Chaozu is a small man with pale skin and red cheeks. He is the best friend of Ten Shin Han, and his trainer was Tsuru Sennin. He is inspired by the undead from Chinese folklore.

Characteristics and Personality
Chaozu is a character who eternally retains a youthful appearance, which aligns with his childish and naïve behavior. He is highly impressionable and extremely sensitive, remaining constantly close to his friend Ten Shin Han, who, like him, was a student of Tsuru Sennin.
Chaozu is a man with some features that set him apart from most other characters in the series, such as his pale skin and red cheeks. Like Kuririn, Chaozu does not have a visible nose, and he is very small, but unlike Kuririn, he has a single hair on the top of his head. Chaozu was a student of Master Tsuru Sennin along with Ten Shin Han, and he specializes in abilities involving telepathy and telekinesis. He is first introduced near the end of the Baba the Fortune Teller saga in the anime. He forms a rivalry with Muten Rôshi's students, particularly Kuririn, during the 22nd Tenkai Ichi Budokai. Alongside Ten Shin Han, he quickly switches to the good side after witnessing the madness of his master's teachings, becoming a trusted ally of Son Gokû. He is a calm but courageous psychic specialist, always ready to assist his friends whenever possible. He follows Ten Shin Han at every step of his journey.
Biography
22nd Tenka Ichi Budōkai Saga
Chaozu is introduced into the series during the 22nd Tenka Ichi Budokai, where he is a student of Master Tsuru Sennin, the eternal rival of Muten Rôshi.
At Ten Shin Han’s request, Chaozu uses his mental powers to determine the order of the quarterfinal matches. Chaozu decides to fight Kuririn, who represents Muten Rôshi’s Turtle School along with Gokû. Chaozu and Kuririn battle, with Kuririn slowly gaining the upper hand. Noticing this, Chaozu uses the Buku Jutsu to turn the tide, launching a series of Dodompa attacks.
After Ten Shin Han informs Tsuru Sennin that his brother Tao Pai Pai was killed by Son Gokû, Tsuru Sennin orders Chaozu to kill Kuririn with a single powerful Dodompa. When Chaozu fires the Dodompa, Kuririn manages to dodge and counterattacks in mid-air with a fierce Kamehameha. However, Chaozu recovers from the attack and returns to the ring.
Chaozu unleashes his telekinetic powers to attack Kuririn’s internal organs, causing him excruciating pain in his stomach. Tsuru Sennin instructs Chaozu to kill Kuririn slowly. Chaozu begins delivering a series of kicks. Kuririn realizes that Chaozu must use his hands to utilize this power and tricks him by asking a math question. Chaozu falls into the trap twice and is disqualified.
During Ten Shin Han’s match with Son Gokû, Chaozu uses his powers at Tsuru Sennin’s request. His psychic abilities continually paralyze Gokû during the match. Eventually, Ten Shin Han realizes this cheating tactic and orders Chaozu to stop, as he wants a fair fight. Enraged, Tsuru Sennin tries to take matters into his own hands, but it is Muten Rôshi who prevents him from interfering by launching a Kamehameha.
At the end of the match, Ten Shin Han is declared the winner. Muten Rôshi offers to take in both him and Chaozu, but Ten Shin Han declines the offer, explaining that they cannot follow the teachings of another, even though they have betrayed their master.
Piccolo Daimaō Saga
Chaozu joins the fight led by Muten Rôshi alongside his friend Ten Shin Han. They search for the Dragon Balls, suspecting that, by the end of their journey, they will confront Piccolo Daimaō. Muten Rôshi comes up with a plan to steal the Dragon Balls from the Demon King, but the tactic is quickly foiled when Piccolo swallows the Dragon Balls he possesses.
Muten Rôshi invokes the Mafuba in exchange for his life. Ten Shin Han, stunned by the old master’s gas, is unable to intervene. It is ultimately Chaozu who heroically steps in to prevent Piccolo Daimaō's wish from coming true, but he is quickly killed by a kikoha. His death weighs heavily on Ten Shin Han’s conscience.
