turns the lecture into a discussion.

Kurisu proves victorious, as she uses the intelligence that earned her a spot in the famous academic magazine Sciency to debunk Rintaro's delusions about time travel.

Future Gadget Member #4

July 29, 2010

She sneaks into the Future Gadget Lab with Itaru's help to investigate the phone's microwave (temporary name) and witnesses a banana turn into green gel as a result of Future Gadget's experiments. Kurisu's sudden appearance at Rintaro's "secret headquarters" triggers a new confrontation between the two. Kurisu then shows up again and offers his hand to Rintaro, who reluctantly refuses the handshake, thinking of Kurisu's killing intent.

Kurisu's initial purpose in coming is to confirm that Rintaro's claims that she was killed are true, but the frozen banana she saw changed her focus. She then meets Mayuri, who is happy that the lab now has another female member.

The trio then begins investigations into the Phone Microwave. After an experiment turns out to be fake because Mayuri tried to open the PhoneWave, Okabe declares that it is indeed a time machine, causing Kurisu to protest and run away from the lab.

After running into Kurisu at RadiKan, Okabe asks her why she ran away. She reveals that her father devoted his career to time travel research, while being ostracized by the scientific community, and that she has no intention of making the same mistake he did. He tells her that SERN has been researching time travel for nine years and that they are involved in a conspiracy, which Kurisu rejects as his delusions.

Kurisu has also been trying to research the IBN 5100, and discovers that, as Rintaro explained earlier, the IBN 5100 can in fact interpret previously undocumented proprietary programming languages. Rintaro soon contacts Luka about an old computer possibly located in the shrine where he is staying, and later receives a call from Kurisu. It turns out that Kurisu wants to find Rintaro, and after the brief call, Rintaro is joined by Kurisu at the Yanabanashi shrine. She meets Luka and Okabe introduces her as his assistant, to whom she complains and asks him to introduce her properly. Luka says that Kurisu is almost the same age as him and at the same time looks very mature, to which she responds by complimenting him as cute, ignoring the fact that he is a man. After seeing Luka and his father's interactions and how much he likes his son, Kurisu becomes emotional, mainly because of the problematic relationship she has with her father. After Luka's father lends them the retro PC, Kurisu and Okabe bicker about carrying the 24 kg personal computer from the shrine to the lab. Suzuha notices Kurisu and she suddenly changes, her eyes fixed on Kurisu like a predator having discovered its prey. Fortunately, Mr. Tennouji unexpectedly stops the commotion, even though Kurisu is a little alarmed.

When they arrive at the lab, Mayuri is happy to see Kurisu again, though she also drags Kurisu into a dilemma. whether to leave the Future Gadget Lab permanently or stay and join Mayuri, a dilemma that Rintaro uses to tease Kurisu again.

Nevertheless, with Itaru's growing interest in the IBN 5100, Kurisu decides to proceed with the analysis of the vintage computer.

Later, Mayuri tries to invite Kurisu to the fireworks, but she hesitantly refuses. While Itaru is tinkering with the IBN 5100, Kurisu and Rintaro talk to each other. Out of curiosity, Kurisu tries on Rintaro's lab coat, and seeing another person in a lab coat delights Rintaro, after trying to persuade Itaru and Mayuri to also wear lab coats, but to no avail.

Soon, Kurisu has dinner at the lab - a bowl of ramen cup - and plays a certain trading card game with Rintaro, in which she likes to defeat Rintaro.

Kurisu soon comments that Rintaro is not good at strategy, unexpectedly calling him "Okabe." This makes Rintaro shout in her face and remind her that she should call him "Hououin" or "Kyouma". He didn't notice that he just made Kurisu cry, and even Itaru, busy with his IBN 5100, knows what's going on.

August 1, 2010.

Itaru recovers that the SERN report includes the creation of a utopia and the use of space-time travel to achieve it. However, this involves human experimentation, much to Kurisu's shock. The trio decide to dig deeper and come across reports of these experiments.

Rintaro sees this as a challenge. He plans to continue the project using the Phone Microwave (provisional name) by creating a machine that surpasses SERN's. He warns that Kurisu should stay out of their plans to protect her, but Kurisu refuses.

August 2, 2010

The lab decides to test Kurisu's hypothesis by trying to send a D-mail from Kurisu's phone to Okabe's, as well as creating a banana gel using a banana from one of Mayuri's diets. Kurisu makes another discovery.

August 3, 2010

Rintaro's first plan to change the past is... to win the lottery. Kurisu thinks his plan is lame, and this makes Rintaro angry.

However, at the beginning of another experiment with D-mail, Rintaro seems to be having fun with Kurisu.

After the D-mail was sent, everyone lost their memory as the world line changed, except for Okabe, who was visibly confused. Kurisu deduced that Okabe had immediately used the phone's microwave.

Kurisu is against experiments. Okabe comments that she was all for experiments this past afternoon. When Daru asks when this happened, Kurisu realizes that Okabe has already changed the past by using a D-mail.

Kurisu asks why Okabe was able to retain her memories. Okabe notes that, according to John Titor, he may have the ability to retain his memories when he crosses world lines. Okabe nicknamed the ability "Reading Steiner."

