Hanami is an antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. He is an S-class scourge born of human fear of the forest and a spirit ally of Mahito, Jogo and Dagon. His wish is to eradicate humans from the Earth, so that the planet can once again return to harmony.

Appearance
Hanami is a large, all-white humanoid scourge with black lines running the length of its body. Its head is helmet-shaped, leaving its teeth visible, with branches instead of eyes and black lines zigzagging across its face. His left arm, covered with a white cloth, is completely black, while the fingers of his left hand are white, contrasting with the black fingers of his right hand. On his left shoulder, he sports a large flower. He is dressed in loose-fitting black pants, held together by a white belt.
Hanami is a spirit who cares about the planet, which humans have been abusing for thousands of years. He wishes to exterminate all humanity in order to save the Earth. Hanami believes in the ideals of Jogo and Dagon, wanting to replace humanity with the plagues because they believe they are the true humans.
However, Mahito encouraged Hanami to embrace his savagery as a scourge because he considered that his partner tended to act differently from a scourge; he believed that he curbed his desire to kill others and was too considerate in battle. During his battle with Aoi Todo and Yuji Itadori, Hanami learned to accept his instincts and began to enjoy the thrill of combat, enabling him to push himself beyond his limits.
Although he is a scourge and surely doesn't understand the principle of relationships and feelings, he has shown concern for his allies, as when Satoru Gojo was about to kill Jogo and went to save him.
Arc Naissance of the Matrix
In July 2018, Hanami accompanies Jogo and Dagon to meet Suguru Geto at a restaurant to discuss their goals. Hanami sits next to Dagon, while Jogo and Suguru discuss their plans. Suguru explains that, if they hope to create a new era for the plagues, they will have to join forces with Ryomen Sukuna and render Satoru Gojo unable to fight.
Later, Hanami and Suguru watch Jogo lose to Satoru. When he is about to be interrogated, Hanami intervenes and saves him. They then leave for Dagon territory, and Suguru says this defeat proves that they should avoid Satoru until the operation to seal him on October 31 in Shibuya.
Bow Tournament
Later, Hanami discusses with Suguru, Jogo and Mahito the plan on how they will obtain the Fingers of Ryomen Sukuna along with three other relics located at the exorcism school.
During the Twin High School Tournament, Hanami infiltrates the Tokyo school with Mahito, Juzo Kumiya and Haruta Shigemo. Hanami heads for the place where the students are fighting and meets Toge Inumaki. Hanami fights him until they meet Megumi Fushiguro and Noritoshi Kamo. Hanami tries to attack the three students, but Toge holds him back using an Incantation. Noritoshi and Megumi attack Hanami, but to no avail. Hanami then explains his reason for wanting to kill all humans, and the three students flee.
They then combine their techniques to restrain Hanami and manage to understand the scourge's weak point. When Toge's throat gives way, Hanami seizes the opportunity to injure Noritoshi, but Megumi saves him before Hanami can finish him off. Toge intervenes again and sends Hanami tumbling with an Incantation, but the scourge rises without a scratch.
Maki Zenin then suddenly appears and attacks Hanami, followed by Megumi who slices off his branches. Together, the two students then attack Hanami with cursed objects and the Jade Dog, Totality. However, the Scourge manages to plant a seed feeding on Megumi's occult energy and capture Maki. Suddenly, Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo appear and save them. Hanami then fights Yuji, who inflicts a Black Ray on him during the fight. After being wounded, Hanami heals himself and removes the cloth from his left arm, then continues his fight against Yuji and Aoi. During the fight, Hanami remembers Mahito telling him that he should enjoy his battles more. The scourge then manages to enjoy the thrill of his fight. Aoi, meanwhile, begins to use his spell, and he and Yuji manage to overwhelm Hanami with attacks. Hanami is cornered and decides to draw vital energy from nearby plants and prepares to attack, but stops when Satoru destroys the curtain around them. Hanami is then hit by Satoru's Violet spell and seriously injured. However, he manages to escape. Hanami is then helped by Mahito to leave the site.
Arc Shibuya drama
Before October 31, Hanami plays with Mahito and Dagon, while Suguru and Jogo discuss finalizing their plan to seal Satoru. Later, Hanami plays mahjong with Jogo, Mahito and Suguru, while the Master of Plagues explains how the Edge of Mercy works.
On October 31 in Shibuya, Hanami is with Jogo and Choso in the curtain surrounding the neighborhood. As Satoru arrives at their location, Hanami prepares to fight him with the others. Hanami starts blocking all the exits, but Satoru tells them it's not necessary, as he has no intention of escaping. The plagues then surround Satoru with civilians. Then Hanami and Jogo attack Satoru with the Territory Extender, but Satoru manages to fight them off. Satoru then takes off his blindfold and says he's going to shoot Hanami first, since the scourge managed to get away with it after facing him twice before.
As Satoru closes in on Hanami and Jogo, they attack Satoru. The exorcist manages to dodge their attacks and even manages to counter-attack. As Jogo moves away from the fight, Satoru pursues him. Hanami decides to attack Satoru with her spell, but Jogo advises against it. Unfortunately, Satoru quickly catches Hanami and rips off his branches. Choso manages to distract Satoru, allowing Jogo and Hanami to attack the exorcist. However, Hanami, now weakened, is crushed by Satoru's Infinity Power against the wall and ends up being exorcised.
Later, when Jogo is killed by Sukuna, Hanami meets Jogo with Dagon in the "afterlife". Hanami explains that they still have Mahito and will be reborn one day, but a little differently.
Hanami is an S-class scourge with an incredibly strong body, a spell that can materialize/control plants and the ability to hide his presence. He was able to take Satoru by surprise and momentarily take advantage of Yuji's vulnerability by using his field of flowers and a wooden monster to save Jogo and escape. Hanami was able to achieve this feat thanks to a combination of his tactical and evasive skills, as well as his ability to mask his presence. Satoru himself praises Hanami's ability to evade the Sixth Eye's great perception and even claims to find Hanami far more threatening than Jogo.
Hanami was able to break through the barriers of the exorcist school due to his unique nature, and was the cornerstone of his group's assault on the exorcist institute. The S-Class Scourge was able to take on six of the school's strongest exorcist apprentices, rendering the majority of them unable to fight after facing him. In addition, Hanami was able to survive Satoru's purple spell after reaching its limit by fighting Yuji and Aoi, although he was mortally wounded.
During his final battle with Satoru, Hanami was the strongest exorcist's main target due to their past confrontation. While Hanami was able to partially corner Satoru and was vital to his eventual sealing, he did not survive against the most powerful exorcist. He made a crucial mistake by switching between different types of spells that Satoru was able to exploit. Hanami's eye branches were his only weak point, and he was also very vulnerable. When the branches were completely removed from their orbits, Hanami's abilities plummeted, rendering him incapable of withstanding another Satoru assault.

