"Exodia" is an arcane spellcasting monster archetype, with the first member released in Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon and the first support in Millennium Box Gold Edition. It focuses on alternate win conditions and has support related to summoning or strengthening Exodia Beatsticks. It is linked to the "Forbidden" archetype.

While many people refer to "Forbidden One" cards as "Exodia" cards, only "Exodia the Forbidden One" (the head) is part of this archetype.
The main card, "Exodia the Forbidden One," is one of the first five effect monsters ever released and the first card to have an alternate victory condition.
Notably, "Exodia the Forbidden One" and the other "Forbidden One" cards were the only monsters ever specifically mentioned in the rules (other than as examples), as "Exodia the Forbidden One" was the only card with an alternate win state at the time. "Exodia the Forbidden One" is no longer mentioned in the rulebook, as its card text is sufficient to clarify its effect.
"Exodia the Forbidden One" is one of the most iconic cards in the franchise, well known for its automatic win condition and its use by Yugi in the first episode of the anime.
Exodia cards
While the main purpose of "Exodia" is to declare an automatic victory by having all five pieces of the "Forbidden One", there are other ways to use it.
The first of these was "Exodia Necross", which had to be Special Summoned via "Contract with Exodia" and has the near invulnerability of the anime version of "Exodia" as long as the "Forbidden One" pieces remain in the Graveyard. It gains 500 ATK during each of the player's Standby Phases and cannot be destroyed in combat or by Magic and Trap effects. It is automatically destroyed if one of the five "Forbidden One" pieces does not exist in the graveyard. Due to his near invincibility and increasing strength, he serves either as an asset that cannot be defeated or as a backup plan if too many "Forbidden One" pieces are in the graveyard.
The next incarnation of this type is "Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord," which provides an alternative method of winning with "Exodia." It is also the only card that supports the "Forbidden One" archetype.
In addition, there is "Exxod, Master of The Guard" which is very similar to "Exodia", but without an automatic win effect or any relationships or effects involving the Exodia archetype. In the same vein as "Necross" being the zombie counterpart to "Exodia", "Exxod" looks like a finished "Exodia", though still sealed.
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum , the player can fuse the five pieces of "Exodia" to summon "The Legendary Exodia Incarnate", the complete Exodia (but it will only be like a normal fusion piece), with an ability to cause massive damage on monsters that is in range, which is known by "Obliterate". "The Legendary Exodia Incarnate" can also be unlocked in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelists of the Roses in the library when you successfully summon Exodia, but it will be impossible to see it in 3D, and the only status available will be its Type, which is Spellcaster, and its Attribute, which is Dark.
Standard Exodia Assistance Cards
These are just the standard cards you want in most "Exodia" decks. Cards like Soul Taker and Snatch Steal (traditional) can be useful because Exodia decks don't focus on reducing your opponent's life points to 0. Lavalval Chain is a good option to use in your Extra Deck. Gemini Imps can also be used to protect your hand from rejection effects. In addition, "Legion the Fiend Jester" can add 1 "Forbidden One" card (except "Exodia the Forbidden One") to your hand when sent from the Field to the Graveyard.
Exodia Decks in advanced format
Exodia OTK Mega Draft
This deck focuses on using mass draw power to get through your Deck as quickly as possible in one turn. By using "Royal Magical Library" for a big push in this Deck, you can run through the deck at rocket speed and eventually draw the entire deck in one turn, leaving your opponent with very little reaction time. Using the LV8 "Destiny HERO" cards, you can combine "Trade-In" and "Destiny Draw" to get the most out of the game. As "Destiny Draw" is now finally unlimited, "Broken Bamboo Sword" and "Golden Bamboo Sword" can provide an excellent replacement combo, Destiny Draw. Another combo, which can draw up to 12 cards, uses Good Goblin Housekeeping and Emergency Provisions . (More details in the "Tips" section of Good Goblin Housekeeping .) There is also another type of Deck "Exodia", which also focuses on Mega Draw but also thins the Deck.
Deep Draw Dragon Exodia
You can also combine this Deck with "Destiny HERO" monsters to abuse the effect of "Allure of Darkness" and "Destiny Draw". In addition, you can use Level 8 "Destiny HERO" monsters such as "Destiny HERO - Dreadmaster", "Destiny HERO - Plasma" and "Destiny HERO - Dogma" to use "Trade-In" with them. A good strategy is to use "Destiny HERO - Diamond Dude" with "A Feather of the Phoenix" to activate a card effect from the Graveyard at no cost. So you've drawn a lot of cards, without needing to thin the Deck with cards like "" and you have a solid Deep Draw "Exodia" Deck.