Okabe and Kurisu go to the local park to discuss the current case further. Okabe suggests that Kurisu send the next D-mail, but she refuses. She says that changing the past is unfair: she doesn't want to change anything that made her who she is today. Okabe turns the tables on her, saying that, like a mad scientist, she prefers to watch others take risks while she sits back and watches.

August 4, 2010

After Moeka sends a D-mail as part of the lab experiments, the line of the world changed and no one knew who Moeka was except Okabe. Kurisu discerns from Okabe's actions that they sent another D-mail.

Later in the day, Okabe and Kurisu are seen on the roof, talking about the last D-mail and its effects.

August 5, 2010

Another D-mail experiment is conducted. Luka wants to send a D-mail to make him a girl. This confuses Kurisu, who still thinks Luka is a girl. Okabe tells her to find out for herself, which she does, leaving her completely stunned.

August 6th, 2010

As Okabe heads to the roof to dry some laundry, he sees Kurisu arguing with someone on the phone. Kurisu quickly comes back down and soon confronts Rintaro, pointing out that she's not crying, though it's clear she's upset. Eventually, Kurisu sits down next to Rintaro and breaks down on Mayuri's Oopa pillow.

Although Rintaro can't think of what to do for Kurisu at this point, he tells her that he can listen to her sorrows at any time as someone important to him.

Pessimistic about the Phone Microwave in its current state, Kurisu wants Okabe to take care of his current problems for now. Rintaro stubbornly refuses, finding this task boring, and the disappointed Kurisu reveals her inner "neler" (i.e. @channeler) to Daru and Okabe.

Rintaro realized that the IBN 5100 was missing. Kurisu then explains that the butterfly effect was the explanation for these major changes and one of the well recognized risks of changing the past.

Rintaro then asks where the IBN 5100 is now, and Kurisu corrects the question, "Where was it?"

In another phone wave experiment, Feiris prepares his message and asks Rintaro to send it ten years into the past, and refuses to disclose its contents despite Rintaro's requests. After being pressured to leave the message to Feiris, Rintaro endures the next few minutes of being hung up on by Kurisu, who is supposed to manage the Phone Microwave.

Okabe is forced to act politely just to get Kurisu to operate the phone microwave.

August 8th, 2010

Back in the lab with Mayuri, Luka, Kurisu and Daru, Okabe reflects on the fact that although the past has changed, the relationships between the lab members have not.

While looking at a cosplay magazine with Luka, Mayuri suggests that they should all plan a trip to the beach. Kurisu agrees, but only if it's a girls-only trip. Okabe comments that - among other things - if it was girls-only, Luka would be left out because he's a guy. However, what he says shocks everyone. Luka even starts to cry. Upon inspection, however, he soon discovers that he is wrong and that Luka is, in fact, a girl. He is then quickly hit by Kurisu with a book. Afterwards, Kurisu forced him to sit on his lap for an hour.

August 9th, 2010

The two finally return to the lab, where Kurisu and Luka have started to cook. Kurisu, in particular, is preparing an apple pie.

However, the simultaneous use of future gadgets tripped the circuit breaker.

While trying to move around in the dark, Kurisu tells Okabe about her lab in America and how she feels more comfortable in it. Okabe tells her that he did the lab because he wanted friends. Kurisu tells her that it worked because she considers him a friend. During their conversation, someone turns the lights back on, revealing how close Okabe and Kurisu were to each other.

August 10th, 2010

Okabe proposes to send the humans back in time. Kurisu refuses, but decides to replace the humans with memories. She notes that she will need many parts, which Okabe proceeds to buy.

Okabe saw what Kurisu was doing on Daru's computer and discovered that she was posting regularly on forums and blogs, much to Kurisu's embarrassment. Okabe talks with Kurisu about the Time Leap Machine. Kurisu decides to start working on it, but admits that she's cold feet about the consequences. She then decides to confess something to him. They head to the park, where Kurisu mentions that she and her father are not on the best of terms. When she was little, Kurisu loved to listen to her father's lectures, since he was a physicist, but by the time she got to college, she had learned so much that she knew all the concepts. She then began publishing her own scientific papers and received critical acclaim. At first, her father was enthusiastic and the two regularly exchanged work. However, when Kurisu began to criticize her papers to the point of correcting their flaws, he became furious, saw her as a rival and abandoned all contact with her, and then began to abuse his wife and peers. She now fears that her father will react negatively to her making the machine, but will proceed out of interest. Okabe tells her that he will help reconcile Kurisu's broken relationship by using the device, which she accepts.

Mayuri is later seen carrying two heavy bags, but due to stress, she briefly drops them and starts walking aimlessly. In the lab, Kurisu starts complaining that Okabe just ate some pudding that she labeled "Makise" to show that it was hers. Okabe says that he ate it because he didn't say "Christina" just as Mayuri walks in. She explains that she brought all the cosplay and sleepover stuff she had planned to bring with Kurisu, and thought she would come to the lab since Kurisu was probably going to spend the night there anyway. Kurisu says it's fine as long as Okabe leaves because of the pudding incident, which leads to more bickering. Later, Okabe reluctantly buys food for the sleepover while Kurisu and Mayuri are back in the lab.

