Hell's Paradise turned out to be one of the most successful anime of 2023, and actors like Gabimaru proved to be excellent characters.
Hell's Paradise is an action-packed, emotional story about a group of criminals and samurai in search of the elixir of life on a dangerous island. The anime's setup makes it very character-driven, with a large and diverse cast of characters. The Hell's Paradise cast comprises three main groups: the Yamada Asaemon, the criminals and the Tensen.
While the Tensens have yet to be properly developed as characters, many Yamada Asaemon and criminals have already had memorable arcs and moments that will keep many fans excited for season 2. Building on the success of season 1, Hell's Paradise is only looking to improve its characters in the future.

5/ Yamada Asaemon Shion
Yamada Asaemon Shion joins the likes of Toph Beifong in the list of remarkable blind characters who observe the world around them with a special sixth sense. In Shion's case, his blindness has enabled him to become even more in tune with Tao than the other characters.
Shion is one of the coolest characters in the series, and his skills with the blade are second to none. He is arguably the strongest Asaemon of season 1 and will become an even greater threat to the Tensens the more he masters Tao.

The modern "black trio" of Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise has surpassed the big three Shonen in many ways. Thanks to much shorter stories with more compact plots, the new generation of anime presents tragic deaths much earlier.
Yamada Asaemon Tenza is a character that fans have grown to love with just a few episodes in the spotlight, and his death was handled beautifully. Tenza saved a character who would later become much more important: his mentor and best friend, Yamada Asaemon Shion.
3/ Aza Chobei
Chobei has already proven to be one of the strongest characters in Hell's Paradise, and possesses arguably the greatest Tao mastery outside of Tensen. Aside from his incredible strength, Chobei's Bakugo attitude and ability to adapt to any situation have already made him a fan favorite.
Without Chobei, Gabimaru would be one of the few legitimate threats to the Tensen. Chobei offers the human side an extra glimmer of hope and gives fans an interesting secondary character to seek out. Chobei's relationship with his brother also humanizes him and shows a softer side.
2/ Yamada Asaemon Sagiri

Many anime are guilty of not giving enough screen time to their female protagonists, but Yamada Asaemon Sagiri was a perfect deuteragonist for Hell's Paradise. The samurai faces the realistic but disappointing sexism and ridicule of many of his fellow warriors, but his real struggle is internal.
Sagiri's struggle with his job as executioner is fascinating, and his friendship with Gabimaru is one of the best parts of the story. A strong Platonic male/female relationship in anime is rare, and the way they work and learn from each other works wonderfully.

Gabimaru the Hollow is the protagonist of Hell's Paradise and is arguably one of the best protagonists in all of action anime. Gabimaru's character development throughout the series and his relationships with his wife and Sagiri provide some of the most touching moments in modern anime.
The first season explores Gabimaru's weakness and what true strength even means. The shinobi's second chance at life as a murderer turned protector conveys a powerful message of redemption and that everyone can change.