Heart of the Exodia Underdog
" Heart of the Underdog" is used to draw as much as possible from the Deck during the Draw Phase following activation. It can activate when another card ends up with your Deck during your Draw Phase, in addition to your normal Deck. This card can also allow you to draw again if it allows you to draw and it is also a Normal Monster. Limit non-normal monsters so this loop doesn't end soon. You can use Hand Destruction, Monster Recovery, and Reload (because they are Quick Spells) during the Draw Phase to draw and possibly restart the loop.
For normal monsters, try to use monsters with a high ATK or DEF with the same level. This allows you to use them for Xyz summons of Xyz monsters of that rank and allows you to stall while trying to draw "Heart of the Underdog". With "Rescue Rabbit", you can easily remove two normal monsters from your Deck and Xyz summon monsters like "Evilswarm Ophion" and "Evolzar Laggia". It's also possible to use Normal Tuner monsters for Synchronized Summoning, allowing for a wide range of different attacks with such a restrictive deck build.
Focus on one level for Xyz Summoning and a tuner monster of another level for Synchro Summoning. Staple Synchro and Xyz Monsters work well.
Appropriate Exodia
The goal of this deck is to force your opponent to draw while you use the "Appropriate" effect to draw more cards than your opponent. "Hiro's Shadow Scout" and "Cup of Ace" are great cards to use because they make your opponent draw cards while you chain your "Appropriate" to their draw, and also have other effects that help you. Cards that force your opponent to draw like "The Bistro Butcher" are quite useful for this strategy, although this Deck is not normally offensive. "Dark Bribe" is one of the basic cards in this deck. Use it to protect your assets. Also note that "Mind Wipe," and "Heavy Slump" could also be used to reset your opponent's hand (in case they have something to stop you), then use "Appropriate" to draw more cards. Also, an important thing to keep in mind is not to use cards like "Book of Eclipse" too often, unless your opponent has a small amount of monsters, or you have several "Appropriate" on the field. Also remember that at the end of your turn, you discard cards because of your large hand, but your opponent does not. That's why cards like Dark World Dealings and Magical Stone Excavation are especially useful.
X-Sabre Exodia OTK
- The 5 pieces of Exodia
- The Rainbow Life
- X-Saber Axel or Card of Safe Return (traditional only)
- X-Saber Palomuro
- XX-Saber Emmersblade
You will need 1 "X-Saber Palomuro" in your Cemetery and 1 on your field. You will also need "X-Saber Axel" on your field and "Rainbow Life" face down. You must first activate "Rainbow Life". Now you attack with "X-Saber Palomuro" against a monster that has 500 ATK or more than "Palomuro". With "Rainbow Life", you will gain the life points you should have lost and with "X-Saber Axel", you will draw a card, then you can pay 500 life points to summon the other "X-Saber Palomuro" from your Graveyard and continue to attack until you get out your Deck. This works with "Spirit Barrier", but only if you have a lot of health to spare. "XX-Saber Emmersblade" is a good choice to add because it thins the Deck and looks for "X-Saber Palomuro" and "X-Saber Axel".
In traditional format, you can use "Safe Return Card" instead of "X-Saber Axel".
Bistro Boucher Exodia
- The 5 rooms of Exodia
- The Butcher's Bistro
- Creature exchange
- Summoner nova
- Shining Angel
- UFO
- UFO Turtle
- Masked Dragon
- Troop Dragon
Additional cards may include - A Day of Peace
- Pot of Greed
- Magic Mallet
Use "Creature Swap" on your "The Bistro Butcher" to put it on your opponent's side of the field in attack position. Have a "Nova Summoner" on your side of the field in attack position. Now, simply attack "The Bistro Butcher" and Special Summon another "Nova Summoner" once the other is destroyed. Once you have no more Nova Summoners, Special Summon "Shining Angel". Continue and do it according to this pattern: "Nova Summoner" > "Shining Angel" > "UFOroid" > "UFO Turtle" > "Masked Dragon" > "Troop Dragon". Each time your monster is destroyed, you draw 2 cards because of "The Bistro Butcher". If you only have 40 cards in your deck to start with, there should be a little over 30. cards left if you can get the combo set up as soon as possible. In theory, you should only have to attack the butcher with 10 monsters at most.