August 13th, 2010

The time machine is finished. Kurisu explains how it works, pointing out that they need a human subject to test and see that it really works. However, Okabe declares that they will make the machine public instead of experimenting it by themselves. Mayuri, Kurisu and Daru agree with his decision.

Later, Okabe and Kurisu go shopping for the Lab's upcoming "development conference." Kurisu expresses her relief that they cancelled the experiment.

After an awkward conversation during their trip, the two return to the lab. Daru is already there, and Mayuri then shows up, with Suzuha. Sparks fly as Suzuha and Kurisu argue; Okabe tries to stop them, but it is Mayuri who calms everyone down.

Later that night, Moeka storms the room with 5 armed men and declares that SERN confiscates their time machine, along with Okabe, Kurisu, Daru in custody. When Okabe asks about Mayuri's welfare, Moeka says she is "useless" and shoots Mayuri in the head.

Suzuha noticed the commotion and created a window of opportunity for Kurisu to start the time jump machine for Okabe. As Okabe jumped through time, Kurisu was shot in the back.

In an attempt to prevent Mayuri's death, Okabe locks Kurisu and Daru out of the lab, bluntly telling them to get out of town. This failed. Okabe jumped back in time.

Once again in the lab room with Kurisu and Daru, Okabe, frustrated and tired, goes to break the Time Leap Machine, but Kurisu stops him, saying they had already decided not to use it. He then leaves the Lab, and, after a brief and unsuccessful conversation with Luka, a saddened Okabe takes refuge on a viaduct, where Kurisu finds him.

Some time passes and Okabe explains the situation to Kurisu. The two decide to work together to save Mayuri from her seemingly fatal death. To give them more time to find a solution, Kurisu sends Okabe back in time about 5 hours. She also gives her a sentence to tell her past to convince her that Okabe is from the future.

Okabe ends up in the laboratory, a few seconds before the Time Leap Machine ends. According to their plan, Okabe tells the members of the laboratory that they will not experiment the Time Leap Machine. Later, he meets Kurisu and reveals that he is from the future.

After convincing Kurisu that he is telling the truth, the two of them go to the lab to find a way to save Mayuri. They deduce that there is an underlying cause for Mayuri's death, separate from the involvement of Moeka and the Rounders.

Suzuha takes Okabe and Kurisu to the place where the satellite crashed into the radio building. There she reveals to both of them an amazing truth. It is revealed that Suzuha is from the year 2036, that she is the time traveler John Titor. Suzuha then explains that SERN obtained the resources by using her time machine to bend the butterfly effect to her own will. She also says that one person helped them to monopolize time: Kurisu - "the mother of the time machine", explaining why Suzuha reacts strangely around her. Moreover, Okabe becomes a famous fighter of the anti-SERN resistance, but in 2036, they both die.

August 11th, 2010

Kurisu mentions that it is impossible to repair the time machine with the current technology, but Okabe forces Daru to do it in 48 hours with the reward of a date with Faris. Okabe then asks Kurisu to go back to the lab to get the phone wave, but Mayuri starts complaining that Suzuha never got to meet her father.

13th August 2010

Mayuri died again, forcing Okabe to jump back in time to ask Kurisu for help again. On the rooftop, they discuss what needs to be done to move from the Alpha Attractor field to a Beta world line, as Suzuha had told them. This requires them to hack SERN and delete all the data the organization has on the lab. The IBN 5100 is needed to hack into SERN.

Kurisu theorizes that since cancelling the D-Mail sent to Suzuha delayed Mayuri's death, cancelling all the D-Mails that change the time in reverse order could send them back to a world line where they have the IBN. Not knowing if this will work or not, Okabe decides to take a chance and jumps back in time, deciding to cancel the D-mails that were sent.

After canceling Faris' D-Mail, Okabe jumps the world lines, suddenly finding himself in the lab with Kurisu and Mayuri. Faris, now back to his former self as May Queen, appears behind him. Okabe is shocked, and when Kurisu warns her about her strange behavior, Faris tells them that she and Okabe fought the dark forces together in a previous life.

In the lab, Okabe is sitting solemnly on the sofa. This prompts Kurisu to joke that he looks so depressed all of a sudden, much to her annoyance. Mayuri then enters and yells at Okabe for making Luka cry, having invited her to come to the lab only for her to burst into tears over Okabe's "comment". Kurisu quickly takes care of her case, so Okabe takes her to the park and explains the whole situation. Kurisu doesn't believe him at first, but does when she realizes that the next scenario might be that Daru looks like her. She then suggests that since Okabe knows what the text says, he can undo it himself because Luka might not want to go back to being a boy, but Okabe says he doesn't know the pager number and would rather not be so sneaky. Kurisu then says that the real reason Luka doesn't want to be a boy is because he doesn't know the number.

