Gabimaru was Iwa's most infamous shinobi until he was betrayed by his village for wanting to give up his role as a murderer and live a peaceful life with his wife. As a result, he was handed over to the authorities for execution. However, after the shogun calls for those condemned to death to compete to acquire the elixir of life from an island supposedly Shinsenkyō in exchange for a pardon for their past crimes, Gabimaru receives an invitation from Yamada Asaemon Sagiri to be part of the competition. and accepts in order to reunite with Yui and live the life he so longed for.

Appearance

Gabimaru is a young man of below-average height. He has wild white hair that usually covers the right side of his face, red eyes (yellow in the anime) and is usually seen with a stoic facial expression. He is shown to be significantly muscular under his robe and has visible scars from his time in Iwa. After his body was negatively influenced by Zhu Jin's fusion with the Banko, Gabimaru's appearance became horrific. His hair began to bloom and he had a large dark mark extending from his left eye. These features were then reduced after he managed to stabilize his Tao, having only small traces of pink flower petals in his hair and a branch mark over his left eye. After being freed from arborification by Sagiri , Gabimaru's hair became shorter and regained its original features. After a year, Gabimaru's hair has grown back to its original volume.

He wears the standard Iwagakure shinobi outfit, consisting of a black robe with long frayed sleeves, a black tattsuke bakama and a white frayed belt tied around his waist. He also wears a turtleneck breastplate to cover the lower part of his face as a mask when ready to fight. He wears ninja gauntlets and sandals with gaiters attached to his legs.

During Hōrai's infiltration, the left side of Gabimaru's robe tore after Ran split his hand over his shoulder, which was then healed with Flower Tao. Later, he replaced his robe with a new one from a fallen Iwagakure shinobi.

Personality

As befits his pseudonym and reputation, Gabimaru is generally calm and apathetic, a composure he maintains even in the face of danger, such as his various execution sentences or when confronted with well-known death-row criminals. After being confronted by Warped Keiun , Gabimaru simply concentrated on re-tying the restraints on his hands, as Sagiri had requested earlier, not caring that he was being hit by a barrage of attacks from the monk as he did so. As Sagiri noted, Gabimaru also complained when he was calm. After being informed by Sagiri that they would have to go to Edo first before starting the mission, Gabimaru expressed his disapproval at not being able to go to the island immediately, which had almost cost him the invitation Sagiri had offered him. When the two landed on the island, Gabimaru complained that the constraints were a nuisance and that the supplies the shogun had given him were useless. He prefers to stick to his main objective and not get tangled up with anything else that doesn't involve his goals, finding his fight with Keiun a waste of time. Gabimaru also has very poor social skills, as he had trouble interacting with Yui when he first met her and was reprimanded by Sagiri and Yuzuriha for pointing a sword at Mei, as well as later reprimanded by Gantetsusai for making her cry with a look. it was unintentionally scary.

During his time at Iwagakure, Gabimaru was known and admired by his peers for his cruel and ruthless murders of his victims, having been raised from childhood by the Iwagakure leader to have a total disregard for life and that sentimentality is a sign of weakness. After suffering amnesia where he returned to his former self as "Gabimaru the Hollow", Gabimaru expressed his bloodlust over how he would kill Chōbei after fighting with him and decided to kill Fuchi, Gantetsusai and Mei without question if they were his enemies. Faced with a difficult situation in battle, Gabimaru resorts to falling into a murderous, bloodthirsty state where his only objective is to kill whoever or whatever gets in his way. In his opinion, as an Iwa shinobi, he had followed their principles, such as pursuing a mission, defeating his opponents whatever the tactics, and that his life was worthless if he had to die. His work also made him immune to the sight of death.

After being married to Yui, Gabimaru underwent a major change. Although he was influenced by his boss's words to get rid of his emotions in order to become strong, Gabimaru was also influenced by Yui's caring and nurturing nature and came to believe his wife's words that true strength comes from embracing one's emotions. As a result of implanting these words in a part of his psyche, Gabimaru had managed to regain some of his humanity, overcoming his cruel ninja nature, as he would try to avoid needlessly killing human lives. However, realizing that there was no other way out, Gabimaru would make the unpleasant decision to kill, but would feel sorrow for the lives he had taken.

Gabimaru's affection for his wife leads him to act differently than when he's with others. When he's around Yui, Gabimaru tends to act rather nervous, embarrassed and even annoyed, a side that rarely anyone can bring out in him. He also tries to make an effort not to act so stoic in her presence, but finds this rather difficult as he has to think hard to try and find the right face to make. In light of this, the only time he's really happy to smile comfortably is when he's with her.

After being resolved by Sagiri to redeem himself as a new man, Gabimaru began to experiment and notice gradual changes in his behavior, allowing himself in particular to embrace his emotions as the Asaemon had hoped. Even though he had his mission to focus on alone, Gabimaru began to show signs of care and concern for others. When Sagiri was in danger of being attacked by a Sōshin, Gabimaru subconsciously rushed to save her. Later, he committed the same action when he intervened to protect Mei from the Dōshi, saying he couldn't bear to see her cry, while wanting to repay a debt he owed her after helping her escape Zhu Jin's wrath. Gabimaru also lost his temper and showed genuine anger after hearing the Dōshi talk about Mei as if she were an object. After hearing Mei' Like wished to see Rien and Jofuku before leaving the island to start a new life, Gabimaru vowed to do everything he could to make that happen when the time came to infiltrate Hōrai. Gabimaru also came to understand what it meant to feel sympathy, having come to understand the great lengths the surviving criminals and Asaemons had to endure to overtake Lord Tensen and escape the island alive. After realizing that Rien was Jofuku's wife, Gabimaru couldn't bring himself to destroy her husband's golden body, for he knew what it was to love someone dearly, and smiled as he explained his reason, allowing the Tensens to accept Jofuku's passing. . Thanks to all his experience on the island, Gabimaru had come to completely reject Iwa's teachings and allowed himself to come out of his shell without emotion.

Although he can sometimes be obnoxious (mainly seen through Sagiri's eyes), he can be quite considerate of others at the same time. Back when he was with his wife, he advised her not to cover his scar with her hair, telling her that appearances didn't matter, and didn't want her to see him with a bloody face because he thought it might scare her. Later, he gave the same advice to Mei, which made her see the good in Gabimaru. Because he'd learned Yui's basic customs, Gabimaru would show his gratitude to anyone who helped him. He thanked Yuzuriha's team for freeing his head from one of the Sōshin's tentacles and praised Sagiri for her strength as well as for helping him find his resolution. Gabimaru is also a very faithful husband and is immune to seduction, as he didn't give in to Yuzuriha's advances when she tried to get him to work with her.

History

Beginning of life

After the birth of their newborn son in Iwa , a married jōnin couple pondered what name they should give their child. Since their son would have no choice but to grow up to become a shinobi in his future, mother and father knew that, like the names of the other people living in Iwa, his name should serve no purpose in his life. . After looking at the full moon they were standing under, the mother decided on the name Tsuki for their baby, feeling that the one-letter name was suitable as it was ominous and would offer her no love as she grew up.

Having wished to live a normal life outside the principles of the village, the married couple planned to leave Iwa with their baby. However, their plan was discovered by the chief and they were executed for their actions, which was done in front of Tsuki's eyes. The chief then took it upon himself to raise Tsuki by subjecting him to horrific shinobi training at a young age to become the next successor to the dreaded code name, "Gabimaru the Hollow". Through the training, Tsuki was molded into an emotionless child who cared very little for his own life or the lives of others. At one point, he was approached by a child named Shija who was ordered by Chief Iwa to fight him in a trial match and threatened to commit suicide simply to be in his presence, causing the child to flee in fear. Although this was how their first impression went, Tsuki was willing to help train Shija while they grew up together.

