Appearance
Hongo is a lean man with blonde hair tied back in a short ponytail. He features a distinct scar on the left side of his forehead. His outfit typically consists of an open black coat revealing his chest and black trousers.
Twelve years ago in Foosha Village, he was often seen smiling and was missing a few teeth, though he appears to have a full set by the time of the Battle of Marineford. In certain special episodes like "Episode of Luffy" or "Episode of East Blue," he is occasionally depicted with darker hair.

Much like his crewmates, Hongo loves to party and drink. He was one of the pirates who explained to a young Luffy how vast the world is, filled with countless islands to explore. He maintains absolute trust in his captain. During the Marineford War, he showed a more serious and professional side. Interestingly, Hongo is known to be very tidy and appreciates clean, immaculate environments.
Abilities and Skills
While his full combat capabilities remain largely unseen, as an officer of a Yonko's crew, he is undoubtedly powerful. Commodore Brannew noted that Shanks' subordinates, including Hongo, have exceptionally high average bounties and a reputation for balance and strength.
During the Battle of Marineford, he was seen carrying a pole or staff-like weapon, which appears to be his primary tool for combat. As the crew's doctor, Hongo possesses expert medical knowledge, but he is also surprisingly skilled with mechanical weapons, capable of dismantling them almost instantaneously.

Romance Dawn Arc
Hongo was seen celebrating with the Red-Haired Pirates at Party's Bar. He was among those encouraging Luffy's curiosity about the sea and the freedom of being a pirate.
Summit War Saga
Marineford Arc
Hongo arrived at Marineford alongside Shanks and the other core officers to bring the war to an end. He stood ready to engage the Marines or the Blackbeard Pirates if the fighting had continued, contributing to the crew's intimidating presence that halted the conflict.

Wano Country Saga
Wano Country Arc
Following the raid on Onigashima, the Red-Haired Pirates were sailing near the borders of Wano. While some crew members were excited about seeing Luffy, Shanks decided to focus on his territories first. Hongo was the one to remind his captain about Bartolomeo, who had been causing trouble in their protectorates by burning their flag.
Final Saga
Egghead Arc
While the crew was dining at a cafe on the coast of Elbaf, Rockstar informed them of Eustass Kid's arrival. Shanks prepared for battle to protect his allies and the island. Hongo stood with the crew as Shanks moved to intercept the Victoria Punk. Although the officers prepared for a fight, Shanks ultimately ended the conflict himself by defeating Kid and Killer in a single strike.
