Antares was the King of Dragons and the Monarch of Destruction.
He was also the strongest and oldest of the nine Monarchs, as well as the final antagonist of Solo Leveling.

Appearance
Antares was a tall, handsome, and muscular middle-aged man with long red hair, a short red beard, glowing red eyes, and dark crimson claws. He wore a high-collared red-silver armor and a reddish-brown coat.
Personality
As the Monarch of Destruction, Antares took great pleasure in the devastation he caused with his powers. Due to his nearly unmatched strength, he usually behaved in a casual and confident manner, rarely losing his composure. Like the other Monarchs, he harbored a deep contempt for humanity and was unhesitant to commit genocide to lure out the Shadow Monarch.
However, despite his bloodthirsty nature, Antares had a sense of honor and was willing to negotiate with those who impressed him in battle. This was evident when he promised Jinwoo to withdraw his forces and spare humanity if he agreed to fight alongside him against the Rulers. Even after being killed by Jinwoo in two different timelines, Antares continued to acknowledge his strength. He was incredibly disappointed when he easily defeated Jinwoo’s son, Suho, decades later during their first encounter, lamenting Suho’s weakness and even stating at one point that the boy was unworthy of succeeding his father.
Despite his many flaws, Antares showed great care for his subordinates and was disgusted by those who used them for experimental purposes. He also seemed to believe in blood purity and held no respect for dragons of mixed origin.
Antares embodies the very essence of annihilation and domination. As the Monarch of Destruction, his entire identity revolves around conquest, devastation, and the eradication of opposition. His personality is cold, calculating, and fiercely arrogant.
Supreme Arrogance: Antares sees himself as the pinnacle of power, even among Monarchs. He considers most beings beneath him and rarely deems them worthy of attention. This arrogance is particularly evident in his interactions with Jinwoo, whom he initially regards as a mere nuisance, only to gradually recognize his true threat.
Strategic and Ruthless: Unlike a mindless brute, Antares is also intelligent and cunning. He uses deception, surprise attacks, and psychological manipulation to gain the upper hand. His decision to propose an alliance to Jinwoo—despite his pride—shows he is willing to set aside his ego for survival when absolutely necessary.
Hatred for Rulers: Antares harbors a deep hatred for the Rulers and views their interference as a personal affront. He blames them for upsetting the cosmic balance and relishes any opportunity to destroy their champions or influence.
Lack of Empathy: As a Monarch, he sees mortals as insignificant. Human lives are meaningless to him, mere obstacles to be wiped out. This detachment fuels his destructive nature and makes him one of the most terrifying beings in the series.
Unyielding Will: Even when cornered and facing death, Antares does not beg or grovel. He maintains a defiant stance, embodying destruction to his last breath. His final confrontation with Jinwoo reflects his unwavering pride and refusal to surrender, even in the face of overwhelming defeat.
History
Antares, the Monarch of Destruction and King of Dragons, once ruled the strongest army among all the Monarchs. He was a being created by the Absolute Being, alongside the other Monarchs and Rulers, to maintain the balance of the world. However, the Monarchs eventually rose up in rebellion and waged a devastating war against the Rulers to destroy the world the Absolute Being had created.
During this war, Antares played a central role, leading countless dragons into battle. After the death of the Absolute Being and the victory of the Monarchs, the Rulers regrouped and launched a counteroffensive. Antares and the other Monarchs were ultimately pushed back and banished to a distant dimension. However, they eventually returned to Earth through cracks in the dimensional barrier, seeking to finish the war once and for all by eliminating the Shadow Monarch and conquering humanity.
Unlike the other Monarchs, who sought to kill the Shadow Monarch to prevent his full awakening, Antares wished to recruit him to his side. He proposed an alliance to Sung Jinwoo, offering to withdraw his forces and spare humanity if Jinwoo joined him against the Rulers. But when Jinwoo refused, Antares revealed his true form and fought a brutal battle against him.
Antares was then summoned to Earth through a dimensional rift, thanks to the intervention of the Monarch of Frost and the Monarch of Plagues. With the help of his dragon army, he caused massive destruction in Canada, wiping out millions of humans within minutes.
He later appeared in front of Sung Jinwoo in the form of a man in a red suit and offered him an alliance: he would spare humanity if Jinwoo agreed to join the Monarchs in their war against the Rulers. Jinwoo refused.
