Aki Hayakawa was a public security devil hunter, working in Makima's special team. He had contracts with the Curse Devil and the Future Devil, and a former contract with the Fox Devil. He was killed and possessed by 20% of the Gun Devil, becoming the host of the Gun Fiend.
He was a deuteragonist of the Public Safety Saga.

Apparence
Human form
Aki Hayakawa was a handsome young man with medium-length black hair and blue eyes. He usually wore his hair in a bun style. He often wore the Public Safety Devil Hunter suit and tie. He also wore earrings and usually carried his sword on his back.
Demon form
After the Gun Devil took control of his body, he became the Gun Fiend. His hair was loose with his eyes and forehead covered in dark veins. The barrel and slide of an M1911 was seen protruding from his face between his eyes with the hammer of the gun protruding from the back of his head, Aki's left forearm was replaced with an M16A1.

Personality
Aki generally seems to be a very stoic person. He acts mature and sometimes rough to the point of being rude when he is with his fellow Devil Hunters, but he is actually quite gentle. He tends to attach easily to others and hates to see people get hurt, especially his close friends. Unlike many of his associates, he is described by Himeno as a "normal person", in that he still mourns those who are lost and has not become jaded enough to shut down his feelings. Despite this, he is very determined and his main motivation for killing the Gun Devil is revenge for his family. However, he is quite willing to put his own life on the line to save others despite his own fear of death and even at the risk of his ultimate goal.
He doesn't like people who don't take their job as Devil Hunters seriously or who fight for a superficial and material goal like money or, in Denji's case, to be able to touch breasts, being this the main reason why he and Denji didn't get along in the first place. Aki is also ruthless, stating that he always makes sure that the demons he kills suffer in order to give them a slow and painful death. He can become intimidating with those he still doesn't trust enough, as when he threatened Denji that if he betrayed them or sided with other demons, he would kill him without hesitation.
His air of cold detachment is a facade, and he has been seen crying over the deaths of comrades such as Himeno, and he has grown to care enough about Denji and Power to try to give up his goal of revenge to keep them safe.
Aki is also capable of being afraid of losing those he cares deeply about. He told Kishibe that the reason he wanted to leave the mission to kill the Gun Devil is because the future he saw with the power of the Future Devil, with Denji and Power suffering a painful and terrible death, and he was afraid of that future. .
At the beginning, we see Aki despise demons in the same way, not caring if they are hybrids, demons or if they are evil by nature, for him all demons are the same. He sees them as mere tools that they can replace at any time. However, during the course of the story, Aki slowly begins to bond with some of his partners, the best example (besides Denji and Power) is his relationship with the Devil Angel.

Denji
Aki and Denji initially dislike each other, their first mission ending in a physical and verbal altercation, in which Aki insults and punches Denji, only for Denji to knee him in the crotch and kick him while he is down. He thinks Denji is a ninny, a bully, vulgar and too thoughtless to continue in a dangerous line of work. Despite the fight, they continue to work together at Makima's request. Moreover, at Makima's request, Aki allows Denji to move in with him and takes care of him. After fighting side by side and living in the same house, Aki starts to consider Denji as a close friend, although he still finds him obnoxious sometimes. He even goes so far as to ask the fourth division to be exempted from fighting the Gun Devil in order to protect Denji and Power. When Aki was fighting Denji as Gun Fiend,
Power
Aki and Power also have a less than positive relationship at first, but perhaps not as much as with Denji. Aki doesn't like Power's vulgar and ungrateful attitude and finds it extremely obnoxious. He also takes Power when Makima asks, and gradually the two warm up to each other. Although he seems embarrassed and annoyed by Power's constant escapades, he also considers her a friend. Protecting Power is another reason why he wanted the fourth division to withdraw from the fight against the Gun Devil.
Himeno
Aki has known Himeno since he joined public security and she was his first work partner. She was the one who pushed him to smoke and she also tried to get him to quit his job in order to ensure his safety. She had a crush on him, and it was implied that she had kissed him when he was a new recruit. Although it seems that Aki did not return her feelings, he considered her a dear friend and cried over her death.
Makima
Aki has a crush on Makima and seems to trust her deeply, although this may be the result of Makima's control powers. This would explain why Aki can't remember why she likes him. Makima has complete disregard for Aki's feelings and was not interested in him beyond using him as a tool. She often dumped her responsibility on him, like making him take Power and Denji without asking first and manipulating him when he protested.

