Momo Ayase is the main female protagonist of the Dandadan manga series.
After befriending an occult-obsessed classmate named Ken Takakura—whom she nicknames “Okarun”—she awakens her psychic powers, while he loses his testicle after being cursed by Turbo Granny. Momo agrees to help him retrieve what he lost and face the many paranormal obstacles along the way.
Following the quest for the second testicle, Momo is accidentally shrunk to a tiny size after eating food from the Fairy Tale Map Dimension, presenting the group with a new problem: finding a way to restore her original size.

Appearance
Momo is a teenage girl of average height, with medium-length chestnut hair that mostly frames the right side of her face, and crimson-brown eyes. Okarun and several other male characters find her very attractive.
Though she is seen wearing various outfits throughout the series, her most common attire is her school uniform: a white undershirt beneath a light pink long-sleeved sweater adorned with a large red bow, a pleated navy blue skirt, loose white socks, and brown loafers. Her overall look matches the kogal style often worn by gyarus. She also wears green circular earrings and a black choker necklace featuring a matching green circular ornament. This accessory is a staple she always wears to complement her outfits.
Personality
The aggressive side of Momo
Momo comes across as a bold, confident, and fierce young woman who rarely feels intimidated. She has a pragmatic personality and often loses her temper when angered especially when offended or faced with her friends’ antics. She tends to lash out violently and comically at the person who provoked her. However, if she realizes she’s gone too far, she often shows remorse. She is also quick to throw insults, as seen in her occasional arguments with Aira.

The compassion of Momo
At the same time, Momo is kind, friendly, and cheerful with others. Her genuine compassion and empathy make her the kind of person who cannot ignore wrongdoing or turn away from someone in trouble—Okarun being a perfect example. Although she didn’t know him well at the time, Momo chose to step in and protect Okarun from bullies and was willing to help him break the Turbo Granny’s curse, even though he didn’t want to involve her. She saw no reason not to befriend him after their sudden bet and its consequences. When it comes to her friends and family, Momo’s rage is directed at anyone who harms or insults them. After learning how Aira had intentionally antagonized Okarun when they first met, Momo retaliated by using her powers to drop a basin on Aira’s head while making a sarcastic comment. Unlike her grandmother, Momo doesn’t hesitate to ask for help from friends and allies. However, she can lose trust in people who are extremely dishonest with her. Momo is also capable of empathizing with her enemies if she learns they have redeeming traits or a tragic past that shaped who they are.
The confidence of Momo
Thanks to her bold attitude, Momo is fearless and determined no matter the circumstances. Even when outnumbered, she never hesitated to stand her ground—facing off alone against the Kito Family when they ganged up on her, and later arming herself with determination to fight Kur after he passed through the warped gate. Even when she was severely injured and drained of energy following her battle against Kur Imotako, Momo remained defiant as Serpos surrounded her, lying helpless on the ground yet daring them to try capturing her, confident she still had enough strength to unleash a Moe Moe Tri-Beam. Despite her bravery, certain events and people can still startle or scare her, though such instances are rare.
Momo is self-aware of her intelligence and has demonstrated it by using deduction skills to get herself and her friends out of tricky situations. Her allies also acknowledge her intellect—Okarun and Unji even calling her a genius. She takes pride in her accomplishments. Momo doesn’t hesitate to resort to manipulation to get what she wants—for instance, using a cutesy look to appear innocent in front of Okarun so he would enter the Turbo Granny’s tunnel before her, as a precaution against danger. She also tried to use the “exploit adult finances” tactic on Seiko by begging her grandmother to buy new uniforms for her, Okarun, and Aira. However, these tactics were ineffective due to their simplicity and because they were used on people who knew her well. She is also prone to acting impulsively if her friends' safety is at stake, once intending to jump into a magma pit to save Okarun after he fell in.
Momo’s admiration
Momo has a deep admiration for the actor Ken Takakura. She is a devoted fan—even obsessed to the point that she only dated her ex because he looked like the actor. Simply hearing his name or famous quotes flusters her. Upon discovering that a classmate obsessed with aliens shared the same name as her beloved actor, she refused to call Ken by his real name and decided to nickname him “Okarun” instead.
While she takes things seriously, Momo has a sense of humor and shows moments of childishness and playfulness—a trait she shares with her grandmother. She jokes around while reattaching Okarun’s testicle and gets overly excited about defeating Turbo Granny a second time. At times, she exhibits dramatic expressions to match her actions.
Like her grandmother, Momo is sensitive to compliments—she lights up with joy when praised. She also tends to feel flustered when others point out her strengths.
As a gyaru, Momo chooses to wear only clothing she feels comfortable in, stating that fashion is like battle gear to her. Before entering the Turbo Granny’s tunnel, she opted to switch out of Seiko’s spiritual medium outfit and into her own, even though the former offered protection against evil spirits.

Background
Momo moved in with her grandmother, Seiko Ayase, when she was young. At some point, she became friends with Jiji and also developed a crush on him. In public, Momo was forced by her grandmother to perform a daily ritual for good luck. Unfortunately, this led to harassment from the boys around her—including Jiji—much to her dismay. After being humiliated, Momo blamed her grandmother and doubted her ability to be a spiritual medium. However, she soon realized that what truly upset her about the bullying was that it targeted her grandmother more than herself. This revelation dispelled the resentment she previously held. Eventually, after developing a deep love for her grandmother and respect for her profession, Momo came to believe in spirits—even if she initially doubted their existence or her grandmother’s abilities.