After surviving the training, showing great promise in his skills, and being considered responsible for the multiple deaths of other candidates over time, Tsuki was chosen by Chief Iwa to become the next title holder and participated in the rite of succession ceremony where he had to fight to the death with the Gabimaru of his time in order to fully earn his name. Having succeeded, the young man became known as Gabimaru. Once the ceremony was over, Gabimaru found Shija and saw them standing among the corpses of the Iwa shinobi. After Shija explained that they had killed them because they envied him, Gabimaru realized that it was Shija who had killed the former candidates who had made the chief believe it was his fault. Shija admits this and explains to Gabimaru that they had supported him all this time so that he could take the title of "Gabimaru".

Marital life

With his role as "Gabimaru the Hollow", Gabimaru spent his years mercilessly murdering his targets and became feared by many. Having proved his worth, Chief Iwa rewarded Gabimaru with his daughter Yui and had hoped they could produce more offspring for the village. On their first meeting, Gabimaru had felt that he wasn't opening up to her as much and wanted to try again the next time they were alone. On their next meeting, Gabimaru placed his hand on her head in an attempt to do so, much to Yui's confusion. Gabimaru confessed to him that he didn't think he deserved to live a normal life after being the burden of the lives he had taken, but Yui told him that, despite his past sins, he was qualified to have a normal life in his life like other. people and that he should have at least one person who accepted him as he was, to reassure him. As the two began to live together as a married couple, Gabimaru fell in love with Yui because she was the only person in his life who didn't see or fear him as a monster.

After returning from training severely injured, Gabimaru was chosen to represent Iwa in a sparring match against a rival shinobi clan and managed to easily kill the rival shinobi clan's representative. Later, Gabimaru and the other elite shinobi are given the mission of stealing a ledger. Gabimaru's team manages to complete the mission, but is ordered by the Hollow to have the men in possession of the ledger stunned instead of killed. After noticing this change in behavior in stark contrast to his cruel ways, as well as seeing him leave a letter of apology afterwards, the shinobi became suspicious of Gabimaru and assumed it was because he was married. Gabimaru quickly denied this allegation and declared that marriage could never change him.

Some time later, Gabimaru and the elite ninja are assigned to assassinate their former employer along with his wife. He is then chosen by one of the shinobi to end the married couple's lives, but Gabimaru chooses to spare them. This choice leads three of the elite shinobi to attack Gabimaru for his act of cowardice. Gabimaru tries to reason with them as he continues to receive their attacks, but is eventually driven to kill them. He then tells the couple that he'll cover for them and allows them to leave. Once the mission is over, Gabimaru returns to Yui's house but says he can't allow her to see his bloodied face as it would scare her. Yui tells him that she denies this and comes to embrace Gabimaru with a smile, saying that she only saw him as her husband. Gabimaru smiles as he wipes the blood from his face.

At one point, Gabimaru came to the village chief to ask permission to release him from his shinobi status and live a normal life with his married wife. Before he could receive an answer, the village chief charged Gabimaru with one last mission. However, after accepting the mission, Gabimaru is betrayed by Iwa, having been branded a traitor for giving in to his emotional weakness, and is arrested by the authorities who sentence him to death for his past crimes. Having convinced himself that living a normal life would be impossible, Gabimaru loses the will to live and chooses to forget his pleasant life with his beloved wife.

Island arc

Although he shows no resistance to wanting to live, Gabimaru finds himself surviving all the execution methods to which he has been condemned and talks to a female journalist in his cell about his past. Later, he is taken to his next execution and is again met by the woman, however, Gabimaru discovers that she is in fact a member of the Yamada clan, a clan of talented executioners, and reacts nervously. As Yamada Asaemon Sagiri prepares to behead Gabimaru from behind, the shinobi reacts by dodging and continues to avoid her sword attacks in confusion as to why he's trying to live. Sagiri explains that she sees beyond her own deception in wanting to die and concludes from her report that he wishes to see his wife again. Gabimaru refuses to accept Sagiri's answer, declaring that someone like him cannot live a normal life. On hearing this, Sagiri offers Gabimaru a chance to fulfill his wish if he were to carry out a task assigned by the shogun ., and in return he will receive a pardon that absolves him of his crimes, as well as protection. After being briefed on the details of how he should travel to a mystical island purported to be Shinsenkyō and retrieve the legendary Elixir of Life , Gabimaru burns the guards who tried to detain him and accepts Sagiri's offer with his wife in mind. The two then travel to Edo, where Gabimaru joins the other recruited criminals and is filled in for the mission.

After being reunited with a group of criminals condemned to death in Edo, Gabimaru and the other convicts are briefed by the shogun's servants on the details of the mission and ordered to begin a massacre until only a few are available to leave for the island. . During the slaughter, Gabimaru complains to the shogun's vassals about having been forced to commit an unnecessary murder and asks if there was any other solution. Having been angered by his failure to cooperate, one of the servants orders some criminals to kill Gabimaru. Seeing he had no other choice in the matter, Gabimaru kills the criminals and manages to become one of the ten survivors of the massacre. He then sets off for the island with Yamada Asaemon Sagiri as his assigned Yamada Asaemon monitor.

Once they have landed on the island, Gabimaru tells Sagiri about his leader's immortal body and how he connects to the elixir of life, but finds it hard to believe that he is on the island. Gabimaru then allows himself to be free of his restraints and starts complaining to Sagiri about the supplies he's been given. Sagiri pulls her sword towards Gabimaru's neck and tells him to bind her hands, reminding him that she is not his ally in the mission. Gabimaru cooperates and dislocates his neck after seeing an imminent attack from Warped Keiun , one of the nine criminals the ninja is competing against. Keiun tells Gabimaru that he will kill him and all the criminals on the island so that he can be the one to find the elixir of life. After the Asaemons declared that they would not interfere with the fighting between their criminals, Gabimaru had no choice but to fight back. Although the monk is heavily armored, Gabimaru kills Keiun with his own weapons and sighs with boredom. With his criminal dead, Kishō cuts the head off Warped Keiun's corpse and prepares to leave, while also offering Sagiri a chance to return home by killing Gabimaru. Having heard enough from him, Gabimaru silences Kishō and tells him that he doesn't care what he has to say since all he cares about is getting back to his wife. Gabimaru then becomes shocked after Kishō warns him that there might be a chance that Iwaparticipates in the mission. After the Asaemon leaves, Sagiri asks Gabimaru where he wanted to go next but suddenly runs into swords with him. Sagiri demanded an answer for his actions, to which he responds by saying he wanted to kill her painlessly.