As a demon hunter, Aki works alongside the police to defeat demons. Aki is well known to the police and they have great respect for him because of his position as a demon hunter and for being one of their best members. Aki says that he usually goes out drinking with many officers and even knows stories about their private lives, which means that he is on good terms with them.

Physical prowess
- Improved reflexes: Aki has superhuman reflexes, being able to keep up with Katana Man and Devils. After entering into a contract with the Future Devil, Aki's reaction time was further improved. Thanks to his precognition, Aki was able to dodge Reze's explosions at close range and block Quanxi's attacks.
- Improved durability: Aki is quite resilient. He managed to survive being stabbed by Kobeni, only needing Power's help to close the wound and not even having to go to the hospital afterwards. During his fight with Katana Man , Aki was kicked into a wall with enough force to crack it and was then cut in the chest. He also survived being choked by the ghost devil and even crushed by the force of the dark devil to the point that blood began to come out of his mouth, but he lost consciousness in the process.
Devil's Contracts
- Curse Devil Contract: Aki has a contract with the Curse Devil that grants him a nail-shaped sword. For the contract to work properly, Aki must point the nail anywhere on his target's body; then by saying the word "fire", the hand of the cursed devil will appear and graze the back end of the nail to inflict damage. By stabbing his enemy three times with the nail, Aki can summon the cursed devil to grab the enemy and inflict massive damage, potentially killing him in the process. To use this, Aki's life would be shortened considerably.
- Fox Devil Contract: Aki Hayakawa had a contract with Fox Devil. In exchange for feeding him a part of his body, Aki could enlist his power in battle. In exchange for feeding him a part of his body, Aki could use his power in battle by raising his hand and saying the word "Kon", causing the Fox Devil's head to appear to instantly bite the target's body, swallowing it whole or tearing it apart. Aki lost the ability to summon it after using the Fox Devil recklessly against the Katana Man.
- Future Devil Contract: After losing the Fox Devil's favor, Aki was taken to the Future Devil who is being held captive by Public Safety, and he managed to get a contract to use his abilities in exchange for letting the Future Devil live in his right eye.
- Precognition: Aki has the ability to see a few seconds into the future. He uses it to predict his opponent's impending attacks and plan accordingly.
- Summoning: Due to his contract, Aki can summon Future Devil by calling him. While the devil says that Aki must say "The Future Rules" to summon him, this is not an actual requirement.
- Control Devil Contract: Aki made a contract with the Control Devil, in exchange for his whole being, he got his power, but since at that time he was completely under his control, he was unable to use it.

- Swordsmanship : Aki is a skilled swordsman, wielding a sword as his main weapon when fighting demons. Using a special sword, made by the devil angel, Aki can wound and kill normally intangible beings, such as ghosts. He is skilled enough to defeat many zombies and even track physically superior opponents, such as hybrids, with his devil contracts.
- Hand-to-hand combat: As a Devil Hunter, Aki has been trained in hand-to-hand combat. He has shown decent boxing skills, being able to easily defeat a boxer much more muscular than himself.
- Cooking: Aki has demonstrated decent cooking skills, usually being responsible for Denji and Power's meals.
- Driving: Aki can drive and has been seen driving vehicles, such as cars.

- Strong Will: Unlike most Devil Hunters, Aki, throughout the story, has never given up on his goal of killing the Gun Devil. This obsession made him willing to pay any price to achieve his goals, whether it was working with demons or sacrificing most of his life. Even after giving up his dream of killing the Gun Devil to protect his friends, he was still more than willing to make a deal to protect them. He also has great control over his emotions, being able to suppress his fear to prevent detection by the Ghost Devil, who can only see by feeling people's fear.