Antares then revealed his true form—that of a colossal red dragon covered in black scales—and engaged in a terrifying battle against Jinwoo. Despite his immense power, he was ultimately deceived by Jinwoo’s use of the Cup of Reincarnation, which allowed him to reset time and prepare for their final confrontation.
In their last battle, after a long and intense fight, Antares was ultimately killed by the Shadow Monarch. His death marked the end of the Monarchs' threat and paved the way for peace between the two cosmic factions.
Powers and Abilities
Antares was considered the most powerful Monarch, feared even by the other Monarchs. As the Monarch of Destruction, he embodied raw annihilation and unrivaled strength. His abilities made him one of the most dangerous beings in existence.
Spiritual Form
Even after his physical body was annihilated, Antares’ existence did not completely disappear. As a Monarch, his essence could persist in a spiritual form, similar to how Ashborn and the Rulers retained a presence beyond death.
Residual Presence: Antares’ soul lingered briefly after his defeat by Jinwoo, but unlike Ashborn whose will merged with Jinwoo’s Antares was completely erased, body and soul. His spiritual form did not resist or linger with influence, suggesting that his essence was fully destroyed.
Absence of Redemption: While other characters, such as Ashborn, retained a legacy or transmitted power, Antares’ spiritual presence was met with total obliteration. This reflected both his nature as the Monarch of Destruction and Jinwoo’s resolve to eliminate him completely.
Final Erasure: With Jinwoo traveling back in time and eliminating all Monarchs before they could manifest in the real world, Antares was erased from history. In this alternate timeline, not even his spiritual essence remained. He ceased to exist, and only Jinwoo remembered him a terrifying memory buried in a new, peaceful world.
Abilities
As the Monarch of Destruction, Antares was the strongest among his kind, rivaled only by Ashborn in raw power, and undoubtedly one of the most formidable beings in existence.
Immeasurable Strength: Antares possessed immense physical strength, reputed to surpass even that of the Shadow Monarch. This is evident in his ability to match Jinwoo in their first battle and ultimately defeat him completely.
Immeasurable Speed: Antares could move at nearly unmatched speeds. He was able to track Jinwoo's movements with ease and react in time to almost every attack launched against him.
Immense Durability: Antares had near-unmatched toughness and resistance to physical trauma. Most of Jinwoo’s attacks left him completely unharmed, forcing Jinwoo to rely on unconventional tactics to deal any significant damage.
Shapeshifting: Antares had the ability to alter his appearance at will.
Gate Creation: He could create dimensional gates, a common ability among Monarchs.
Telepathy: Antares was capable of communicating telepathically with his fellow Monarchs.
Dragon's Fear: Antares could unleash a roar imbued with mana from deep within his soul, sending those weaker than him into a state of despair and overwhelming panic.
Breath of Destruction: Antares could unleash torrents of fire with devastating force. This breath attack was powerful enough to instantly incinerate average S-Rank Hunters, effortlessly nullify most of Jinwoo’s attacks, and permanently destroy any Shadow Soldiers that got in its path.
Fire Magic: Antares was a master of fire magic. The flames he produced could cause massive explosions with just a few fiery jets from his fingers, which he could ignite further with a strike of his claws.
Invulnerability: His black dragon scales were almost indestructible. Even Jinwoo’s most powerful attacks barely pierced them, forcing the Shadow Monarch to rely on strategy rather than brute force.
Dragon Army Command: As King of Dragons, Antares commanded an enormous army of flying dragons, each strong enough to destroy hundreds of soldiers or wipe out a city on its own. These dragons were loyal and terrifying, spreading destruction wherever they flew.
Intimidation and Aura of Terror: Antares emitted a fearsome aura that paralyzed weaker beings and even shook experienced Hunters. His mere presence was enough to make ordinary people faint or lose their will to fight.
Tactical Intelligence: Despite his destructive nature, Antares was far from being a brute. He was cunning, capable of negotiating and manipulating his enemies. His offer to Jinwoo was not just a trap—it was a calculated move to avoid unnecessary conflict and ensure the Monarchs’ victory.
Spiritual Body Manifestation: Antares could assume the form of a colossal red dragon or a humanoid dragon hybrid. In his hybrid form, his eyes turned serpentine, his armor took on a more reptilian design, and his head was mostly covered by a white helmet adorned with four brown dragon horns, leaving only his face and hair visible.
