Choso is a Fetus of the Nine Phases, hybrids born from the union of a human and curses by the hand of Noritoshi Kamo. He is the older brother of Eso and Kechizu.

Initially incarnated and allied with Mahito and his group of curses, Choso learns during the Shibuya Incident that the one controlling Suguru Geto's body was once possessed by Noritoshi Kamo, his father. Upon discovering that Yuji Itadori is another child of this entity and thus they are blood relatives, Choso now sides with his new little brother.
Appearance
In his incarnated body, Choso appears as a tall man with a well-built physique. He has long black hair tied into two buns, with bangs that fall messily over his face. He seems to have dark circles around his black eyes. His eyebrows are thin, and there is a prominent black horizontal line covering the bridge of his nose, which sometimes bleeds.
Choso wears a long-sleeved white garment, accompanied by what appears to be a purple sweater and baggy white pants. He also wears a purple scarf and a purple belt around his waist, along with brown boots.
Personality
Choso mostly appears reserved, stoic, and rather gloomy. In battle, he tends not to worry about others and prefers to patiently wait for orders, even if the situation disorients him or is exhausting.
However, this side of his personality does not apply to his brothers, to whom he shows great affection. His life is entirely governed by his family ties, to the point where the sole reason for Choso’s existence is his younger brothers. He even declares that he lives exclusively for them and is willing to do anything to make them happy. Due to his overly sentimental nature toward them, Kokichi Muta considers the trio of brothers easily manipulated.
After the death of his younger brothers, a strong thirst for vengeance grows within him, and he harbors a desire to kill those responsible for what happened.
Backstory
Past
Choso is one of the Nine Phases Fetuses, born from a woman capable of conceiving with curses. As he himself declares, Noritoshi Kamo (possessed by Kenjaku), the man who conducted experiments on his mother, is actually his third "parent" because he mixed his own blood with that of the fetuses. Although Choso seems to not remember much of his own past, he is able to recall Noritoshi and harbors resentment toward him for playing with the lives of his mother and brothers.
Choso and his brothers were later kept as relics.
Arc: Collective Instinct
In 2018, Choso and his brothers were incarnated by Mahito into human bodies, and they decided to side with the curses because the world they envision would suit them better.
Shibuya Incident Arc
On October 31st in Shibuya, Choso is with Jogo and Hanami within the curtain surrounding the district. When Satoru Gojo arrives at their location, Choso prepares to fight him with the others. Hanami starts blocking all exits, but Satoru tells them it's unnecessary since he has no intention of fleeing. The curses then surround Satoru with civilians. Choso attacks, but Satoru manages to counter. Choso watches as Hanami and Jogo fight Satoru. When Satoru rips off Hanami's branches, Choso manages to distract him, allowing Jogo and Hanami to launch an attack on the exorcist. However, Satoru exorcises Hanami by slamming him into a wall. Choso tries to help Jogo by attacking Satoru but to no avail. Later, a train filled with altered humans arrives and starts attacking people. Mahito emerges from the train, and the curse trio combines their attacks on Satoru. Satoru then activates his Domain Expansion for 0.2 seconds, freezing everyone in the subway before he begins to kill all the altered humans, around a thousand.
After recovering from the effects of the domain, Choso heads towards Mahito and Suguru, watching as the Border of Torture sinks into the ground. Suguru then informs Jogo that they will need to wait until the relic has completely mastered Satoru. However, they soon learn that other exorcists are coming to their location and decide to take action. While Jogo tries to awaken Sukuna, Choso and Mahito aim to kill Yuji, the former to avenge his brothers and the latter out of desire. Choso then sets off to find him. Once all the humans at their location have been eliminated, Choso continues his pursuit but is blocked by a duplicate of Mahito.
Later, Choso encounters Yuji inside the station and attacks him. When Yuji approaches to land a punch, Choso defends but notices that Yuji can no longer move his right arm. Choso then asks if his brothers left him any final words. Yuji replies that they simply cried, and Choso becomes enraged. The half-cursed then attacks again, and as Yuji charges toward him, Choso injures him with Supernova and stabs him in the foot. Yuji ignores the pain and continues attacking. However, Choso activates Red Scales Rush and overwhelms Yuji with techniques.
Choso continues to attack from a distance until Yuji rushes into the station's restroom. Choso hesitates to follow but is ultimately urged by Kokichi Muta, who mocks him. Once inside, Choso discovers that the restroom is flooded with water and destroys the device Kokichi was using to communicate with Yuji. Choso realizes that he cannot manipulate his blood with all the water around and engages Yuji in close combat. As Yuji gains the upper hand, Choso manages to land a blow with blood that he keeps out of the water. Yuji holds his ground and lands a few good hits, but Choso manages to send him crashing into a wall. Just as Choso is about to finish Yuji off, a memory of himself, his brothers, and Yuji having a peaceful meal together appears in his mind. Choso is confused by this and leaves the restroom in fear.