World of Darkness Exodia FTK
This is very similar to "Exodia" OTK Mega Draw, in that it mainly uses Spell cards that discard "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World" and "Snoww, Unlight of Dark World" to search for "Dark World Dealings" and has massive consistency while you draw cards. Although "Dragged Down into the Grave" has good cycling, it could result in the loss of an "Exodia" coin. Use "Dark Eruption" or "Dark Factory of Mass Production" to recover these coins, catch up with "Card Advantage" or use "Dark Eruption" to bring lost "Dark World" monsters back into the hand, a particularly difficult card to eliminate. Using "Dragged Down into the Grave" instead of "Dealings" will ensure that you don't send a "Neko Mane King" to the graveyard, but will hinder you because the opponent knows not to discard Dark World monsters.
For the second build, you can "Trade-In" "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" for 2 cards, although you won't gain its destruction ability. Then you can search for "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" via "Snoww, Unlight of Dark World's" effect. Thanks to the low level and (almost) free special summons of "Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World", you can discard "Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World" and put it back into your hand with the effect "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World's" . Then you sacrifice your "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" via "Advance Draw" to get a +1 hand size (essentially a "Pot of Greed"). Once you have completed and run through your "Allure of Darkness". If you don't have enough good cards, then simply add three "Reckless Greed" and win during your opponent's Standby Phase. This build has an 84.894% chance of winning in the first round, provided you make the right moves.
Inmato Exodia Deck
- The 5 pieces of Exodia
- Inside ×3
- 2 or more cherry tomatoes
- Shien's Spy / Creature Swap
- Mystic Tomato
- Insect Chopper
- Poison Lord
- Rainbow Life / Spirit Barrier
- Seven Bandit Tools / Trap Jammer
- Card of Safe Return (to draw additional cards for each "Lord Poison"
- destroyed) (Traditional Format only)
- The Beginning of the End (optional support)
- Armageddon Knight (optional support)
- Mother Grizzly (optional support)
This strategy is based on the "Inmato" engine combined with "Mystic Tomato" and "Lord Poison". First, use "Shien's Spy" to give your opponent "Chainsaw Insect" and use "Spirit Barrier" to avoid taking damage. Use "Mystic Tomato's" effect to Special Summon from the Deck whenever you destroy it with "Chainsaw Insect", drawing 1 card; as an extension, you can use "Lord Poison" to bring back "Mystic Tomato" from your graveyard. If you have Special Summoned enough "Tomatoes", Special Summon "Cherry Inmatoes" - its effect helps you Special Summon 2 (or 3, if you have Special Summoned 2 "Cherry Inmatoes") "Inmatoes" to your side of the field. Finish by having your "Inmatoes" destroyed in battle. Overall, you will be able to draw at least 9 cards. If you have used "Rainbow Life", you can use "Supremacy Berry" to draw more cards. You can also use "The Beginning of the End" to draw three cards. You can also use "Mother Grizzly" to get three more draws and the Special Summon "Lord Poison" which will then be the Special Summon "Mystic Tomato".
You may use "The Bistro Butcher" instead of "Chainsaw Insect". You should not use Rainbow Life or Spirit Barrier if you do this. This strategy will be slightly riskier because you will lose Life Points but instead of drawing at least 9 cards you will draw at least 18 cards.
Suggested cards:
- The Bistro Boucher
- Destruction by hand
- Relations with the world of darkness
Finally, you can use "Sasuke Samurai 3" instead of "Chainsaw Insect" or "The Bistro Butcher". This strategy requires you to use cards such as "Hand Destruction" in order to lose advantage in the draw and an Equip Spell Card (preferably "Fusion Sword Murasame Blade").
Suggested cards:
- Sasuke Samurai 3
- Hidden Armory
- An equipment spell card that gives at least 600 attack.