When Okabe arrives, Luka tells Okabe that she believes him, but asks a favor: before sending the D-mail, they have to go on a date the next day. Despite Okabe's dismay, he agrees so that Luka doesn't cry. Soon after, he asks Kurisu for dating advice at Queen May's, who finds the subject disgusting. Okabe then admits that he's throwing caution to the wind by asking his assistant for dating advice but not to taunt him, and Kurisu again complains about the assistant label. This brings Faris to attention, and she asks who with (even suggesting it's Kurisu), before saying that "all these women chasing" will alter her "special technique." This leads to a debate riddled with innuendo between Okabe and Kurisu, which Daru eventually overhears. At the lab, he tries to give Okabe dating advice by talking about all the girls he's dated on his online harem, but Okabe pushes him away. Okabe then tries to look for places to date, but concedes. This leads to a conversation between him and Kurisu about their virginity, during which Kurisu accidentally reveals that she is also a virgin.

At the cafe later, Kurisu reads a pamphlet on how to have a proper first date. Based on what she reads, Okabe suggests wearing her lab coat and going to Queen May, but Kurisu tells her to lose the coat and go somewhere else, which leads to another argument. Daru then tries to get Okabe to read a hentai game strategy guide for advice before leaving. They end up debating ideas until the morning, when Kurisu forces Okabe to wear a suit. She then forces Daru to help her spy on Okabe so that he doesn't spoil anything. Finally, Okabe goes to wait for Luka on a bridge, and after meeting her there, they leave. As they walk down the street, Okabe continues to play out various scenarios and how to react to them in his head, leading to some awkward but well-meaning moments, to Kurisu's frustration.

This turned out well enough in the end, and Daru and Kurisu wrote the D-mail to Luka's mother, canceling the change.

August 15, 2010

The lab members sit around, Daru typing things, Mayuri wondering how she should cook ramen, and Okabe and Kurisu sitting alone, tense. Mayuri invites Kurisu to a comic convention, at which point Okabe solemnly recites all of Mayuri's plans, prompting Kurisu to take her to the roof. Okabe tells Kurisu that even though Mayuri is not dead yet, he knows that she will eventually die, and can do nothing but wait, and proceeds to tell him again everything that is happening in the park. He then notes that each canceled D-mail pushes Mayuri's death back a day, and he plans to attend the death to make sure of everything he needs to do to change the world line. He plans to cancel Moeka's next one, but he has to do it from his phone. Kurisu tells him to find Moeka while she follows Mayuri,

As Okabe prepares for another time jump, he learns from Kurisu at 7:52pm that Mayuri has passed away.

Okabe's time jumps...

August 10th, 2010

...and comes back to the time when he has his pudding fight with Kurisu. He keeps calling her name and tells her that they have to save Moeka's life.

Okabe calls Kurisu and asks her to turn on the microwave, but when the D-mail is sent, Okabe quickly realizes that he is still on the same world line as before. They find out that Moeka's D-mail wasn't about getting a new phone. It was to steal the IBN 5100 from the shrine. He and Kurisu send the D-mail that will cancel it, but it no longer works.

August 12, 2010

Okabe is frustrated that he can't get the IBN 5100 from a coin locker and looks for a crowbar. Kurisu makes him explain what's going on, but after he's done, Kurisu says that because none of the other world lines he's reorganized have taken him to the IBN 5100, he may just have to cancel all the D-mails before he can access that, without taking any shortcuts. Just as Okabe is about to concede, Kurisu also mentions that the IBN needs to be in the coin locker for a reason: so FB can come and get it, which means that if Okabe sits outside the locker room and waits, he can see FB.

The next day, Mr. Braun gives the IBN to a man in a van, who takes it on a plane to France, meaning he takes it to SERN. Kurisu then brings Okabe and Moeka to a bridge, and she yells at Okabe for making Mayuri sad the night before.

After Mr. Braun commits suicide and at Kurisu's persuasion, Okabe prepares a D-mail from Mr. Braun's phone telling Moeka to stop looking for NBI 5100 and sends it.

August 13, 2010

Okabe jumped back in time and explained the situation to Daru and Kurisu, including Suzuha's lineage and Mayuri's fate, after recovering IBN 5100. He then tells Daru to hack SERN and delete all the data that reported them in the first place. While he does this, Daru suggests that he become another time-traveling radio personality like John Titor from Suzuha, which Okabe and Kurisu find tempting. Okabe then comments to Kurisu that she did a great job passing the phone around, and Kurisu initially says "Aww," but quickly becomes "tsundere" (as Daru says). Okabe then mumbles something about himself and Kurisu, but takes it back. As Daru makes final preparations for the hack, Kurisu asks Okabe what the very first D-mail was. This makes Okabe suddenly panic in silence,

Later, Kurisu receives a call from Okabe and asks if they've made any "progress." This prompts her to ask what's going on. Okabe tells her that he plans to save Mayuri with the already deleted D-mails without going to another line of the world, but refuses to say why, saying only that there are unexpected developments. Thinking that something will happen soon, Kurisu begs Okabe to give her some leads, but he hangs up on her.

Kurisu leaves a note for Okabe saying they need to talk, but ignoring it, Okabe uses the phone wave again.

August 13, 2010

Okabe transports himself just as Daru begins the hacking. This time, Kurisu and Daru see Okabe's downtrodden face and continue not to go through with it.