Due to this false memory involving his brothers and Yuji, Choso is now convinced that Yuji is also one of his brothers and sets out to find him. Choso arrives on the battlefield where Suguru and the exorcists are engaged and confronts the curse master about being one of his parents, Noritoshi Kamo, which the latter confirms. He asks him why he made him try to kill his "little brother Yuji" and rushes toward him. However, Choso is stopped by Uraume, who Choso orders to move aside. Choso then engages in a fight with Noritoshi and Uraume. However, Choso and the other exorcists present are frozen by Uraume's spell.
Uraume then approaches Choso to finish him off, but he is saved by Yuji. The battle continues, and Uraume manages to dominate Choso and the exorcists. However, she is stopped by the arrival of Yuki Tsukumo, who engages in a discussion with Noritoshi. Ultimately, Noritoshi and Uraume flee Shibuya with the Border of Torture containing Satoru.
Yuji's Execution Arc
After the events of the Shibuya Incident, Choso decides to help Yuji track down the curses released by Noritoshi. At one point, Choso talks with Yuji in a staircase. Yuji explains that he doesn't want to return to the Jujutsu High School because he killed too many innocents when Sukuna took control of his body, as well as his two brothers. Choso reassures him, saying that it was an accident since they are all brothers, and after this, the two continue to hunt curses.
During one of their hunts, Choso asks Yuji if his father had a scar on his forehead. However, they are interrupted by Naoya Zenin, who is searching for Megumi Fushiguro. At the same time, Naoya informs Yuji that his death sentence has been reinstated following Satoru's disappearance. However, Yuji asks Naoya why he's looking for Megumi, and Naoya replies that he wants to kill him. After this response, Naoya appears behind Choso and Yuji, and a brief confrontation ensues between the three fighters. However, all three sense a sinister presence, and an individual appears.
Yuta Okkotsu's Appearance and Choso's Struggle
As the three combatants—Choso, Yuji, and Naoya—are locked in a tense standoff, an individual approaches them, revealing himself to be Yuta Okkotsu. Choso urges Yuji to flee while he holds them off. However, Naoya intervenes, allowing Yuta to catch up to Yuji. The battle takes place in an underground passage, where Naoya seemingly dominates Choso. The half-cursed Choso uses his enhanced technique, Red Scales Rush, to match Naoya's speed, but Naoya manages to counter by stabbing him. After this sneaky attack, Naoya critiques his own brothers, which leads Choso to discuss the value of sibling bonds.
Seizing the opportunity that his half-cursed nature provides, Choso uses his blood to attack Naoya. Although Naoya tries to dodge, some blood lands on his clothes, and Choso strikes him with Supernova, successfully poisoning him with his blood in the process. Before Choso can finish off his opponent, Yuta arrives and knocks the half-cursed out, ending the confrontation.
Preparation for the Hunt
While Yuji, Yuta, and Megumi discuss how to reach Tengen's hideout to meet him, Choso intervenes, telling them they can count on him. Upon arriving at Jujutsu High, Yuji, Megumi, Yuta, and Choso meet with Yuki Tsukumo and Maki Zenin. Choso explains that thanks to his connection with the Nine Phase Fetuses, he can pinpoint the exact location of Tengen's domain. Maki is curious about his identity, to which Yuji responds that Choso is like an older brother to him. They then head to the underground area of the Jujutsu High School. Before the cursed reserve, Choso senses the presence of his brothers and mentions that he will come back for them. Upon reaching the Pavilion of Dead Stars, they find nothing and prepare to leave, but at that moment, Tengen arrives and holds them back.
Yuki asks Tengen why he sealed the Pavilion of Dead Stars, to which Tengen responds that he was afraid they might sympathize with Kenjaku. Confused, Yuki asks who Kenjaku is, and Tengen explains that he is the exorcist inhabiting Suguru's body and previously Noritoshi's. When Tengen reveals that Kenjaku's goal is to forcibly fuse with humanity, Choso asks how that could happen since Kenjaku is alone. Tengen clarifies that Kenjaku is now a transcendent being living in multiple places, "the sky and the earth." He further explains that he needs two bodyguards because he fears being absorbed by Kenjaku, as his current physical form is close to that of a curse. Choso and Yuki then volunteer to be his bodyguards.
Tengen then explains how to unseal Satoru. He gives them the "Inverse" of the Border of Torture and tells them that to force its opening, they will either need the Celestial Spear or one of the Black Strings. However, Tengen adds that the Celestial Spear has either been sealed or destroyed by Satoru, and the Black Strings would also have been destroyed by him. Yuta mentions that he went in search of more Black Strings with Miguel but found nothing. Tengen then reveals they have another asset, Hana Kurusu, a thousand-year-old exorcist and participant in the Death Hunt who can annihilate curses.
The group then reviews the rules of the Death Hunt and formulates an effective plan. Afterward, Yuji, Megumi, Yuta, and Maki depart, and Yuji thanks Choso for everything he's done for him.