Having been warned by Kishō of Iwagakure's potential involvement, Gabimaru tells Sagiri that he had no time to lose in finding the elixir and had to kill her as she is an obstacle. As the two clashed, Gabimaru became confused as to why he was hesitating behind his attacks and began to have memories of when he learned what it means to feel his wife's sentimentality. However, after remembering his leader's words, Gabimaru cuts Sagiri's sword in half and proceeds to attack. Gabimaru sees that Sagiri has managed to block his sword attacks with her scabbard, but tells her that it was pointless for her to continue defending herself, and apologizes for having had no choice but to commit suicide. After Sagiri mocks Gabimaru for his apology, since she believed he was incapable of feeling, Gabimaru accepts, corners her, and prepares to kill her with his sword as he understands the fact that he is devoid of all emotion. However, having been influenced by his wife, Gabimaru stops in confusion and becomes frustrated, believing he won't survive if he gives in to his emotions and returns to his beloved's side again. Realizing his true colors, Sagiri disagrees with him about how embracing his emotions will make him weak and tells him it's strength. She then becomes willing to ignore his actions and promises him that if he were to face his emotions while reclaiming his life, she would support him through the journey. Finally, Gabimaru learns from Sagiri that he is no longer the man he once was, and allows his sword to be returned to its scabbard. Later, Gabimaru is confronted by a mysterious fish-like monster and fights it after sensing that it is dangerous. Gabimaru is injured after the monster defeats him and decides that the best option is for him and Sagiri to flee. However, once the pair are surrounded by more monsters, Gabimaru sees he has no choice but to fight back and focuses his mind on killing the monsters alone. Gabimaru notices that Sagiri is in danger of being attacked by one of the monsters and unconsciously saves her, much to his surprise, but soon finds himself in grave peril after one of the monster's tentacles wraps itself around his head. However, Gabimaru is saved in no time by Yamada Asaemon Genji and is approached by one of the participating criminals, Yuzuriha ., a kunoichi he has already met at the Edo gathering, along with his assigned Asaemon, Yamada Asaemon Senta . Gabimaru thanks her for her help, but wonders why she did it, since they were competitors. Yuzuriha replies that she wishes to form an alliance with him until the elixir is found, but hears Gabimaru's refusal, saying he doesn't trust her. Yuzuriha tells him that they don't have to trust each other as long as they can use each other to the end, and persuades him by saying that she could provide information on the island's insects, such as butterflies with human faces, after using Moro Makiya as bait. After hearing her out, Gabimaru agrees to team up with her and turns to find Sagiri unconscious.

After Sagiri wakes up, Gabimaru makes kikatsugan from what he found on the island and tells them how he couldn't find the elixir of life based on the representation he was given. He then tells them about the samurai flowers and how they connect to the samurai who were first sent to the island. Hearing Senta present her findings on the characteristics of the statues, as well as Sagiri's explanation of how she took note of the monsters possessing no signs of organs or genitalia, Gabimaru is delighted to learn that this may be a clue to finding the elixir and how he has a chance of getting home. As night falls, Gabimaru stands guard for the night while being watched over by Sagiri. Gabimaru asks Sagiri if she was recovering well after injuring her in their previous conflict, which shocks Sagiri as she didn't expect much concern from him. He also thanks her for helping him find the resolve to face all the threats that were to come on the mission and compliments her on how strong he considered her to be.

The next day, Gabimaru notices that Sagiri is about to be attacked by Rokurōta and goes in to chase him away. Seeing that it would be impossible to escape with everyone, Gabimaru tells Sagiri to move elsewhere while he takes care of fighting Rokurōta. Gabimaru notices Yuzuriha looking up from a tree and asks for his support, however, the kunoichi refuses after reminding him of the roles they play in their alliance. As he begins to fight the giant, Gabimaru sees that no other technique at his disposal will be able to affect Rokurōta and realizes that the only possible way for him to find an opening is to fight alongside someone.

After dodging an attack from Rokurōta, Gabimaru notices Sagiri next to him after successfully chopping off one of Rokurōta's fingers. The two then immediately asked for each other's help in fighting the giant. Gabimaru proposes the plan of using Sagiri to decapitate Rokurōta's head, but the Asaemon tells him that her neck is too high for her to deliver the fatal blow. He then suggests bringing Rokurōta to her knees by cutting off her legs, however, both struggle to execute the strategy due to Rokurōta's rampaging attacks preventing Sagiri from finding an opening. After dropping his guard by Rokurōta's noisy stomach, Gabimaru is struck by Rokurōta's palm and is badly injured while Sagiri defends him from Rokurōta's next barrage of attacks. Seeing that normal tactics weren't working,

After immolating himself with fire, Gabimaru unleashes a barrage of flaming ninjutsu attacks on Rokurōta with the intention of deflecting the giant into the trees to catch fire. Gabimaru passes on his plan to Sagiri, telling him that he plans to smother Rokurōta with smoke from the burning trees. The plan eventually becomes a success as the two see Rokurōta begin to fall to his knees. Sagiri approaches Rokurōta and prepares to decapitate him, however, Rokurōta notices Sagiri and prepares to attack.

Gabimaru enters to hold the giant's arm and asks Sagiri to hurry up and get it cut before he loses his strength.

After successfully defeating Rokurōta, Gabimaru and Sagiri move away from the burning woods and catch up with Yuzuriha and Senta . The group is then shocked to see an abandoned village that is supposed to be the residence of the Sennin's place of residence on the island. Gabimaru declares that it didn't matter who or what lived on the island, but whether or not they were their allies or enemies.

Lord Tensen's bow

Gabimaru feels as if someone is watching him and turns around to find a small person spying on them from behind a tree. After pulling down their hoods, Gabimaru discovers it's a little girl. He then dodges an attack from a tree life-form, but instead of engaging in combat, Gabimaru concentrates on the girl trying to escape, thinking she might know more about the island. Sagiri runs with Gabimaru and tries to warn the girl that they have no intention of harming her. Despite her reassurance, the little girl tries to defend herself from Sagiri by throwing a punch but is blocked by Gabimaru, who notices how surprisingly strong her punch is and also feels something strange coming from her that makes him bleed. Desperate to get her to tell him what he needs to know, Gabimaru restrains the girl with vines and demands her cooperation, which makes her cry in fear. After Sagiri calms her down, the two take her with them as they regroup with Yuzuriha and Senta.

The tree leads the group back to the village. Sagiri doesn't know if they should trust him, but Gabimaru tells her he was willing to take a chance but assures her that if it fools them, he'll take care of it. The tree being tells them that he won't deceive them and that the village is safe from monsters, revealed to be called the Sōshin , and butterflies. After they arrive at the village, Gabimaru asks the tree being about the island and the elixir. The monster reveals that the island is called Kotaku and that the elixir, also known as Tan, is real and lies at the center of the island. However, he tells them that they will soon encounter a group of immortal beings called Lord Tensen who will not allow them to leave the island. Gabimaru and Yuzuriha see the tree's tone as a threat and point their weapons at it. The tree being tells them that he harbors no ill will and is only speaking the truth. He then watches as the tree breaks off part of its hand and demonstrates its regenerative abilities, proving that the elixir exists. Gabimaru looks towards the girl and asks if she has the ability too, but receives a scolding from Sagiri and Yuzuriha.

Later, Gabimaru walks with Sagiri to the bath and discusses whether they can trust Mei and Hōko ... Once they enter, Gabimaru accidentally walks in on Mei undressed. Despite this incident, Gabimaru undresses because he used to bathe with others in his village. As he washes, he thinks back to when his wife advised him to relax his body and how he told her not to hide his scar. Gabimaru looks at Mei and gives her the same advice about the marking on her back. This advice puts Mei at ease standing next to Gabimaru. After washing up, Gabimaru reminded himself that he had no time to lose in finding the elixir. Once there, Senta overdoes her information-gathering but insists on keeping watch at night. However, he falls asleep next to Gabimaru which gives him the opportunity to leave for Hōrai.

as Gabimaru rushes toward Hōrai, he comes upon an area full of strange, motionless tree beings chanting sutras. He continues on until he finds a large door. Seeing how it's made by the man, Gabimaru realizes he's arrived at Hōrai and prepares to enter. However, an unknown woman appears behind him and becomes irritated by his appearance after his fight with another group of humans... After Gabimaru realized that she was transforming humans into Elixir of Life and had attacked her. As the two fight, Gabimaru discovers the woman's true identity. Just when he had the upper hand in the battle, Gabimaru is overwhelmed by her counter-attacks. Gabimaru recovers and asks if he is the infamous Lord Tensen. Gabimaru continues to fight Lord Tensen and notices that his attacks are ineffective. However, he manages to land a fatal blow and wonders what has changed. He then transforms into a woman and launches a series of invincible attacks at Gabimaru. Gabimaru struggles to protect himself against these attacks, but pushes forward and encounters a barrage of attacks. He gains the upper hand and prevents him from regenerating. Once on the ground, Gabimaru asks her where the elixir was, but is shocked to see the blossoming female turn into a monster.