August 15th, 2010

Okabe is again lying on his back, looking at the sky. This time, Kurisu arrives, admitting that she's worried about Okabe after he said he wanted to be left alone. Okabe, still avoiding the subject, says he's just a law-abiding citizen. Kurisu scoffs at this since evil geniuses don't usually accept such things, but this causes Okabe to collapse, saying that he's not an evil genius and that Hououin Kyoma is a piece of cake. Surprised, Kurisu realizes that he jumped in time again and asks what happened, arguing that they are a good team. But Okabe says that even after forcing Faris, Luka and Moeka to cancel their D-mails, they still haven't made any progress, and deciding he's had enough, Okabe grabs his phone and prepares to throw it off the building. Kurisu manages to grab his arm before he can, almost hugging him and offering to give him a hand. Okabe then finally tells Kurisu about the D-mail, and after he finishes, Mayuri calls him. She asks him if he is okay after Daru mentions Okabe's crying. He says he is fine, and after a brief discussion about ninjas. After Mayuri hangs up, Kurisu tells Okabe to go and get her, because moping about herself makes her angry.

That night, Kurisu goes to the Radio Kaikan building where Suzuha's time machine crashed, and in the darkness, she found the room where she was stabbed in another world line.

Kurisu now sprawls on the roof in the same way as Okabe, but on the roof of the radio building. Okabe finds her there, and they briefly mention Mayuri when Kurisu tries to say something else, only to stop. Then there was a downpour, making them both soaked.

They entered the building, where Okabe stared at Kurisu, his clothes translucent from the rain. They quickly begin to argue about it when Kurisu notes that Okabe has torn her lab coat on her shoulder. Since she has a sewing kit, Kurisu offers to sew it. Since it was dark out there, she wasn't sure what color thread she was using, black, red or pink. As Okabe reluctantly asks her to do it, Kurisu asks where he tore it. Okabe doesn't know, but backtracks, revealing that since Kurisu didn't answer his phone or anything, he got worried and went around the city, including his hotel room, looking for it. this delights Kurisu. She then throws the lab coat at Okabe, saying that no one wants to see a mad scientist with pudding for a brain; of course, Okabe puts on the coat, and discovers to his horror that Kurisu used the pink thread. Kurisu then gets up and asks if she dies in the building. Okabe, shocked, asks if she remembers her death. Instead, Kurisu says that she only has partial memories of it all, and it's like she's having a fuzzy out-of-body experience. She then says that she also remembers Okabe constantly chasing Mayuri, constantly suffering because she is irreplaceable. Kurisu then asks that Okabe return to her original world lineage, even if it means her death. constantly suffering because she is irreplaceable. Kurisu then asks that Okabe return to her original world lineage, even if it means her death. Kurisu then demands that Okabe return to her original world lineage, even if it means her death.

Okabe refuses and returns to the lab, determined to find a way to save them both. When he gets there, he prepares to jump back in time, but Kurisu catches him and stops him before he can, telling him that she wants the D-mail erased. Okabe growls to himself, and Kurisu continues that time jumping won't break the 1% barrier, and that watching Mayuri die too many times will eventually break it. Okabe says that this is not the case, because he has already seen Mayuri die dozens of times. This prompts Kurisu to slap him and say that, if Mayuri's death doesn't hurt him anymore, then his heart is already broken. Okabe admits that she might be right, since Mayuri's death has become numb to him, so he might as well let it go. Kurisu argues that if he lets her go after working so hard, he will break even more.

Overwhelmed, Okabe embraces Kurisu. In his head, he finally realizes that of all the people he knew, Kurisu was the one who, despite constant quarrels with him, always shared problems with him and believed in him, her theories are always fantastic, he remembers every word she said, and the reason he never called her by her name in a normal situation was because he was embarrassed to do so, but he never told her how he really felt. Kurisu shrugs at the thought of someone wanting her so badly. Okabe, however, walks over to the window and wonders why it had to be her. Kurisu tries to cheer her up by telling her that in the end, there are infinite universes, many of which have their own version of her. And having been in several of these universes, Okabe can formulate Kurisu from the dozens of Kurisus he has met, and in the end, she will win.

After a while, Okabe says that he could never forget her, the person he cares about more than anyone else, even if he tried, and proceeds to confess his love to her, much to her surprise. He then asks Kurisu what his opinion is, at least at this moment. In response, Kurisu tells him to close his eyes, and after that, Kurisu pulls him down slightly and kisses him.

After a long period of time, Kurisu breaks the kiss and quickly tries to overcome it by saying that she only did it assuming that it was her first kiss and therefore she would remember it better since it is stored in the hippocampus.

Okabe quickly said that it was not his first kiss, but that the first one was not romantic (which implies that he had to kiss Moeka, although Kyoka no Dejà Vu changed that).

For that and to avoid that the seahorse forgets the kiss, he asks for another kiss.

They clasped their lips passionately.

As they do, Kurisu thinks to herself that time passes quickly. She hypothesizes that whether time is fast or slow depends on perception, and that Einstein's theory of relativity must be true, as well as both romantic and tragic.