One of Hanami's greatest features is its durability. His body is incredibly hard and resistant, capable of shattering Kasumi Miwa's sword on impact. He was also easily able to withstand Noritoshi's Reaping and Piercing Blood spells, despite the latter hitting the flail on the head. What's more, a slash from Megumi's cursed sword did Hanami no damage whatsoever. Even when sent waltzing through a forest by Maki with the cursed S-class Floating Cloud, Hanami received no damage.
After being hit at his weakest points by Maki and Megumi on several occasions, Hanami was always able to resist their attacks, recovering quickly from their assaults and finally overpowering them with ease. The most most students could hope to achieve was to block Hanami in time for more reinforcements to arrive. Only Yuji and Aoi were able to hurt Hanami enough to make him use all his power.
(It was noted by Gege Akutami himself that while Jogo possesses more occult energy and has an elemental advantage over Hanami, he could not have survived Yuji's Black Ray assault followed by a Floating Cloud strike wielded by Aoi as Hanami was able to do).
Hanami has a high degree of physical strength and can easily overpower and defeat a human exorcist in close combat. Once Hanami had finally closed the distance between himself and Noritoshi, it took only a few blows for Hanami to neutralize the apprentice exorcist. Defensively, Hanami was also able to hold back Nué as the giant familiar swooped down on him in addition to electrocuting him.
Hanami also proved fast enough to escape quickly with Jogo's head after a brief distraction from Satoru and Yuji. He was also able to pass right in front of Megumi and Noritoshi, catching them both unawares when Hanami was some distance away.
Satoru said that Hanami has a different presence from a normal spirit, although he is definitely a plague. What's more, he can move through plants and completely erase his presence, making Hanami difficult to pin down. Hanami is able to move underground using plants to quickly escape and break through magical barriers, avoiding the aforementioned exorcist's attacks on two occasions.
Due to his S-class scourge nature, Hanami can easily reinforce his body with occult energy to regenerate lost limbs. He can also instantly regenerate the weak points of his eye branches, but not if they are completely damaged and/or completely separated from his body.

Exorcism
Innate SpellHanami's spell enables him to grow and manipulate anything plant-like. The plants he generates are not real objects manipulated with occult energy, but things he completely materializes. He can make them appear and disappear in an instant. The possibilities of his spell are manifold:
- He can generate giant roots whose strength and speed increase the more he restricts their number. This is a large-scale spell.
- He can also create a ball of bark. These can strike once or twice before disappearing, and Hanami can also use them to float in the air.
- He can then create seeds which he drives directly into his targets. Occult energy is the preferred commodity of these seeds, so the more the seed's targets tap into their energy reserves, the more the plants will extend their roots into the body.
- There are also the flower fields that Hanami can generate. They serve to distract the scourge's enemies with the scent they give off.
Finally, there's his left arm, through which Hanami can draw vital energy from nearby plants and transform them into energy. However, this energy doesn't return directly to him, but goes into the floral arrangement adorning his left arm.
Other Techniques
Territory Extension, Ocean of Greenery (Ryōiki Tenkai: Dai Kōkai): This is a kind of materialization of vital space by means of occult energy, enabling a spell never to miss its target. To use his Territory Extension, Hanami uses his left arm to release a phenomenal concentration of occult energy. At present, we have no further information about Hanami's territory other than his name.
Territory Extension: By covering the user with a thin membrane of territory, Extension always neutralizes opposing spells. On the other hand, the user's blows are more likely to miss, and he cannot use Territory Extension at the same time as his innate spells.