Before Gabimaru can come up with a strategy, the monster attacks with lightning bolts, severely wounding him. He then becomes overwhelmed by the monster's attacks and is unable to fight back. As he is beaten, he dreams of waking up to a peaceful life with his wife, believing that the events that occurred were a nightmare. Although he took into consideration the fact that he was dreaming about her, he was happy to have been able to see her and told her that he might not get the chance to see her in real life. After waking up, in a last-ditch effort, Gabimaru set himself on fire and tried to kill the monster with himself. Gabimaru is freed from his grip and thinks of his wife as he begins to lose consciousness. Unbeknownst to him, Mei appears at Gabimaru's side and helps him escape by creating a crater leading them down a cliff.

Gabimaru wakes up from his ordeal and assesses the situation. He realizes that the being can be killed, but needs helpers to do it. He is then met by Tamiya Gantetsusai and Yamada Asaemon Fuchi. The two criminals then predict each other's movements before attempting to actually attack. Fuchi stops them from this exchange, deeming it pointless. Fuchi drew his sword and wanted to extract information from Gabimaru's experience on the island. Gabimaru pondered his options and decided to try to join forces with them. Gantetsusai drew his sword to see if he was trying to deceive them but was convinced, although he was disappointed that he showed weakness in front of him. He then tells them all about his experience on the island and how he met Lord Tensen, which piques their interest. Gantetsusai agreed to team up with him, but Fuchi asked if his decision was the right one since Gabimaru was also asking for forgiveness. Gantetsusai declared that he had no interest in forgiveness and expressed his desire to become legendary. After successfully convincing them, Gabimaru forms an alliance with both of them. Fuchi suggests sharing information with which Gabimaru agrees and starts with Mei. Gabimaru is then shocked to see her grow up and hear her speak for the first time. He then quickly asked her if she knew anything about the elixir and what power she had used to save him. Mei explained that her power was calledTao, but Gabimaru became confused by her strange explanation. The group is then approached by the Sōshin and prepares to strike back. Watching the horde, Gabimaru notices something unfamiliar among the Sōshin.

Gabimaru and Gantetsusai fight the Sōshin. He then asked what Fuchi was doing. He responds by saying that he was analyzing the corpses of the monsters and tells him about their differences. He then wonders who Mei is, thinking back to how she's not an ordinary human after helping him escape. She sees him looking at her wickedly and starts to cry, making him realize that she's a girl at heart. He's then covered in blood after Gantetsusai criticizes him for making her cry and says he wouldn't be liked by women, but Gabimaru points out that he doesn't mind since he's married, which shocks both Gantetsusai and Fuchi. He asked if he was also married, to which he replied that he had several wives. Mei is then captured by a Dōshi who is pleased with their meeting and addresses her politely. Gabimaru is shocked after the Dōshi explains to them that Mei is similar to Lord Tensen and begins to rethink his decision to care for her. However, he moves to Mei's side and tells the Dōshi that he will protect her even if she had nothing to do with him. He then prepares to fight the Dōshi alongside another who joins his side.

Gabimaru watches the two Dōshi summon a swarm of insects and decides to think about a strategy before attacking. However, Gantetsusai steps in to cut off the butterflies and declares that he seeks revenge on the Butterfly Dōshi who caused him to lose his left hand. Gantetsusai prepares to attack again, but Gabimaru sees that he has been hit by an invisible attack like the one in his fight with Lord Tensen. Gabimaru warns Gantetsusai of the technique and the two defend themselves against the Dōshi's attacks. They then accidentally attack each other and start arguing. After the Dōshi asks Gabimaru why he wanted to protect Mei, Gabimaru begins to realize that his behavior has changed since he arrived on the island. He accepted his personality change and told the Dōshi that he was repaying a debt to him. He then asked why they wanted Mei. The Dōshi explains that they need Mei as a partner to perform the Bochu Jutsu in which they combine their Yin and Yang energies by having sex. He explains that since Mei possesses only Yin energy, she was considered inferior to Lord Tensen and was expelled from the palace with the possibility of dying or becoming part of the Dōshi's training. After hearing that the scar marked her for this purpose, Gabimaru becomes angry and tells the Dōshi to stop regarding her as an object. Gabimaru notices that the Dōshi's transformation resembles Lord Tensen's monstrous transformation. He battles the Centipede Dōshi and manages to dodge its barrages of invisible projectiles. The Butterfly Dōshi then sends a swarm of butterflies towards Gabimaru. After being informed by Gantetsusai that the butterflies are dangerous, Gabimaru expels a great torrent of fire to ignite the swarm and block the two Dōshi. Gabimaru finds it difficult to fight the Dōshi without understanding the works of Tao. Interpreting Mei's words, Fuchi tells Gabimaru that he is using his strength too much and must accept his weakness. Mei then helps Gabimaru gain insight into his Tao by holding his hand. Gabimaru finds it hard to believe that he must use his weakness, but, after Mei tells him that weakness gives birth to strength, Gabimaru remembers something similar to what Sagiri told him earlier, causing him to awaken his Tao. Gabimaru then says he got the idea of how Tao works and steps forward to face the Dōshi again. The Dōshi attack Gabimaru with invisible Tao projectiles, but he manages to see them and dodge each one. Gabimaru begins to understand Tao's nature and destroys the Centipede Dōshi's arm, saying he no longer stands a chance against him. Gabimaru begins to understand Tao's nature and destroys Centipede Dōshi's arm, saying he no longer stands a chance against him. After dispelling the Dōshi's transformation, Gabimaru declares that he was ready to fight Lord Tensen.

After emerging victorious, Gabimaru orders the Centipede Dōshi to tell him everything he needed to know. The Dōshi explains that he and two other Dōshi have been ordered by Lord Tensen to see how the humans who have touched down differ from humans in the past and whether they present a threat. He then hears Gantetsusai coming to deliver the final blow. Thinking he has let his guard down, the Dōshi attack Gabimaru. However, Gabimaru reacts quickly and kills the Butterfly Dōshi while Gantetsusai kills the Centipede Dōshi. Having just acquired the ability to sense Tao, Gabimaru still finds it a mystery but believes that if he can dig deep into Tao's nature, he can inflict damage on his enemies. He then gets a shout-out from Gantetsusai for the way things ended with the Dōshi. After eliminating the Dōshi, Fuchi suggests using Mei as a source of information, but Gantetsusai suggests taking her home. Gabimaru tells Mei that he was willing to do whatever she asked since she saved his life twice. Before she can say what's on her mind, Mei and Gantetsusai watch in shock as Gabimaru's nose bleeds and he passes out.

After carrying his unconscious body to a cave halfway down the valley, Gabimaru wakes up and jumps back to see Gantetsusai, Fuchi and Mei. With his awakening, Fuchi reviews what they know about Tao, however, Gabimaru is unable to remember the events that occurred or recognize the people in front of him, concluding that he has amnesia. Gabimaru's amnesia brings him back to his former self as Gabimaru the Hollow. He decides to accept the situation until he can determine whether or not he can trust them. After ending their discussion, Gabimaru sits outside and is greeted by Mei, who asks him if he was feeling well. Gabimaru says he's fine, but Mei senses that his Tao is not yet fully formed.