Abilities & Skills
Choso is considered a cursed relic of Class S. Not only does he possess massive amounts of cursed energy, but he also wields one of the most powerful and balanced techniques in existence. He has such a deep affinity with his technique that he can create new techniques and refine the ones he already possesses. Although Choso is an inexperienced fighter, he has fought and defeated powerful and seasoned opponents like Yuji and Naoya, solidifying his position as a formidable curse.
Physical Abilities
Choso has immense physical strength, further amplified by his technique, Red Scales Rush. He seriously injured Yuji during their fight, striking him hard enough to break walls multiple times. With his blood-hardened fists, Choso was also able to injure Yuji's shoulder and even immobilize him.
Choso's Speed, Endurance, and Combat Abilities
In addition to his immense strength, Choso possesses remarkable speed that allows him to surprise even Naoya when he was overwhelmed by a wave of blood. He can perform lightning-fast attacks, matching Yuji's barrage of punches and responding blow for blow. Choso's reflexes are incredibly sharp—he was able to dodge some of Yuji's attacks during their fight and sometimes counter so quickly that Yuji couldn't react in time. His reflexes are so impressive that he could respond to Naoya's increased speed, adapting with his Red Scales Rush technique, even when caught off guard.
Another key trait of Choso is his remarkable endurance. He is capable of withstanding continuous attacks and still keep fighting. Naoya even commented on how Choso could take multiple hits without flinching, something he found strange. Choso responded by explaining that he has trained his body relentlessly throughout his existence to reach this level. Not only does he have a robust body, but his endurance allows him to endure powerful blows from opponents like Yuji throughout their battle, ultimately coming out victorious.
Close-Combat Proficiency
Choso excels in hand-to-hand combat, demonstrating his ability to handle fighters like Yuji and Naoya in this domain. Combined with his cursed techniques, his close combat skills are formidable, making him a dangerous opponent in any physical altercation.
Physiology and Blood Properties
Choso's blood possesses unique properties. Like his two younger brothers, his blood is toxic, capable of affecting even a powerful millennium-old exorcist like Uraume. Furthermore, as one of the Nine Phase Fetuses, Choso has a special physiology that allows him to convert his cursed energy into blood. As long as he doesn't run out of cursed energy, Choso can produce as much blood as he desires and is immune to death by blood loss. This regenerative ability makes him a particularly dangerous and resilient foe in battle.
Choso's Cursed Technique: Hematite Manipulation
Choso's innate technique, Hematite Manipulation, is a set of combat techniques that charges his blood with cursed energy, allowing him to manipulate it for various purposes. This ability is a hereditary power from the Kamo clan, which Choso inherited through the blood of Noritoshi Kamo.
An important aspect of Choso's power is his ability to sense if his blood-related brothers are suffering, even from a distance. He can feel their deaths, which are the ultimate form of suffering for any living being. This is how Choso realized that he and Yuji were connected by blood—by feeling Yuji’s death intensely at the end of their battle.
Techniques
Scythe: A powerful offensive technique that allows Choso to slice his enemies with his own blood.
Contraction: Choso compresses his blood to its maximum, creating immense pressure. Once compressed, the blood can be released in a single powerful burst.
Supernova: Choso releases the blood compressed by Contraction in all directions, like a shotgun blast, dealing massive damage.
Piercing Blood: The blood shot out by Contraction, enhanced with cursed energy, breaks the sound barrier and pierces through its target.
Red Scales Rush: Choso manipulates the blood within his body to enhance his strength and speed. When activated, a bloodstain appears on his face, marking the activation of the technique.
Red Scales Rush (Enhanced): The maximum version of Red Scales Rush, where Choso’s abilities are significantly amplified. The bloodstain on his face changes shape, indicating the full power of the technique.
Blood Blade: Choso forms and accelerates the blood inside his body to create a deadly blood blade.
Blood Asteroid: Choso coagulates his blood, strengthening it with cursed energy to form a blood sphere, which he can then launch at his enemies.
Winged Sovereign: Choso forms a pair of wings from his blood. Using these wings, he can control his blood projectiles to ensure they always hit their target.

Anecdotes
The name Choso literally means "swelling phase," and like his brothers, this name is derived from the Kusōzu, a Buddhist series of nine paintings that represent the stages of death and decomposition of a corpse, which was very popular in Japan from the 14th to the 18th century. The Chōsō (脹ちょう相そう?) is the first stage of this series and represents the swelling of the corpse.

The blood of Choso's younger brothers, Eso and Kechizu, has the same toxicity as his own. However, since Yuji is the vessel of Sukuna and is resistant to poisons, he can come out unscathed when exposed to their blood. Aside from Yuji, being touched by Choso's blood during the Perforating Blood attack would be extremely painful.
Gege Akutami revealed that he created Choso and his brothers because he loves sibling relationships. He then decided to incorporate one into his story.
