Choi Jong-In is a Korean S-rank hunter specialized in fire magic and the guild master of the Hunters Guild.

Appearance
Choi is a tall, slender young man with auburn hair styled in curtain bangs, parted to the left side of his right eye. He has a very friendly smile and often wears pinstripe suits. When using his powers, his eyes glow a bright magenta. During raids, he wears a golden-brown and white suit, a flowing red cape, and a set of eight rings.
In the revised timeline, Choi has barely aged and looks exactly like his former self. Wearing the iconic red cape of his old appearance, he dons an all-black suit and glasses.
Personality
Choi is a clever and friendly man who doesn't easily falter under pressure and is quick to understand situations. He is also a heavy smoker and is almost always seen outside smoking a cigarette.
In the revised timeline, Choi retains most of his personality, wondering why Su-Ho chose not to reveal himself after saving people, but he shows more concern for civilians.
Abilities
Choi is the most powerful mage-type hunter in Korea and is said to rival Baek Yoonho in strength. However, despite his status, he is noticeably weaker than his lieutenant, Cha Hae-In, and is probably one of the weakest S-ranks in the world.
- Fire Magic: Choi is Korea’s top fire magic user. It is said that he can destroy a large building with a single spell. His flames are powerful enough to wipe out entire hordes of ants and incinerate whole groups of earth giants. He can regulate the temperature, shape, control, and extinguish his flames, but cannot make others fireproof.
- Enhanced Durability: Choi has high physical durability despite being a mage-type, as shown by how he remained conscious and moved at an S-rank pace even after being slashed and seriously wounded by the Ant King.
- Enhanced Speed: Choi can move at high speeds, demonstrated when he narrowly dodged the God Statue’s thermal vision.
- Mana Reserve: Choi possesses a considerable mana pool, surpassing most characters, as shown by his ability to sustain heavy firepower throughout the Jeju Island raid. Among Mage and Healer-type hunters, only Black Heart Jinwoo, S-rank healer Min Byung-Gyu, and Nation-level hunters like Christopher Reed surpass his mana capacity.
- Flame Spears: Choi creates multiple fire spears and hurls them at his enemies.
- Fire Resistance: As a fire magic user, Choi appears unaffected by high temperatures and cannot be harmed by his own flames.
- Flame Prison: Choi can create a large web of flames for offensive and defensive purposes. According to him, it's strong enough to restrain B-rank magical creatures. It's unclear if the prison's size affects its power.
- Flame Dragon: Choi can shape a swirling mass of fire into a small dragon, which he can use to incinerate any nearby enemy.
- Flame Arrow: Choi transforms his flames into a bow and arrow, firing a flaming arrow at his target. Its power is enough to launch an enhanced Boss-level Magical Beast into the air.
- Summoning Magic: In the revised timeline, Jong-In made a contract with a nameless fire elemental that appears as a blazing blue bird.
Trivia
- In the Japanese version of the anime, Choi’s name is changed to Shin Mogami.
- Choi Jong-In is first mentioned in the very first chapter of the Solo Leveling webtoon during a conversation between Kim Sangshik and Park Beom-Shik.
- Choi appears much earlier in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok compared to his Light Novel counterpart.
- Choi is also not the founder of the Hunters Guild in the revised timeline, as he didn’t have Cha Hae-In and was recruited early on by Woo Jinchul. However, in the manhwa, he is one of the founders of the Hunters Guild.
- In the light novel, Choi did not contribute to the arrest of Lee Minsung.