The next day, the four head up the valley to reach the Hōrai gate, however, they are greeted by Aza Chōbei and Aza Tōma. Chōbei smiles and responds by attacking Gabimaru. Gabimaru counters by getting on top of him and slams his neck to kill him. However, as Mei warns him that Chōbei has large quantities of Tao, the bandit survives, picks up Gabimaru and tackles him to the ground. Gabimaru believes that Chōbei is one of the immortals the others were talking about and plans to hold him in order to extract information. However, Gabimaru is unable to inflict lasting damage on Chōbei due to his regeneration abilities and is overpowered by his use of Tao. He then decides to become "Hollow" and pins Chōbei to incinerate him and himself. Chōbei is surprised that Gabimaru is willing to sacrifice himself to kill him. Gabimaru explains that his life didn't matter as a ninja and as long as Chōbei has something to live for, he'll never triumph. After hearing this, Chōbei triggers a transformation and attacks Gabimaru. Gabimaru tries to defend himself against Chōbei's rampage but continues to exert his body. He then pauses for a brief moment after suddenly remembering someone but chooses to charge directly to attack Chōbei. After Tōma tries to stop Chōbei, Gabimaru sees an opening to attack knowing he could die.

As he prepares to use his ninjutsu, Mei rushes in and releases his Tao to create a huge crater. Gabimaru stands over the edge and throws a few stones to attack Chōbei in a last-ditch effort. He then falls unconscious and is carried to the Hōrai gate where the group meets Sagiri , Yamada Asaemon Shion , Yuzuriha , Nurugai and Hōko.... After Gabimaru wakes up, he doesn't know the people he sees. After showing signs that he wasn't himself, Sagiri asked who he was. Gabimaru replies with his infamous epithet, leading Sagiri to understand that he is not himself. Gabimaru attacks Sagiri but is protected by Shion and Fuchi. She then tries to reason with him, but Gabimaru pushes her away, forcing Sagiri to use force, pinning him to the ground. As she uses Tao restoration, she explains to him that they need his strength to get home and that there was someone he needed to return to. With his Tao fully restored, Gabimaru successfully recovers his memories.

The group moves to a cave to be safe from Lord Tensen's sensory field in Hōrai. Gabimaru confirms to everyone that he has regained his memories and wishes to continue searching for the elixir so that he can be reunited with his wife with the full protection of forgiveness. Hearing this, Yuzuriha explains his earlier theory that his wife is an illusion as a way for his boss to control him. Gabimaru believes she does exist, however, Yuzuriha doubts his suspicions as he relies solely on his feelings. After Gabimaru gives a description of her, he tells them that based on these feelings, his wife, Yui , is real and can only confirm this if he is able to return home.

Seeing that he must prepare to fight Lord Tensen again, Gabimaru sits outside and calls Gantetsusai, Tōma, Shion and Nurugai to help him train with Tao. As they attack him, Gabimaru begins to understand Tao's nature and believes they must use Tensen's Tao against themselves in order to achieve victory. After finishing with the training section, Gabimaru discusses the group's next course of action with Shion. They are then alerted by Mei to the arrival of another group on the island. Shion and Fuchi think it's Shugen and the other Asaemon who have been sent as reinforcements by Eizen, along with another group of criminals... Gabimaru asks Sagiri if Shugen would be another ally, to which she agrees and explains his strength. However, Gabimaru learns from Shion the infamous story of Shugen executing the Silver Serpent yakuza group along with their families since they were related to criminals, which proves that Shugen won't think of allying himself with the group as he despises criminals or anyone working with. them. Shion goes on to explain the plan to form two teams where one finds Tan and the other finds an escape route off the island. He then explains his strategy of using their Tao attributes to hinder and defeat Lord Tensen. After hearing Yuzuriha's suggestion to abandon the mission and go into hiding after escaping from the island, Shion gives everyone the option of going it alone or following him into the cave and continuing with the plan. Unanimously, everyone follows Shion and chooses to cooperate in finding the elixir and escaping the island together.

Using the information provided by Mei, the group devise strategies to escape from the island using the ships in the palace and learn that the elixir is in Rien's laboratory. Shion then pulls Gabimaru and Yuzuriha to instruct the group in terms of espionage using Tao. While Yuzuriha teaches his lesson on masking his presence using Tao, Gabimaru teaches the group how to use Tao physically by taking advantage of the Tao current and starts them off by having them practice dislocating their necks, joints and stopping their hearts. He then tells them about the Tao current and explains how they can use it against Lord Tensen to fight back. Once the course is over, Gabimaru is placed on the elixira recovery team with Sagiri and Yuzuriha. Gantetsusai suggests that they should send Mei off on her own without having to wait for the elixir recovery team, since she wishes to leave the island. However, Gabimaru asks if there's anything she should do before leaving. Mei confesses that she wishes to see her creator, Jofuku , and Rien to ask him why they underwent a major change in the past, then leave the island to start a new life. Remembering his wife's words, Gabimaru promises Mei that he will see them again.

During their strategy meeting, the group examines the layout of the palace and how they plan to infiltrate it. Knowing that the palace interior is constantly changing, Gabimaru explains that he and Yuzuriha will sneak over the inner door and feel the layout of the palace building. Once this is done, Gabimaru says they should activate and deactivate their Tao suppression to scout the area and eliminate the guards. Knowing that part of the plan is not to meet Lord Tensen, Sagiri asks about the possibility of this happening. Gabimaru explains that if this were to happen, they would have to move on to their second plan of retaliation. Following their planned strategy, the group decides to infiltrate the palace tonight. Before leaving, Gabimaru listens to Mei discuss the fusion between a person and Flower Tao, using it as a backup plan. He then heads back to Mu Dan's corpse and retrieves one of his plant stingers to launch the plan.

The elixir recovery team manages to sneak in and signals to the others that it's safe to continue. Sagiri asks Gabimaru if the time has come for the mission to finally come to an end. Gabimaru answers yes and says that everyone will leave the island tonight. The team explores the castle, detecting Tao structures and shooting the Dōshi on guard. After successfully entering the palace building, Gabimaru senses the layout of the room but suddenly feels Tao gathered into a single entity. The entity turns out to be Ran, who has suppressed his Tao while awaiting their arrival after being informed by Chōbei .

Knowing that Ran's Tao is capable of hindering his own, Gabimaru remembers the escape plan should he come across a Tensen with a troublesome attribute. Ran tries to beg Mei to return to their side and explains that the elixir of life is finished, shocking Gabimaru. Mei refuses and says she's come to say good-bye. Ran becomes disappointed and sees that the Rite of Just Consumption will have to continue, revealing that Lord Tensen has located the others and plans to capture them as sacrifices for the grandmaster. Seeing that their initial plan to avoid Lord Tensen has failed, the group moves on to their second plan to fight them.

Gabimaru tells Sagiri and Mei to go ahead and find the elixir while he and Yuzuriha fight Ran. However, Mei warns Gabimaru that they are not in the Rentan temple where the elixir is located. Ran then launches his attack, revealing that he had refurbished the palace before their arrival. Gabimaru and Yuzuriha confront Ran, but are unable to harm him because of his Tao elemental, and Ran is able to block Yuzuriha's attacks because of his Tao armor. Gabimaru clashes with him a second time, but is quickly defeated. Having a good idea of the situation, Gabimaru tells Yuzuriha that it's time to initiate their strategy. Gabimaru rushes in again and manages to hit Ran, executing his plan to use Ran's Tao against him. He manages to inflict more damage on Ran, but finds it difficult to withstand Ran's attacks on his body due to his weak Tao defense. He then thinks of using his second plan, but saves it for later. Ran is impressed by everything Gabimaru has learned about Tao since his arrival on the island and thinks he's talented. However, Gabimaru disagrees with his statement that he is "talented" and explains that his actions are the result of everyone's efforts and sacrifices to defeat him and Lord Tensen. Gabimaru holds Ran back long enough to allow Sagiri and Mei to head for Rentan's temple and has Ran cut in half by Yuzuriha. Yuzuriha prepares to finish him off but is warned by Gabimaru to stop as Ran begins to transform. The two then prepare to fight him in his Kishikai state. Gabimaru and Yuzuriha are unable to fight Ran's monstrous strength and find themselves in a desperate situation. Gabimaru and Yuzuriha try to retreat while they can, but are unable to outrun Ran. As Ran is about to launch his attack on Yuzuriha, Gabimaru catches him in time but is overpowered by his strength and has his left shoulder cut. Gabimaru is then thrown aside and slowly begins to die. However, after injecting Flower Tao from one of Mu Dan's stingers into his hand, Gabimaru stands up with his wound completely healed. Gabimaru now retaliates by being able to regenerate from Ran's attacks. Yuzuriha is shocked by Gabimaru's approach but chooses to help him in his battle after listening to his conviction.

