It's hard to believe that My Hero Academia is less than ten years old, given it's on its way to becoming one of the most popular anime and manga franchises of all time. The series, which follows a group of superpowered teenagers attending a hero academy, quickly became an instant hit, achieving stardom faster than almost any other title before or since.

One of the standout highlights of My Hero Academia is the character Shoto Todoroki, a student who delivers some of the series' best lines, almost always referencing his grudge against his father, his rivalries with others, or his quest to become a hero.
10. "It’s not your fault, we’re just playing on different levels."
Todoroki is generally detached and low-key, but he shows his true colors with this quote.
He isn't afraid to tell someone when he thinks he is better than them. It doesn't come across as mean, just brutally honest. After all, he is one of the most capable students at U.A. High School.
9. "Never forget who you want to become."
One of Todoroki's primary goals is to escape his troubled past, which explains why he says this phrase to himself, but it also works as a message of encouragement for his allies.
His motivational speech is truly inspiring because he knows exactly what he's talking about. He lives it every day.

8. "I know how much grudges like that can cloud a person's vision."
Noticing Tenya Iida's visible anger after his brother was attacked by the villain Stain, Todoroki advises him not to turn it into a grudge.
Recalling his own past, Todoroki notes that, in his view, such grudges are useless and only serve to "cloud judgment" rather than actually helping one fulfill their dreams or destiny.
7. "I will win using only my mother's power."
Todoroki eventually learns that the only way for him to fully reconcile with his past is to accept it. However, as a slight to his father, he initially decides to use only his "cold" side, which he inherited from his mother, even though using both his "cold" and "hot" sides would make him a much more powerful fighter.
He doesn't shy away from putting in extra effort to become what he wants to be, while avoiding becoming what his father wanted him to be.
6. "Isn't it a hero's job to save people?"
After Deku, Iida, and Todoroki take Stain down, Police Chief Kenji Tsuragamae reprimands them for using their Quirks without a license. Todoroki insists he did the right thing, asking: "Isn't it a hero's job to save people?"
Ultimately, Tsuragamae seems to agree, as he ends up thanking them privately for what they did, despite their breach of the law.
5. "If you're going to rely on words alone, they better be incredibly powerful."
Actions speak louder than words, and this is a point Todoroki quickly drives home with this quote.
Todoroki's statement revolves around the fact that in a fight, words are only useful if they can exert psychological influence on the opponent. In the end, he advocates for staying silent and focusing on the task at hand.

4. "Give it everything you've got, Midoriya. I'm going to beat you."
Several characters form rivalries with Deku at the start of My Hero Academia, but Todoroki is so emotionally invested in his that it would be impossible not to mention it.
The only reason Todoroki wants to beat Deku is because he wants to prove he is the superior fighter, as he sees himself that way. This sportsmanlike attitude makes both characters, despite their rivalry, worthy of support, as neither has ill intentions.
3. "Get a hold of yourself. You're an adult, aren't you?"
Among Todoroki's harshest lines is this incredible jab.
Todoroki is surprisingly mature for someone still in high school, to the point of looking down on someone older for having a lesser ability to control their emotions.
2. "Whether it’s good, bad, or something in between... That's something I’ll have to think about."
Todoroki considers his father, Endeavor, the number one pro hero, a scoundrel, plain and simple.
This leads to several awkward moments between the two, such as when Endeavor congratulates Todoroki on his performance at the Sports Festival (albeit somewhat insincerely), and Todoroki asserts that the only reason for his success is that during the fight, he completely forgot about Endeavor. Of course, as this quote suggests, even Todoroki himself isn't quite sure what to make of it all.

1. "I want... to be a hero, too...!"
During his fight against Deku, Todoroki notices that his rival is actually trying to encourage him to use his full potential. This confuses the audience, but only momentarily unsettles Todoroki.
In the following quote, he applauds Deku's ambition while committing to it himself, publicly declaring his desire to become a hero.