- Manual Destruction (to be used during the battle phase)
- Reload (to be used during the battle phase)
- Relationship with the world of darkness
- Reinforcement of the army
DARK Heart Exodia Deck
- The 5 pieces of Exodia
- Darkness Normal Monsters
- Veil of Darkness
- Pace of Darkness
- Pot of Greed (max one)
- The beginning of the end
- Heart of the Outsider
- Reload
- Hand Destruction
- Monster recovery (max one)
Use "Veil of Darkness" and "Heart of the Underdog" to go through your deck until you draw all of "Exodia". This can be fairly quick if you get at least two of the cards on your first turn. Use "Hand Destruction", "Reload" and "Monster Recovery" to gain more draws/sends during your draw phase. Use "Pot of Avarice" to return your "Exodia" coins when you use "Veil of Darkness" in case you haven't drawn "Heart of the Underdog" yet.
Emperor Swap Exodia Deck
- The 5 pieces of Exodia
- Frog Exchange ×3
- By Order of the Emperor ×3
- Ultimate Offering x1
- Solemn Wishes
- Gravity Binding
- Magic Planter ×3
- Goblin reached ×3
- 2 or more masks of darkness
- Dark Flare
- Legacy of Yata-Garasu ×3
- Magic Mallet
- A cat of ill omen
- Mysterious puppeteer
- Honest
This strategy works by stalling your opponent with cards like "Gravity Bind" until you have "By Order of the Emperor" and "Ultimate Offer," as well as "Swap Frog" or "Honest" and "Mysterious Puppeteer."
When you're ready to start the loop, Normally Summon "Swap Frog," activating its effect to send a monster to the Graveyard; cancel that effect with "By Order of the Emperor," drawing 1 card. If you control "Mysterious Puppeteer," you can cancel its effect instead; also, you can Summon "Honest" instead of "Swap Frog. After that, return "Swap Frog" or "Honest" to your hand with its own effect. Use "Ultimate Offer" to repeatedly summon "Swap Frog" or "Honest", repeating the previous steps. This can be done until you run out of Life Points, unless you gain Life Points with "Solemn Wishes" or "Mysterious Puppeteer".
Once you can no longer pay for "Ultimate Offer", use the card draw effects ("Upstart Goblin", "Magic Planter", etc.) and "Magical Maillets" to draw the remaining Exodia coins.
"Dark Eruption" works with "Mask of Darkness" (allowing you to recover any combo pieces your opponent may have destroyed or, at least, "Legacy of Yata-Garasu"), "A Cat of Ill Omen" (a slow but effective way to collect all the combo pieces) and the 5 pieces from "Exodia" (in case your opponent uses a discard effect).
Watt /Exodia OTK
This OTK uses the effect of "Watthydra" equipped with "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce" to inflict 1000 Damage to the opponent and add 2 "Exodia" pieces from your Deck to your hand in 2 turns. Using this effect each turn will allow the player to add 2 "Exodia" pieces the next turn after its first use. Spell Cards such as "Gold Sarcophagus" and "Pot of Duality" are used to maximize the effectiveness of the OTK. "Messenger of Peace" will also protect "Watthydra" from being destroyed by battle.
Cards in this Deck include:
- The 5 pieces of Exodia
- Level 4 Watt monsters (e.g. "Wattgiraffe", "Wattpheasant" etc.)
- "Wattkiwi" or "Wattberyx" (this is a level 3 Watt Tuner monster)
- "Watthydra
- "Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce
- "Messenger of Peace
- "Pot of Duality
- "Golden Sarcophagus"
Of course, Trap Cards like "Mirror Force" and "Dimensional Prison" that slow down the OTK must be anticipated with cards like "Royal Arrest", "Trap Stun" and "Seven Bandit Tools".

Neo Spacian Exodia OTK
The idea of this deck is to use the Neo-Spacian draw engine to draw cards and thin your deck quickly to get the "Exodia" parts.
The draw on this deck is not as fast as with other "Exodia" decks, but since there is a lot of specific thinning (while still keeping the hand advantage), getting the right cards can be easily done once most of the thinning is done. This makes the deck quite different from most "Exodia" decks, as it depends on having certain cards in hand to combine to work, meaning that too many "Exodia" pieces too early would handicap you. "One Day of Peace" and "Battle Fader" (or "Gorz the Dark Emissary") are a key card to give you a few turns to hold on.
This deck is easy to combine with the "Appropriate" deck "Exodia", as the Neo-Spacian Glow Moss effect is great for stalling and (with "Appropriate" out) drawing cards. Another possibility would be to use "NEX" to bring out "Neo-Spacian Twinkle Moss", giving you an extra draw per turn.