Gabimaru first sends a burst of fire to overstimulate him with light, robbing him of his sense of judgment and timing, and attacks him with a barrage of ninjutsu with Yuzuriha. After buying enough time, Ran Kishikai mode collapses after consuming too much Tao. He then attacks Ran in his decrepit state and yells at Yuzuriha to attack before Ran has a chance to recover his lost Tao. Ran points out to Gabimaru that she will not make the attempt, as she is weak in Tao and her next attack will cost her her life. Yuzuriha agrees, but says she was ready to do it. Ran then defends herself by forming spikes from the ground. Gabimaru helps Yuzuriha avoid them by lifting her into the air. She then descends and finally puts an end to Ran by destroying his tanden.

Once the battle is over, Gabimaru checks on Yuzuriha. Yuzuriha warns Gabimaru that Arborfication will eventually take over his body, but knows that he was never going to see his wife without risk. He then suggests that they should catch up with Sagiri and Mei at Rentan Temple, but Yuzuriha tells him to go on without her. Before leaving, Gabimaru thanks Yuzuriha once again for saving his life the second time they met and leaves. Gabimaru rushes to Rentan's temple but feels the effects of the vines spreading through his body, knocking him unconscious.

After a while, Gabimaru is surrounded by four Iwa shinobi and is about to be attacked. However, he quickly wakes up and kills them instantly. Recognizing who they are, Gabimaru thinks that Shija, the next Gabimaru, is here. He then prevents himself from being spotted by the Dōshi and shinobi running around the palace. Later, Gabimaru is approached by Kinkakubō and Ginkakubō, who transform their faces into Chief Iwa and Yui to cause trauma to his mind. However, Gabimaru tells them that their attempt doesn't work because he's a shinobi and is able to notice the flaws in their ninjutsu. The two knelt down out of respect and cooperated by telling him everything they knew, such as the deaths of three well-known shinobi and the fact that Shija had killed Gabimaru's other candidates and ensured that his reputation was still valued, much to Gabimaru's displeasure. Gabimaru also wanted to know the real reason why Iwagakure had come to the island, but Kinkakubō told him that they didn't know what the Iwagakure leader's intentions were. The three then hear the signal confirming that the shinobi have recovered the elixir of life, leading Kinkakubō to ask Gabimaru to consume Ginkakubō's toxic saliva as a reasonable way to end his life. Gabimaru refuses and asks Ginkakubō to walk away from him releasing his killing intent, declaring that he will not allow them to stop him from escaping the island. Gabimaru hears Kinkakubō tell him it would be pointless to go home since Yui doesn't exist, but doesn't believe him because he knows that Iwa specializes in disrupting the mentality of their targets. The shinobi then moves in to attack him with genin lined up to fight him to the death. Gabimaru quickly defeats them using Sensory Tao and challenges them to try and prevent him from achieving his goal. Gabimaru quickly defeats them using Sensory Tao and challenges them to try and prevent him from achieving his goal.

Gabimaru gains the upper hand by defeating the genin and takes the time to use his Sensory Tao to detect unfolding events, seeing that enemies and allies are clashing, Shija is located at the floodgates, Sagiri is safe for the moment, and unfortunately sees Fuchi lying unconscious on the ground. He then decides to rush to Rentan's temple to find Sagiri, steal the elixir of life from the ninja team and escape the island through the floodgates. As he runs across the rooftops, Gabimaru sees Zhu Jin emerge from the main temple completely fused with the Banko.like a gigantic plant monster. Gabimaru's Flower Tao then begins to resonate with the Banko fused with Zhu Jin, sending him into agony as flowers begin to sprout from his body, but he removes them and presses on.

Gabimaru manages to arrive at the Rentan Temple where everyone is gathered but continues to suffer from Zhu Jin's effects on his Tao. Despite seeing that he's not in perfect condition to continue fighting, Chōbei, whose body is also beginning to suffer, asks Gabimaru if he had anything to lose, unlike the first time they met. Gabimaru replies that he does after remembering Yui and says he has no choice but to keep going. The Iwagakure shinobi see that Gabimaru is distracted and try to attack him with a kunai, but are thrown back by Jikka. The two groups then decide to take possession of the shinobi equipment. Sagiri takes issue with the fact that the situation is still the same as before, but Gabimaru tells her it may be different. With everyone well equipped, Gabimaru teams up with Sagiri to strengthen his Tao and sets off to destroy the tandens.

After arriving at Banko's Metal tanden, Gabimaru and Sagiri are approached by Gui Fa clones created from the tanden and prepare to overtake them. However, Shija arrives to quickly get rid of them and directs her attention to Gabimaru with utter delight. Gabimaru sees that Shija will be a problem and tries to ask for their help. Shija happily agrees to help him, but says they'll do it by bringing out his true fighting instincts in a battle. With this decision, Gabimaru has no choice but to engage in an intense battle with Shija in his weakened state. During the battle, in an attempt to destroy the Banko's tanden, Gabimaru allows himself to be hit by Shija in his direction, but only manages to destroy the statue lying beneath. In an unfortunate turn of events, Gabimaru finds himself unable to muster enough strength to strike back as Shija targets Sagiri after realizing she's there to help Gabimaru recover his Tao. Gabimaru shouts at Sagiri to run but hears her refusal, choosing to stand up to her enemy. However, she is soon felled and forced to take painful medication.

Shija brings their attention back to Gabimaru and asks why they're trying to cling to life. Gabimaru replies that he wants to live a normal life with his wife, and denies Shija's claim that she doesn't exist. Shija explains that Yui is incapable of showing real emotions and that their relationship has been false in order to hide the murders committed. After receiving confirmation that Yui really does exist, Gabimaru recovers, his body healing from his intense emotions. With his body fully recovered, Gabimaru faces Shija again, resolving to live a normal life with his wife, and manages to inflict damage on the shinobi while automatically recovering from theirs. He then goes on the defensive as Shija attacks him with everything they've got. After successfully hitting where his heart is, Gabimaru applauds Shija for launching an attack that would have killed him if he were still human, but says he's not ready to die to get back to Yui. He then grabs Shija, asking them not to hold a grudge, and unleashes a powerful Hibōshi to finish them off.