But in the end, Okabe doesn't know how she feels about him.

The next day, Kurisu prepares to return to America. Okabe sees her off at the station and gives her his Future Gadget # 2 Bamboo-copter as a souvenir, even though she doesn't want it. As she prepares to leave, Kurisu throws a bottle of soda at her; it ends up going over his head, forcing him to go get it. As Okabe bends down to pick it up, Kurisu says something to him, but when Okabe looks at her, she's already gone. Kurisu, while waiting for the train, thinks that Okabe will have a hard life since, of all the members of the lab, only he will remember her, and he will have to bear this burden alone. She then admits that he cares about people more than he lets on, and that she wants him to remember her from time to time, even if he kisses someone. She then starts to repeat Okabe'.

Okabe returns to the lab, where Daru hacks into the SERN and finds the first D-mail. As they prepare to delete it, Okabe clutches his head. Mayuri asks if he's okay, and Okabe quickly goes into another rant, saying that he finally defeated the Organization and thanks them all for working so hard to fight for victory, but begins to tense up thinking about the blood that had to be spilled. Finally, he summons up the courage to press the button that erases the D-mail, asking Kurisu to forgive him, when suddenly Kurisu bursts into the lab. Gasping, she looks at Okabe and confesses her love for him, but then the lines of the world have changed.

Okabe finds himself in the position he was in after introducing the members of his laboratory. After confirming that Dr. Nakabachi's press conference is over, he questions Mayuri about LabMem # 004 and learns that no one remembers Kurisu. Entering hysteria, Okabe claims that he has finally triumphed and can look forward to the future. However, Mayuri reveals that she is fine now and tells Okabe that he can cry if he wants. Then, Okabe ships all his lab equipment to avoid any further risk and asks Kurisu if it's for the best.

August 31, 2010

Suzuha asks "Uncle" Okabe to help her go back in time and prevent the Third World War. However, Okabe refuses, having gotten used to a life without time jumps, and seeing that Kurisu is already dead. Suzuha then tells Okabe to prevent World War III from saving Kurisu from death, and that in doing so, they will go to another line of the world known as Steins Gate. Okabe doesn't believe it, even though Suzuha says that he is the very person who conceived the theory, and that even with the slim odds, it's worth it. Okabe hesitates, but after Mayuri and Daru tell him to leave, he decides to do it so that Kurisu lives.

As Okabe and Suzuha arrive, Okabe almost vomits. Suzuha breaks down the door with a silenced pistol, the plan being for Okabe to save Kurisu and watch out for Dr. Nakabachi while Suzuha prepares for a trip home; however, Okabe must not find himself in his past. Okabe enters the building when he notices Past Okabe heading to the roof after hearing the time machine. He follows Past Okabe and Past Mayuri to the Oopa vending machine, then makes a break for the eighth floor. However, he eventually meets Past Kurisu and almost suffers a nervous breakdown. He reaches out to touch Kurisu, who claims she doesn't know him, causing her to drop her envelope which she brought to the floor in defense. An intercom then announces that Dr. Nakabachi's press conference is starting, and Okabe quickly rushes there.

Then Okabe goes to the closet where Kurisu dies and has to hide among the boxes to avoid Kurisu noticing him when she comes. Okabe also sees that her envelope contains papers about time machines and wonders if that's why she was killed. Just then, a man approaches Kurisu and asks her harshly why she is there. Kurisu gives him the papers, calling him dad. Her father is then revealed to be Dr. Nakabachi, who begins to read the papers, leading Okabe to realize that Nakabachi is the one killing her. Kurisu's articles turn out to be a time machine theory, and it is shown that Nakabachi let a university group do their own work and destroy their empire. After going through the papers, Nakabachi decides that the paper is not bad, but refuses to publish it under her name and Kurisu's name as she requested and instead decides to publish the paper for himself. Kurisu protests that it's stealing, prompting Nakabachi to slam her to the ground and claim that she's the thief because, in her mind, she's destroying his ability to become a world-renowned scientist. Okabe jumps out of hiding and slams Nakabachi in the face, and the grateful one comes to the conclusion that Okabe is working with Kurisu to destroy his reputation. Hysterically, he pulls out a switchblade and hits Okabe, but Okabe throws him against a wall, making him drop the knife. Okabe goes to get the knife and Kurisu tries to make Nakabachi stop, but he takes a screwdriver and starts to threaten her with it. Okabe, retrieving the knife, tries to stab Nakabachi, but at that point Kurisu manages to push Nakabachi aside, and in the process Okabe stabs Kurisu, revealing himself as the real murderer. As Kurisu collapses in Okabe's arms, an unapologetic Nakabachi leaves with the paper. Kurisu then dies, leaving Okabe in a state of trauma and screams loudly as what Past Okabe heard.

Okabe and Suzuha return from the past, where Okabe collapses to the ground in shock. His clothes are covered with Kurisu's blood.

Okabe refuses, believing that he can't break the 1% barrier and save Kurisu, just like he did with Mayuri. He then prepares to limp along, but Mayuri suddenly slaps him, saying that he can't just give up because that's not who he is.