He is later resurrected by Shenron, brought back to life by God himself.
23rd Tenka Ichi Budōkai Saga
Chaozu trains hard alongside Ten Shin Han for the upcoming Tenka Ichi Budokai. Once again, he uses his power to decide the matches for his friends. Unfortunately, Chaozu did not foresee that Tao Pai Pai would participate, and he falls victim to Tao’s new abilities.
Saiyan Saga
After the death of Raditz, as everyone learns that two more powerful Saiyans will come to conquer Earth a year later, Chaozu also begins training to withstand this new threat. He follows the training of God, which allows him to triple his combat potential (increasing from about 300 to around 1000 units). He trains alongside Ten Shin Han, Kuririn, Yamcha, and Yajirobé.
A year later, when Nappa and Vegeta arrive on Earth, Chaozu intervenes against Nappa by clinging to his back and self-destructing. Unfortunately for him, this sacrifice proves useless as it leaves Nappa unharmed.
Namek Saga
Chaozu now trains with Kaio, hoping to catch up to Son Gokû's rapid progress.
Frieza Saga
When Son Gokû faces Frieza, Chaozu encourages his friend from the afterlife. After the battle, he is resurrected by Porunga, along with Ten Shin Han.
Android Saga
In the manga, Chaozu does not appear in this arc. In the anime, he stays with Muten Rôshi, waiting for the outcome, and showcases his cooking skills.
Cell Saga
Chaozu worries about Ten Shin Han’s well-being when he uses the Shin Kikohô. Later, he does not appear during the Cell Games.
Majin Buu Saga
Chaozu witnesses Son Gokû’s transformation into Super Saiyan 3. His training also allows him to dodge Majin Buu's deadly projectiles. When Ten Shin Han intervenes, Chaozu does not appear with him, likely staying in a safe place. It seems that when Earth explodes, Chaozu is the only human left alive, and he perishes with the planet.
Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga
Chaozu is part of the Earth warriors when the Galactic Patrol Prisoners arrive on Earth and fights, alongside Ten Shin Han, Bikkura Koita, a Metalman. Remembering their weakness thanks to Otta Magetta, Chaozu insults him, which helps him win the fight.
Films
Film 03: Dragon Ball - The Mystical Adventure
In this story, Chaozu is an emperor who rules the Mifan Empire. However, being young and naive, he is easily deceived by Tsuru Sennin and Tao Pai Pai, who take advantage of the situation. Ten Shin Han, although part of the plot, hesitates due to his sincere friendship with the young emperor.
Emperor Chaozu loses his doll, and Tsuru Sennin is tasked with retrieving the Dragon Balls. In reality, Tsuru Sennin has stolen the doll and seeks to rule the world using the Dragon Balls. During the tournament, Tsuru Sennin reveals his true intentions.
Chaozu’s friendship ultimately helps Ten Shin Han return to the right path.
Film 03: Dragon Ball Z - The Ultimate Battle Around the Earth
Ten Shin Han and Chaozu visit the Son family. Soon after, they are informed about the situation. During the battle, Rezun attacks Chaozu and defeats him with little effort.
To counter Tullece, Chaozu returns to try and slow him down.
Film 14: Dragon Ball Z - Battle of Gods
Chaozu is invited to Bulma's birthday, where he watches the various events unfold.
Techniques
Buku Jutsu: Through mastery of his Ki, Chaozu is able to fly.
Kikoha: With mastery of his Ki, Chaozu can launch energy blasts.
Dodompa: To use this technique, the user places their index finger in front of them, concentrates and charges their energy to create a sphere of energy at the tip of their finger, which is yellow-orange in color. This energy sphere is then launched as a powerful ray that inflicts significant damage.
Super Dodompa: A more powerful version of the Dodompa, further increasing the intensity and destructive capability of the attack.