Gabimaru watches as Shija signals the Iwagakure shinobi to commit suicide in order to clear a path for Gabimaru and hears them ask if he would consider killing them again if they were to be reborn, to which Gabimaru answers yes, much to Shija's delight as they pass away. Gabimaru then continues with Sagiri, destroying Banko's Metal tanden after Yuzuriha's next signal. Although the group has succeeded in its coordinated attack on the tandens, Banko fused with Zhu Jin is brought back to life after being rejuvenated by the morning sunlight and puts the survivors in a difficult situation after exhausting their strength. However, Aza Chōbei manages to destroy the plant monster after devising a plan to destroy its roots in order to sever the regeneration link with the tandens.

ith Zhu Jin's fused Banko destroyed, Gabimaru and Sagiri regroup with everyone else at the gate entrance. The survivors enter only to find that all but one of the ships have been destroyed. Having learned that the ship cannot sail without removing the wreckage, Gabimaru makes a desperate attempt by jumping into the water to remove the wreckage with the help of Sagiri and Nurugai. However, Gabimaru sees that Mei has transformed into her Kishikai to help them clear a path, which worries both him and Sagiri as she risks losing her life. Mei returns to normal to embrace the two and thanks Gabimaru for giving her courage and thanks Sagiri for taking care of her hair. She then has them transported to the ship, revealing that their last moment together was an illusion.Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku | Tema de abertura do anime é divulgado online

Knowing that they'll be fighting Rien soon, Gabimaru strategizes with Yuzuriha and thinks that the only way to do it is to try to make him exhaust his Tao in the same way they fought Ran. He is also informed of Rien's plan to revive Jofuku's golden body. Shortly afterwards, the survivors reach Rien's burning ship, which has been slightly damaged by Gantetsusai after the swordsman jumped aboard earlier to slow him down. Seeing that he's the only one with any resistance to the flames, Gabimaru jumps aboard alone, praises Gantetsusai for the job he's done and tells him he'll take care of the rest from now on. The ninja then engages in a three-way battle with Shugen and Rien. However, Gabimaru soon realizes how powerful Rien is compared to his battles with Zhu Jin and Ran. He then sees the other survivors board the ship to join the battle, thinking they have a better chance if they launch an all-out attack. Rien comments on how she doubts a gathering of humans will do anything against her, to which Gabimaru replies that, despite what she thinks, they'll do anything to survive and get home.

After the survivors make a coordinated all-out attack on Rien, Gabimaru shouts to Sagiri and Shion to deliver the final blow to his tanden after he and Gantetsusai give them an opening to attack. The humans then manage to take down the Tensen after Sagiri and Shion cut Rien in half with their combined attack. However, the events turn out to be an illusion created by Rien, who decides to enter his Kishikai to end their resistance. Gabimaru attempts to use a technique against Rien but is struck by a bolt of Tao from her. After Rien has dismantled the outside of the ship, Gabimaru grabs her from behind and sets herself on fire to incinerate her. However, after receiving an image of Yui in his mind, Gabimaru ceases his flames. This leaves him venerable to the Tao of Nothing as it resonates with his own, causing Gabimaru to undergo arborification as a result.

While still fondly remembering his wife, Gabimaru begins to succumb to the effects of Arborification. However, Sagiri takes a drastic approach to saving Gabimaru by decapitating him, cutting off his deep-rooted limbs and bringing his body into contact with hers to use Tao Restoration and accelerate the rate of his healing. Gabimaru finds himself fully recovered and astonished at Sagiri's handling of the situation. Despite being warned by her of the difficult situation, Gabimaru says that as long as they're alive, they can't give up until they're dead, and thanks her for saving him. The two then prepare to fight Rien.

Gabimaru fights with Sagiri using coordinated attacks against Rien, then catches him out of the way of Rien's Tao lightning attack and rushes to strike Tensen's tanden with Sagiri's sword, but finds that the attack is ineffective as the troublesome Wood attribute loses the necessary power after the sword was in his possession. Gabimaru then tries another strategy using Sagiri as a human sword but rejects the idea after realizing it wasn't the perfect plan, followed by the Asaemon woman berating him for attempting such a desperate stunt. Following the plan they had worked out earlier, Gabimaru heads for Jofuku's golden corpse, along with the shipment of Paradise butterflies, to destroy them both and give Sagiri an opening to strike Rien's tanden after being struck with anger. However, after noticing a post-wedding brazier, a wreath of flowers and a pair of traditional wedding clothes laid out on the ground, Gabimaru realizes that Rien is married to Jofuku and hesitates to continue, given that he sympathizes with being married. Shugen then becomes the one who destroys Jofuku's corpse after jumping to cut the golden body in half. Gabimaru and Sagiri's plan succeeds after Sagiri intervenes to divide Rien after his guard is down.

With Rien defeated, Gabimaru recovers the elixir of life and begins to see the ship collapse, as it is no longer supported by Rien's Tao. He then yells at Sagiri to grab his hand as they make their way out. However, Gabimaru is shocked after Sagiri is shot in the stomach and sees that Rien, who has managed to repair his body using manifested lotus flowers, is the one responsible. His left hand is then destroyed by her and is attacked by the furious Tensen, who has sworn to take everything away from him and the other humans. Before continuing to suffer at his hands, Rien asks Gabimaru why he chose to hesitate in destroying Jofuku, to which he replies that he has received a vision of his wife at this moment, much to Rien's shock. Gabimaru then tells Rien that he understands where she's coming from, since they both have people they love very much.

As they return to Edo, Gabimaru, Yuzuriha and Gantetsusai face a dilemma to decide who will get forgiveness. Gabimaru hears Sagiri's confession about how any executioner like her has come to bond with criminals and is drawn into a comical discussion by Yuzuriha about how everyone on board is evil. After Gabimaru is told by Yuzuriha and Gantetsusai that he and his wife are bad, Gabimaru reacts by laughing at how stupid the idea of Yui being bad is, much to everyone's shock. Gabimaru is then invited by everyone to tell them about his wife, which he happily agrees to do. Later, Gabimaru and Yuzuriha decide that Gantetsusai should be the one to return to Edo and receive forgiveness. Jikka agrees to cooperate with them by making a false report to the shogun about how they all died during the mission and suggests that they give up their names as well as their old lives as measures. Gabimaru is also informed by Jikka that he will arrange for him to be reunited with his wife. After Shion, Nurugai and Yuzuriha have left, Gabimaru also prepares to leave. He then locks Sagiri's eyes and the two prepare to say their last words to each other. However, Gabimaru and Sagiri decide to part silently on good terms with a smile. After ten days, Gabimaru heads for the planned meeting area and is shocked to see his beloved wife, who also spots him with tears in her eyes and runs towards her eagerly. Having finally been reunited, and Iwa disbanded due to the village chief's illegal actions regarding the shinobi sent during the second landing, Gabimaru and Yui happily set about starting a new life with each other.

After a year, Gabimaru is visited by Sagiri and Yuzuriha, but remains asleep while the women meet Yui.

Abilities and powers

Gabimaru is a shinobi prodigy who was deemed far too dangerous to face. As a child, Gabimaru already possessed a raw talent that not only enabled him to become one of the few children to survive Iwa's deadly training regimes, but also put him ahead of the rest by becoming the next "Gabimaru the Hollow". He is recognized in Iwagakure as the strongest "Gabimaru the Hollow" in history and has become both feared and admired by his peers, including other ninja villages. His infamous reputation for killing his targets made him a cold-blooded monster to society. Even outnumbered, Gabimaru proved more than capable of single-handedly taking down his enemies. Among his murderous records prior to capture, Gabimaru is said to have killed 20 men without sustaining any damage. He was able to survive a massacre full of criminals sentenced to death like himself while his hands were tied. Gabimaru even managed to slaughter the 54 Iwagakure shinobi sent to kill him for his betrayal, where not one but his equal Shija managed to scratch him in their attempts.

During the events on Kotaku , Gabimaru was able to effortlessly kill the condemned Warped Keiun even when his hands were tied and stood up to the giant Rokurōta , whose monstrous strength caused the death of two high-ranking Asaemon. He waged his own battle against the invincible members of Lord Tensen , beings who wield divine powers, and almost defeated them, which eventually prompted them to use their Kishikai to defeat him. Among the surviving humans who infiltrated Hōrai, Gabimaru's global abilities caught Rien's as the most valuable as an "ingredient" for Lord Tensen's ritual, declaring that it was the first time in centuries that a human like Gabimaru had appeared on Kotaku. After arriving on Kotaku, Gabimaru became one of the first in 1,000 years to successfully survive the trials the island had to offer, reaching Hōrai where Lord Tensen previously resided and successfully escaping.