Suzuha then tells Okabe to open a video file that he received on July 28. Although the file is not visible at the time it arrived, she said that Okabe had to fail once to record Kurisu in order to view this video. Okabe opens the glitchy file and sees her future self of the year 2025 sitting in a chair. Future Okabe says that Okabe seeing Kurisu's death is necessary because it connects him to the Future Okabe who is creating this video, and so with the link established, Okabe can see this video. He then explains how to change the future and reach Steins Gate. He gives two instructions to Okabe: destroy the time travel paper and save Kurisu. Okabe hesitates in the part about saving Kurisu. But at the same time, Future Okabe mentions the same thing. Future Okabe then says that there is a way to save Kurisu, and Okabe just does it in the wrong approach. On the one hand, he has to keep all things consistent with how Past Okabe saw Kurisu die, as if they changed everything would disappear. Okabe must not undo the cause of all his three weeks of experience drifting into another worldline attractor field. Because of this experience, here Okabe, and also the future Okabe, has the will to save Kurisu. To this end, he must somehow change Past Okabe's perception so that he thinks Kurisu is dead when in reality she is still alive. has the will to save Kurisu. To this end, he must somehow change Past Okabe's perception so that he thinks Kurisu is dead when in reality she is still alive. To do this, he has to somehow change Past Okabe's perception so that he thinks Kurisu is dead when in reality she is still alive.

He finally finds the object, a glow stick lightsaber, with which he intends to use his liquid as a substitute for Kurisu's blood. Everyone says that this plan may be too simple compared to what Future Okabe said, but Okabe says that it's just perfect, scaring everyone. Mayuri then asks Okabe if Kurisu used to sit in her chair frequently and seems to remember Kurisu's time in the lab. Suzuha initially thinks it's because Mayuri has a Reading Steiner, so Okabe explains that, if given the right push, anyone can have their memories moved to another line in the world, so it makes sense that Mayuri would have memories of Kurisu. He ends up accidentally admitting that he and Kurisu had feelings for each other, which confuses Daru but Mayuri aww.

Okabe and Suzuha arrive in the past, where Okabe gives Suzuha instructions on how to use the light stick. Okabe then heads to the seventh floor, where he decides to retrieve the Oopa metal so that Nakabachi's paper is burned in the fire. He manages to succeed and Past Mayuri gets a green Oopa instead. He then heads to the fourth floor, where he has to mimic the first version of himself to get into the time machine so as not to alter Kurisu's memory; however, he ends up mumbling that he is there to save his life instead of being interrupted, much to Okabe's clumsiness. He then sees Kurisu picking up the green Oopa, showing that Nakabachi stole it from Kurisu as well. Okabe then returns to the closet where Kurisu dies, and is shown holding a taser, hoping to knock him out after eliminating Nakabachi so that Past Okabe is fooled again. However, as he prepares the lightsaber, he discovers to his horror that the liquid has dried up by the time Nakabachi appears. He quickly tries to think of a replacement, then looks at his own hand.

As Nakabachi throws Kurisu to the ground, Okabe jumps out from behind the boxes and gives a Hououin Kyoma speech. Recognizing him again as his heckler, Nakabachi pulls out his knife again, but Okabe continues, then taunts Nakabachi by calling him a coward. Enraged, Nakabachi continues to stab Okabe in the stomach, causing the necessary blood to leak out. Okabe then manages to kick Nakabachi to the ground, and from there, removes the knife from his stomach. He begins to threaten Nakabachi with the knife, prompting him to flee with the paper when Okabe's blood runs down his nose. Kurisu tries to call an ambulance, but Okabe pulls out the taser, again saying he came there to save her, and knocks her out. Okabe then reaches her stomach, thinking of all her adventures while doing so, and proceeds to extract enough blood before putting Kurisu's body in the right position. Suzuha then manages to surrender to Okabe and carry it through. However, Okabe asks Suzuha to stay and watch behind a corner with him, to make sure that Past Okabe gets to Kurisu. Seeing that he does, Okabe wishes Past Okabe good luck, as the next three weeks will be the most difficult of his life.

Okabe is shown standing on the sidewalk, wondering what Kurisu is doing in America now. He admits that he has accepted the fact that Kurisu probably no longer has any memories of their time in the other world lines, and hopes that she has made peace with her father. He then admits that it took some time to cope, but he thinks that as long as she is alive and SERN is gone, everyone benefits. He then begins to walk down the street past the now intact science building, and in doing so, he manages to pass Kurisu, who has spent all his time looking for Okabe in order to thank him for saving her life. As they stop to talk, Okabe pulls out his phone and starts talking again, but encrypts a message saying he wants to stay close to Kurisu while ending the "call" with "El Psy Congroo". From there, he calls Kurisu "Christina" again, who manages to awaken his memories of other world lines. He then welcomes her and hands her a lab pin, reaffirming their love. Okabe then tells himself that space-time is infinite and will always try to do the right thing as their reunion shows - and that is the real choice of Steins;Gate...

Visit of the laboratory

Okabe and Mayuri are in the lab when Daru arrives wearing a Luffy hat and a Hawaiian shirt. Okabe almost thinks he wants to join the Yakuza or a safari, but instead is reminded that the three of them, along with Luka, have been invited by Faris to watch her in a Rai-Net competition in Los Angeles, and Daru is just dressing up for the occasion. Mayuri then receives a text message from Kurisu, saying that she will be able to visit them, but also says that they should only bring Okabe if they have to.

The four of them visit Mr. Braun, Nae and Moeka briefly. Nae asks for a gift, and when Mayuri asks if Moeka wants one, she quickly texts Okabe saying not to buy macadamia nuts (which are actually from Australia) and then, blushing, verbally asks for chocolate. Kurisu is then seen looking at their plane, and when the group arrives at the check-in, the passport officer asks the reason of the visit. Not understanding the question, Okabe declares himself a mad scientist, but this causes the police to deem him mad and quickly handcuff him and take him away. After managing to get out, Okabe heads to the entrance where he finds Kurisu. Speechless upon seeing her again, Okabe forgets to say hello, then leaves saying he thought she was a spy after being called back. This leads Kurisu to briefly mention Leroy Jenkins. She then tells everyone to get in the car, but after Okabe asks for a cab instead, Kurisu leaves. This forces Okabe to take a cab, though he tries to make Kurisu sympathize by making it look like he ran all the way, only for her to understand. Faris then arrives and questions Okabe about why he canceled the hotel reservation she made for them, and he goes on a rant about how the Seven Philosophers Organization could find their location, which she plays along with. However, when Okabe starts talking about a taijutsu move that Faris learned, he is arrested again. Okabe, Mayuri and Daru then come to Kurisu's apartment, where they quickly begin to feel at home in all the ways that Kurisu doesn't want them to. Later, Okabe starts watching the weather and asks how Kurisu's life has been. He learns that Kurisu has decided to leave the time travel findings and details about the other world lines to him, then claims that she has no memories of the other world lines beyond the Steins Gate one; however, when Okabe asks her if she has any other "substantial" memories, she blushes and tries to shake it off. After that, Kurisu manages to get a motel reservation for the four of them, but discovers that the place is extremely tattered. Okabe and Luka quickly refuse, fearing that Norman Bates from the movie Psycho will commit a shower scene on them, but Kurisu says she has no choice. They then begin to make sleeping arrangements, but things get mixed up (with Kurisu even thinking that Mayuri has already slept with Okabe, and then with Luka mixing up her feelings for Okabe again), and in the end, Okabe is forced to sleep in the same bed with Daru, Mayuri is with Luka (whom Daru finds "yuri-licious") and Kurisu is alone. As Okabe and Daru finally get mad, they play Rock Paper Scissors to see who should sleep in the car. Okabe loses, but when he leaves the room, he finds Kurisu outside. After Kurisu gives her a diet soda, Okabe asks her if she wants him to review her work. Instead, Kurisu asks about the other lines of the world, as with Mayuri, she begins to experience memory dreams, apparently not having awakened all the memories. Okabe says they are from other lines of the world, and Kurisu asks about a particular dream. Okabe offers to help her, but because the memory is of them kissing, Kurisu gets angry and throws a can of soda at her, knocking her out. This ends up partially waking Mayuri, who comments on the relationship before passing out again.

October 15, 2010: 11:16 a.m.

At Staples Center the next day, Faris manages to score big at the Rai-Net tournament while Daru cheers her on, and Mayuri manages to put Luka back in female cosplay, much to her embarrassment. Outside in the cafe, Okabe is sitting at a table when the waitress - Kurisu - reluctantly brings him his food, having been forced to become one temporarily to pay for their plane ticket. This results in another argument, during which Okabe says he's glad Kurisu seems to have improved from last night, then says it's best not to touch the memories of those worldly lineages. Kurisu leaves after saying that none of the events in the other world lines are real, but seems to have a sullen face.

Okabe goes out to get another soda, when he sees a young girl getting into a car, and quickly sees that she resembles Suzuha in both appearance and voice. Thinking it's actually her, he follows her into a cab (driven by the badge seller), wondering if there really is time travel in this world line. This horrifies the group, as he leaves no message behind and even leaves his meal untouched, prompting Kurisu to look for it.

Later, Okabe mentions that he regrets never telling Kurisu about their previous love affair, only to have Kurisu find him on the spot in the middle of a deserted highway. After initially thinking it was a mirage, he discovers that Kurisu was worried about him and left in such a hurry that she didn't fill up the gas tank, leaving the car out of gas and the two of them trapped in the desert. Okabe explains why he came there, which leaves Kurisu a little relieved because she thought he left in disgust with his comment about none of the other things happening to him. She then begins to wonder about her dream memories and asks why the one she didn't mention seems more real than her actual memories. Okabe, deducing what it was, says it was real, then proceeds to confess her love again and asks how she feels. Unlike her counterpart, Kurisu says she doesn't know how she feels about Okabe because she doesn't have Reading Steiner. Okabe decides to elaborate by saying that while alternate world lines are real to him and she has always been his constant, he just wants to know how she feels in the current world line. And standing up, Kurisu asks Okabe to close his eyes as with the other world line, finally completing the choice of Steins;Gate...