Physical capabilities

Gabimaru possesses immense physical strength, his bare fists and legs being strong enough to pierce the bodies of humans and other living creatures. While his hands were bound, Gabimaru effortlessly lifted Warped Keiun, a man three times his size, into the air using the monk's spear as leverage. He was able to tear the limb Sōshin from limb and was able to send the gigantic Rokurōta crashing down with a single kick. Gabimaru was also able to match Zhu Jin's strength and finally overpowered them after tearing them apart faster than they could regenerate. Even against his former Iwa peers, whose bodies are known to be incredibly resilient, Gabimaru could bypass their defenses with little effort.

As a former Iwagakure shinobi, Gabimaru possesses an inhuman body that enables him to perform feats no ordinary human can, such as being able to dislocate his neck (as well as various other joints), temporarily stop his heart from beating, and harden his body. He possesses incredible durability. After being captured, Gabimaru was sentenced to death by numerous forms of execution, only to see them all fail as he managed to survive each attempt without suffering serious injury. He was also able to survive a deluge of Warped Keiun weapon attacks and received no injuries or showed any signs of concern. He is the only person known to have survived a direct attack from Rokurōta, which caused the death of Eizen and Genji in a single blow.

In addition to his durability, Gabimaru also possesses incredible stamina coupled with his indomitable will to survive. In the past, during a training match between a rival shinobi clan, Gabimaru easily and effortlessly killed the rival clan's representative while being seriously injured during a previous training session. Even after receiving devastating blows from the Sōshin and Rokurōta, Gabimaru was able to continue his journey without receiving medical attention and barely showed any signs of pain. Gabimaru's level of durability and endurance even impressed Zhu Jin to the point where the Tensen wondered if Gabimaru was even human after accomplishing the feat of recovering from their attacks that were deadly enough to kill a mortal. Even after the Tensen resorted to Tao attacks meant to cause internal damage, Gabimaru had enough stamina and willpower to defeat Zhu Jin with his strength while also facing the Tensen's attacks.

Gabimaru is also a powerful and skilled hand-to-hand combatant, using devastating punches and kicks that are complemented by his immense physical prowess. During periods when his hands were restrained, Gabimaru was completely unrestrained and able to kill effortlessly. He was able to match the immortal Zhu Jin's taste in one-on-one combat and even defend himself against the extremely combat-oriented Ran, all the while being complemented by his Tao abilities.

As a well-trained former shinobi from Iwa, Gabimaru is able to perform various levels of ninjutsu. Gabimaru's ninjutsu revolves mainly around the use of flames to cause severe burns to his targets. As well as creating flames, he also has a resistance to the said element, which first manifested itself at the time of his multiple execution sentences where he survived the fire and emerged with only minor burns to his body. He also survived the living porridge and even lasted long enough for the pot he was in to collapse from the immense heat.

Tao

Gabimaru possesses the Tao Fire attribute. The amount of Tao Gabimaru reserved was noted as significant by Mei at the time he awakened the sensation and his skills with it were compared to those of Lord Tensen members by a Dōshi. After further training, Gabimaru better grasped the nature of the Tao and was even chosen as a teacher to instruct the surviving members of the Vanguard Party.

With his use, Gabimaru is able to sense the presence of others, as well as the layout of his surroundings. With this ability combined with his shinobi skills, Gabimaru's infiltration skills have improved. By sensing the inorganic Tao of structures, Gabimaru is able to trace the layout of strongholds and detect the presence of anyone on guard or avoiding skirmishes. In battle, Gabimaru's sensory Tao can enable him to read the intentions behind his opponent's attacks, and can even handle combat against a large group as he was shown capable of defeating a team of genin Iwa. He was also able to keep up with the incredibly fast Shija. Gabimaru's sensory Tao can also enable him to sense the weak points of a person's Tao, and once found, can even put less effort into his attacks to inflict damage on his opponents. He also has enough control over his Tao to suppress it and prevent himself from being detected by others.

After combining Tao concepts from what he saw of others, Gabimaru developed the unique fighting method of redirecting his opponent's Tao towards them, which proved to be a very useful countermeasure against those with a stronger Tao than himself.

Tao Flower

After injecting himself with one of Mu Dan's Kishikai stingers, following a near-death experience at Ran's hands, Gabimaru overcame arborification and acquired Flower Tao's regenerative abilities, making him immortal. Without any conscious effort on his part, Gabimaru is able to repair his body, regardless of the severity of the damage inflicted, such as being skewered by a giant stone spike or burned by intense flames that bypass his resistance. However, despite this beneficial ability, Gabimaru is aware that his regeneration can only be weakened if he faces an opponent with the Water Tao attribute, and must avoid his tanden (or vegetal ovum) being struck, as well as resist the flowers within him devouring his body.

Intelligence

In addition to his physical abilities and ninjutsu, Gabimaru's greatest strength lies in his intelligence and powers of observation. His years of experience as a ninja have made him a genius at tactics and combat, even described by Yuzuriha as a "combat nerd". As a shinobi, Gabimaru follows shinobi principles that can help him determine what to do if he's caught in a difficult situation. Faced with the Sōshin, Gabimaru knew he had to avoid facing unknown enemies and determined that escaping was ideal. Before engaging in battle, Gabimaru takes the time to think through a well-thought-out plan. He is able to analyze an opponent's strengths and weaknesses and can determine which approach would be most effective, as well as making accurate predictions should he make the wrong choice. During his fight with Rokurōta, Gabimaru tested his strength using ninjutsu and came to the conclusion that a two-man team was needed to defeat the giant. After being defeated by Zhu Jin, Gabimaru quickly corrected himself and proposed a strategy to face them in the future. After forming an alliance with the survivors of the mission, Gabimaru acted as strategist and devised the plan for when the time came for them to infiltrate Hōrai, as well as countermeasures should the group encounter Lord Tensen.

He proves to be a quick learner by way of kinesthetic learning. After just awakening his Tao, Gabimaru was able to quickly understand the mechanisms behind it in a single battle and managed to defeat a Dōshi, disciples of Lord Tensen who are very adept at using it after undergoing lengthy training. During his one training session with Gantetsusai, Tōma, Shion and Nurugai, Gabimaru quickly came to understand Tao even better, such as the way Tao flows through the body like a current. Combining thinking about how Tao can be used physically from observing Nurugai, Yuzuriha, Shion and Sagiri, Gabimaru discovered the idea of using Lord Tensen's Tao against themselves using their Tao current without having to worry about the Tao elemental cycle. Such a feat even managed to impress Ran, who declared that even if the island leads a person to awaken their Tao, Gabimaru has shown remarkable "

Other skills

Spying

As a shinobi, Gabimaru is highly skilled in infiltration. With a group of elite Iwa shinobi, he was able to get in and out of the fortress built by the descendants of Hattori Hanzō, which is supposed to confuse shinobi spies with its labyrinthine layout complete with traps. This skill was also put to good use on Kotaku to infiltrate Hōrai . After learning to detect and suppress his Tao, Gabimaru's infiltration skills have improved as he is able to trace the layout of fortresses and conceal his presence.

Weapon mastery

Gabimaru is highly skilled with weapons. With a kunai, Gabimaru was able to slice through a man's entire body in an instant. With a sword in hand, Gabimaru showed great mastery of the sword, where he is able to fight on equal terms with a ranked Yamada Asaemon who are known to be true masters at wielding a sword.
